    Buhari condoles with Buratai over father’s death

    President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the Buratai family over the death of Alhaji Yusuf Buratai, father of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai.

    Buhari’s condolence message is contained in a statement issued by Mr Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, in Abuja on Friday.

    The statement said Buhari joined the members of the family in mourning the ex-serviceman and veteran of World War II.

    According to the President, Buratai’s service to Nigeria will always be appreciated and remembered.

    He further noted that “Buratai’s years of service to the nation epitomised by courage, skill, determination and devotion has been rightly bequeathed to his son, who is diligently serving the country’’.

    The president prayed that the almighty Allah would comfort all who mourned the late patriot and grant his soul eternal rest.

    The death of Buratai, who joined the West African Army in 1942, was announced by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Sani Kukasheka.

    Kukasheka in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday said Yusuf Buratai, the father of the COAS, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, died Friday morning in Maiduguri.

    Nigerian Army embarks on road project in Sambisa forest

    The Nigerian Army on Wednesday said it had embarked on a road construction project in Sambisa Forest as part of the ongoing clearance operation to dislodge remnants of Boko Haram insurgents.

    The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Sani Kukasheka, made this disclosure in a statement issued in Maiduguri.

    Kukasheka said that the army had begun construction of access roads to open up the forest and link adjourning communities.

    He listed the projects as Gwoza-Yamtake-Bita-Tokumbere-Sambisa and Gwoza-Yamtake-Bita roads.

    “In its efforts to make Sambisa forest habitable and also a training ground, the Nigerian Army is following up the ongoing clearance operations with road constructions into the main heartland of the forest and adjoining communities.

    “Already, work has commenced in earnest on Gwoza-Yamteke-Bitta road, as well as the reconstruction of the road from Gwoza-Yamteke-Bitta-Tokumbere, leading into Tokum forest”.

    The military authorities had set up a military training facility in Sambisa Forest after dislodging the insurgents’ tactical ground at Camp Zero.

    Also, the Borno Government on Monday restricted vehicular movement on three major roads in the state, to prevent fleeing insurgents escaping military offensive from infiltrating into the communities.

    Army warn against harbouring fleeing Boko Haram insurgents

    The Nigerian Army on Wednesday warned against providing sanctuary to fleeing Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East.

    The army also called on the people to report suspicious persons in their communities to security agencies nearest to them.

    Brig.-Gen. Sani Kukasheka, the Director, Army Public Relations, gave the warning in a statement issued in Maiduguri.

    Kukasheka said intelligence reports indicated that the insurgents were taking refuge in dry wells and other hideouts to avoid the ongoing military offensive against them.

    “This is to warn residents in the North-East not to harbour the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists who are trying to flee from their waterloo.

    “Credible intelligence revealed that several of the insurgents have resorted to taking refuge in dry wells and other hideouts in some communities along their escape routes from the Sambisa Forest in order to evade the sustained bombardments from air and ground troops of Operation Lafiya Dole.

    “Any unpatriotic and unscrupulous persons especially in the North Eastern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe found providing safe sanctuaries or any assistance to the criminals will be treated as accomplices and given same treatment as  terrorists,” he said.

    The director appealed to the people to cooperate with the military by reporting any fleeing terrorists immediately to the nearest security agency or call the Nigerian Army Information Call Centre Number 193.

    Army kills Three insurgents in Borno

    The Nigerian Army on Tuesday said its troops had killed three Boko Haram insurgents in Sabsawa axis of Sambisa forest area of Operation.

    Brig. Gen. Sani Kukasheka, the Director, Army Public Relations, made the disclosure in a statement issued in Maiduguri.

    Kukasheka said that the troops killed the insurgents in an ambush on Monday at Sabsawa while trying to cross into Tangos area.

    He further disclosed that the troops recovered an AK-47 rifle and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from the insurgents.

    “Troops of 202 Battalion, Sector 1, Operation LAFIYA DOLE at the early hours of Monday Dec.4, sprang an ambush on unsuspecting Boko Haram terrorists along Sabsawa axis.

    “During the encounter, the troops neutralised 3 Boko Haram terrorists trying to cross between Tangos.

    ‘’In addition, the troops recovered AK-47 rifles and Improvised Explosives making devices from the terrorists,“he said.

    Army kill three Boko Haram insurgents, recover arms in Borno

    The Nigerian Army on Saturday said its troops killed three Boko Haram insurgents at Dure village in Gwoza local government area of Borno.

    Director Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Sani Kukasheka, who disclosed this in a statement in Maiduguri, said this was part of efforts by the armed forces to degrade the remnants of the insurgents.

    Kukasheka said that the troops engaged the terrorists in their hideouts at Jango, Nduma, Gobara, Bala Ibrahim, Fulani Rogo, Takwala villages and adjourning communities.

    He explained that the troops also captured one Boko Haram fighter while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.

    Kukasheka added that they recovered four rifles, charged magazines and a pair of military camouflage uniform from the terrorists.

    The Army spokesman disclosed that the captured terrorist would be investigated before being transferred to relevant agencies.

    “Troops of 121 Battalion of 26 Task Force Brigade of Operation LAFIYA DOLE in furtherance of the ongoing clearance operations on Friday, 27th October, 2017; displayed gallantry as a potent fighting force by routing out Boko Haram terrorists who were taking refuge in the surroundings of Dure, Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State.

    “The troops engaged the terrorists and smoked them out of their hideouts at Jango, Nduma, Gobara, Bala Ibrahim, Fulani Rogo and Takwala villages and environs in Gwoza Local Government Area.

    “During the operations, the troops neutralized 3 Boko Haram terrorists and captured one other terrorist alive. While several terrorists were believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds.

    “The troops also recovered one Fabrique Nationals (FN) rifle, one G3 rifle, charged magazines and a pair of military camouflage uniform suspected to be used by the terrorists to disguise as military personnel.

    “Unfortunately one soldier sustained injury during the operation. He has since been evacuated to the unit’s Regimental Aid Post, for more medical attention”.

    Army killed three Boko Haram insurgents in Borno

    The Nigerian Army on Thursday said its troops had killed three Boko Haram insurgents conveying logistic into Sambisa Forest.

    Brig-Gen. Sani Kukasheka, the Director Army Public Relations, said in a statement issued in Maiduguri.

    Kukasheka said that the troops ambushed a group of insurgents at Lumda village few kilometres away from Maiduguri while trying to cross into Sambisa Forest.

    He said that the troops killed three insurgents while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

    Kukasheka added that the troops recovered five bicycles, mechanic kits, sacks and mosquito nets.

    “Troops of 112 Task Force Battalion of 22 Brigade deployed in Dikes on Operation LAFIYA DOLE in furtherance of the ongoing clearance operation at the early hours of Thursday, 26th October, 2017, successfully ambushed a group of Boko Haram terrorists.

    “The terrorists were attempting to cross into Sambisa Forest through Lumda village, some few kilometres away from Maiduguri – Dikwa Road in Borno State.

    “The troops sprung the ambush on the unsuspecting terrorist and neutralized three of them while several others escaped with gunshot wounds. They also recovered 5 bicycles, mechanic tools, sacks containing various items and some mosquito nets from the scene of the attack”.

    Kukasheka called on the people to remain vigilant and report suspicious movement of persons in their communities.

    Troops kill 11 Boko Haram insurgents, destroy IED factory in Borno

    The Nigerian Army on Wednesday said its troops had killed 11 Boko Haram insurgents and destroyed a bomb making factory at Ngala Local Government Area of Borno.

    Brig.-Gen. Sani Kukasheka, the Director, Army Public Rations said this in a statement in Maiduguri.

    Kukasheka said that the troops, in joint operations with the Air Force and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), on Tuesday attacked insurgents’ hideouts at Mogole, Ngaiwa, Tongule, and Warsele villages of Ngala Local Government Area of the state.

    He disclosed that the troops destroyed the insurgents’ logistics base and a workshop at Ngaiwa village and an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) making factory at Tongul.

    The director further said 85 persons were rescued from the insurgents in the villages.

    Kukasheka said that the troops also recovered a gun truck; four suicide bomb vests, various IED making materials, three Dane guns.

    Others, he said were: one Barretta pistol, 22 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 5 motorcycles, 13 bicycles and a wheelbarrow.

    “Tuesday Oct. 24 will go down as one of the best in the outing of troops of 3 Battalion, 22 Brigade Nigerian Army of Operation LAFIYA DOLE in their daily clearance of the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists, especially in northern parts of Borno.

    “The unit in conjunction with gallant 22 Mobile Strike Team accompanied by Civilian JTF, based on credible information carried out offensive operations at suspected Boko Haram terrorists hide outs at Mogola,” he said.

    Other areas where the soldiers carried out operations he said were Ngaiwa, Tongule and Warsele villages in Ngala Local Government Area of the state.

    “The operation which was supported by the Nigerian Air Force was very successful in achieving its objectives”.
