    SEEPCO re-affirms commitment to employee welfare, labour laws

    Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO) has restated its commitment to staff welfare. 

    It said it takes the alleged issues by PENGASSAN with utmost seriousness and responded immediately, displaying a commitment to resolve the issue and address any concerns by open, transparent, and constructive dialogue with the union.

    “As responsible corporate citizens, we adhere to federal laws and industry regulations. Our unwavering commitment to the welfare of employees, host communities, and stakeholders enables us to maintain high standards in labor relations, environmental sustainability, and corporate governance,” the firm explained in a statement. 

    It added: “Further into the context of specific allegations by PENGASSAN we would like to clarify that Sterling Oil (SEEPCO) abides by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Petroleum and natural gas senior staff association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), Industrial Act and Laws of the federal republic of Nigeria to its letter and spirit. 

    “This intent has enabled SEEPCO to become the fastest growing indigenous company in the Oil and Gas Industry and the Company will continue its contribution to Nigeria’s economic growth, creation of local jobs, and security in energy sector by investing in local content development, promoting sports as an inclusive part of employee skills acquisition programs, and community development initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life.

    “We categorically refute any claims that misrepresent our dedication to fostering a fair and supportive working environment. Over the years, SEEPCO has consistently engaged with relevant labor unions, including PENGASSAN, to ensure a harmonious and mutually beneficial relationship. 

    “We urge PENGASSAN and all relevant stakeholders to engage with us in good faith and through appropriate channels to address any concerns. We remain open to dialogue and will continue to operate with integrity, ensuring that all our activities align with the highest ethical and professional standards.”

    VCDF, SEEPCO, LDSVA empower 100 community women in Lagos

    The Vcare for Development Foundation (VCDF), in collaboration with Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Co. Ltd. (SEEPCO) and the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (LDSVA), has empowered 100 community women in Eti Osa, Lagos State.

    The VCDF said the empowerment which took place recently was to take the women through the transformative journey aimed at protecting them against sexual and domestic violence prevention, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship.

    According to the VCDF:  “Women as the pillars of the society are resilient and determined as they play essential roles in nurturing families and leading businesses.     SEEPCO celebrates with children with disabilities

    Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Co. Ltd (SEEPCO), in the spirit of the Yuletide, celebrated the season with children living with Down Syndrome at Module Cole Memorial School, Lagos.

    At the event with the theme: ‘Celebrating abilities’, SEEPCO said the celebration was aimed at boosting the emotional healthiness of children with Down Syndrome and bringing joy and enjoyment to their souls. 

    Dr. (Mrs) Abolarin Abimbola, Director – Child Guidance School, Counselling and Special Education, Lagos State Ministry of Education, said: “Every child we care for is unique and wonderful. We are passionate about helping the children with Down Syndrome live their lives to the fullest.”

    According to her, SEEPCO’s initiative “showcases that Down Syndrome children are like us. If given appropriate medical care, supportive family, and special educational services, those with Down Syndrome can lead full and healthy lives,” adding that what inspired her the most about them was how incredibly strong and determined they were.

    She said raising and understanding a child with Down Syndrome can bring immense happiness and fulfilment to parents, caregivers and the communities.

    Mrs Abimbola said the event was designed to celebrate, boost and support the children and to praise the mothers who had displayed their responsibility and sacrifices in raising children with special needs such as Down Syndrome with a token of appreciation and gratitude, and for the children who have overcome their challenges and succeeded in their objectives.

    The Principal, Modupe Cole Memorials, Lagos, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mrs. Abosede Oyeniran, said: “Children with Down Syndrome are the most loving souls. They have exceptional traits. Early intervention is critical for them, as it can help support their intellectual, physical, and social development. By providing appropriate support and resources for families of young individuals with Down Syndrome, we can help ensure that they have the ingredients they need to thrive and live fulfilling lives.’

    Caring for a child with special needs has many blessings.

    SEEPCO believes that every child with Down Syndrome should receive the rightful education, participate wholly in society, and develop their communication, confidence, and independence. The company wishes to continue encouraging them to have opportunities to prosper in the communities.

    Down syndrome is a genetic condition characterised by developmental delays and learning disability. Most of the time Down Syndrome occurs by chance. Children with Down Syndrome can greatly benefit from early treatment. Caring for these children requires comprehensive medical expertise and a compassionate, holistic approach.

    SEEPCO redefining education through chess in Lagos slums

    Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Co. Ltd (SEEPCO) in partnership with Chess in Slum Africa, has organised a ‘Chess Beyond Borders’ event for the children from slums, at Bon Voyage Hotel, Lagos.

    The initiative is aimed at ensuring that children from the marginalised part of the society have a shot at a sustainable future.

    Speaking at the event which took place yesterday, the Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Sola Aiyepeku, said the initiative would ultimately transform lives of the slum kids and may turn them into prodigies.

    He said the event was designed to enhance the child’s strategic and critical thinking, as well as mathematical skills of children by cultivating a passion for the game amongst children.

    The event gathered exceptional minds, future leaders, and chess stars from the slums. There were children from various backgrounds, cultures, and capabilities.

    Mr. Tokunbo Fagun, Chairman, Lagos State Chess Association said, “Education is the cornerstone of progress, and chess helps to ignite a spark of curiosity and intellectual growth in children.’’

    Fagun described Chess as the gymnasium of the mind. “It has no boundaries; it transcends language, age, and social status, unites and teaches us valuable life lessons, and creates lifelong friendships.”

    He said with this initiative, SEEPCO hopes to and is committed to empowering slum children with expertise that will shape their future, and train them to defeat any challenge that lies ahead. SEEPCO embarks on a journey that goes beyond the 64 squares of a chessboard, breaking barriers and building bridges towards a more comprehensive and impartial world.

    Chess in Slum, Africa believes every child deserves an equal opportunity in attaining better life and has adopted an innovative approach with the use of the game of chess to empower children from less privileged backgrounds to learn academic, educational and critical thinking skills that will help them secure a better tomorrow

    Dignitaries like Mr. Sola Aiyepeku, Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Tokunbo Fagun, Chairman, Lagos State Chess Association, Ms. Esther Hunkuten, Scholarship Manager, Chess in Slum, Africa, and Mr. Samuel Awobajo, Project Coordinator, Chess in Slum, Africa, graced the event.
