    The recognition comes as part of the city’s annual Citizen Awards Program, a longstanding initiative that celebrates individuals who have made significant contributions in various sectors, including sports, arts, community service, and civic leadership.

    Akanni, a distinguished cultural ambassador, publisher, entrepreneur, and advocate for African arts and heritage, and the Convener of the prestigious Pan-Afrikan Drum Festival in Canada, received the award for his remarkable work in promoting African culture and diaspora engagement through the arts.

    The award selection committee commended Prince Akanni’s unwavering dedication to cultural preservation and innovation.     Segun Akanni unveils 3rd edition Drum Festival in Canada

    Basking in the euphoria of previous editions, Prince Segun Akanni, through the Drum Online is set to facilitate the convergence of global cultural icons, enthusiasts, percussionists and business moguls for the 3rd edition of the Pan-Afrikan Drum Festival.

    Scheduled to be held in Canada in July 2025, Prince Akanni promises an unforgettable experience as African and Canadian cultures, through the rhythms, colors, and sounds that embody the unity of both critical cultures, will be showcased.

    He further said music,  dance, and culture enthusiasts can look forward to a rich array of exhilarating performances, workshops, Investment forum, as well as artistic displays that define the unique stories and traditions of the drum.

    In his words, Prince Akanni said the Pan Afrikan Drum Festival has grown to be a prestigious event in the global cultural calendar.

    Events being highlighted for the 2025 Pan Afrikan Drum Festival include an afternoon with Mayor Olivia Chow, Engaging with the Mayor of Toronto, Investment Forum, Youth Empowerment Forum and Skills training, historical tour of Canada and the Drum festival cum ball.

    Expected at the 2025 edition are renowned figures from various walks of life or fields, including political leaders, cultural icons, traditional custodians, drum enthusiasts, captains of industry, academics and social influencers from Europe, North America, Asia, the Caribbean, Africa, and beyond.
