  • Eyube: Buhari deserves second term

    Eyube: Buhari deserves second term

Hon. Kennedy Raymond Eyube is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State. In this interview with Polycarp Orosevwotu, he speaks on the achievements of the Buhari administration in the last two and half years.

Many of people see the recent endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari for second term as pure sycophancy and unmerited call. What is your take on it?

I disagree with you, everybody or governors are the gis entitle to his or her opinion and judgment. Where other may have said the man had not performed, others may be looking at it from another angle, and that is the case of these governors whom you said have endorsed Buhari and more governors will endorse Buhari.

There was nothing sycophancy in anybody oendorsing anybody of his or her choice, it all depends on your personal perception about the person and things you have seen in the person, nothing wrong as the president merits the endorsement and am also on my own capacity mobilising for his re-election in my federal constituency of Okpe, Uvwie and Sapele local governments in Delta State.

There is no doubt about Buhari contesting for second term and winning because he has done very well, more so, with this fight against corruption which revealed a lot criminals we have in this country, both in service and politicians, l commend him and l want him to come back again and finish what he has started.

To clean up Nigeria will take almost a decade, considering how the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has mis managed the country. Let us join hands together and support him for second term.

Was that the reason the party members are calling to come back for second term when he has not indicated interest to run 2019, or you say your party satisfied with his administration?

That he has not officially announced his re-election does not mean he will not contest. He has started so well and we need to give him time to put the country in a right direction and shape. Apart from that Buhari has the constitutional right to run for second since he has performed.

At whatever time he made up his mind to run Nigerians are there to give him maximum support because he has proved his worth as a president for the few years he has been there and l have no fear of his second tenure.

I can confidently tell you that majority of Nigerians, about 80% percent of Nigerians would be very happy to vote for Buhari and APC come February 2019.

Apart from the seven APC governors that have thrown their weight behind the president, and majority of Nigerians have already endorsed Buhari for second term and by May 29 this year Buhari will be 3 years in office.

It is quite unfortunate that what most people criticizing Buhari have failed to understand is the fact that Buhari’s eight years in office would not be enough to solve the entire problems Nigerians.

You cannot build a house over nothing, there must be a solid foundation on which a good house will be built, Nigeria as a nation and its millions of citizens are suffering today because of bad foundation laid for this country in the past.

Imagine, how Buhari’s administration is working tirelessly to boost power generation and distribution in the country, with the recently approved and awarded $5.792 billion dollars (about N1.140trillion) for the construction of the 3,050 megawatts Mambilla Hydro-Power project at Gembu in Taraba.

This should have been done in the past, but was not done for a major oil and gas producing country like Nigeria that has a population of over 180 millions people.

What does this mean to you, some of the things Buhari is tackling now or trying to achieve such as railway to connect the six geopolitical zones, reviving of our sea ports, diversification of our economy to guarantee food security and approval of modular refineries to ensure availability of petroleum product.

And anyone blaming President Buhari for the herdsmen and farmers clash is mischievous.

There is strong believe that the APC may win in the North and South/West zones but not in the Seouthsouth in the 2019 general elections, do you subscribe to it?

It’s a known fact that APC and President Buhari will win as usual both in the North, and South west zones, but this time a big win in the South and South East zones. The likes of Rotimi Ameachi, Timipre Sylva, Adams Oshiomohle, Umana Umana, Orji Uzor Kalu, Chris Ngige, Rochas Okorocha, Ogbonaya Onu, O’tega Emerhor, Ibe Kachikwu just to mention a few, these are APC gladiators that would deliver significant votes, I mean 80% votes from South South and South East zones for APC and Buhari in 2019, and when you add that to the results from North and South west zones, you already know the outcome of the February 2019 presidential election, that is Buhari till 2023.

Buhari’s integrity will earn him second term in 2019. His integrity is a major factor working for him and APC. Evidently, under Buhari the world now respects Nigeria.

What is your take on the quick release of the election time table by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC?

The timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC is in order. It is an indication that the present INEC is undergoing a laudable transformation under the leadership of the amiable Chairman, Alhaji Mahmood Yakubu.

The commission has done what is right and I think Nigerians are commending INEC. It further shows that we are gradually getting our electioneering processes right.
