We won’t allow cabal destroy our party – Kaduna APC

The Kaduna State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday said it will never allow cabal and mischief makers destroy the party for their selfish interest.

Addressing a news conference in Kaduna over what it described as continuous attacks on its party leaders by Senator Shehu Sani led group ‘APC AKIDA’, State acting Publicity Secretary, Salisu Tanko Wusono said, there is no room for egoism in the party, insisting that all efforts to reform Sani and his group have failed and they will soon be shown the way out.

Senator Shehu Sani (APC, Kaduna Central), 2015 APC guber aspirant, Hon. Isa Ashiru, former federal permanent secretary, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, among others had introduced a group known as APC AKIDA.

But, according to State APC spokesman who explained the faces of APC AKIDA members said: “We have tolerated these indisciplined group since 2014 because a party has a duty to train its members, but it appears that they are unwilling to be redeemed. They have remained hostile to the party and its structures, floating its rules and refusing to respect the democratic choices made by our members.”

APC added that, “It is pertinent at this stage to chronicle the serial disrespect that this group of misguided persons has shown for party structures. Not only that they have exhibited unwillingness to accept and respect the democratic choices that our members have made.

“For instance, Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed who was interim state chairman of the party following the merger that produced our, party has expressed his intention to emerge as the substantive chairman of the APC in the state. He did not achieve his wish. The party congress elected Architect Barnabas Yusuf Bala as chairman. From that point in 2014, Dr. Baba Ahmed has tried to elevate himself above the party as if the party without him would not be a party.

“He has invested his time in creating structures extraneous to the party, calling themselves elders, stakeholders or other names. He accompanied his disdain for the APC Kaduna state executive with a campaign against the emergence of General Muhammadu Buhari as the presidential candidate of the APC. He warned Buhari not to contest, but the members of the APC nationwide thought differently and elected General Buhari as the APC presidential candidate.

“His collaborators in the failed attempt to distract the APC in Kaduna state share with him a joint interest to reduce the APC into a vehicle to placate and massage their egos.”

On the 2015 APC gubernatorial aspirant, Hon. Isa Ashiru, State APC spokesman said, when he lost the governorship contest , he sorted  to be compensated with the senatorial ticket already won by Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, saying “that is the backward distributive tendency typical of the PDP, and this is not welcomed in the APC”.

On Senator Sani, he continued that, “The APC did not have much to say about Senator Shehu Sani, their partner in mischief and indiscipline. His opposition to President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Nasir El-Rufai and the APC is well known. He would oppose anything that is good, progress and enhance the wellbeing of our people. He is part of those that defiled our party at the National level and foisted a strange leadership on the senate,” Wusono said.

  • Fuel price increase, insensitive, punitive – Shehu Sani

Fuel price increase, insensitive, punitive – Shehu Sani

As the pump price of fuel increases to N145 per litre, the Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial district, Senator Shehu Sani has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to weigh in on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to rescind the decision.

Senator Sani who is the Chairman, Senate committee on Foreign and Domestic Debt opposed the increase in the pump price saying it is insensitive and punitive.

The Senator in a statement made available to newsmen in Kaduna Thursday, said the outrageous increase in the pump price is social provocation.

According to the statement, “The decision by the NNPC to increase the pump price of petroleum products is insensitive and punitive.

“Its most unfortunate that at a time when poor Nigerians are facing enormous economic hardships and are being asked to be more patient all the NNPC can do is to add to their suffering.

“It’s utterly irrational and illogical to further impoverish the people in order to achieve liberal self serving liberal economic aspirations. It’s all evidence that capitalist forces are holding the FG hostage and are blackmailing it to implement its inimical version of economic reforms. It makes no sense if everyone must perish in order to revamp the economy.

“Economic reforms are necessary but it must be done with a human face and human heart if it’s made in the interest of human beings. Outrageous increase in pump price is a social provocation.

“It’s possible to reform the oil sector without necessarily incinerating the country. We must not take the patience, the sacrifice and the good will of Nigerians for granted.

“I stand oppose to the increase in pump price and I call on PMB to weigh in on the NNPC to rescind the decision,” Senator Sani said.

  • Nuclear power not safe for Nigeria – Sen. Shehu Sani

Nuclear power not safe for Nigeria – Sen. Shehu Sani

Senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Senator Shehu Sani has Tuesday criticize attempt by the Federal Government to invest in Nuclear power in the country saying it is not safe for the nation.

Senator Sani who said 2 billion naira has been allocated for the construction of nuclear station in the 2016 budget, expressed fears that Nigeria as a country is not ready for the nuclear  power.

Speaking while flagging-off distribution of Solar Power energy and transformers to Hundred communities within the Kaduna Central Senatorial zone, Senator Sani said instead the Federal Government should invest in renewal solar energy rather than nuclear power which he said comes with a lot of dangers.

According to him, “Nuclear power station is not like what happens, when militants break pipelines and the next day it is repaired.

“If we are to install nuclear station, we should know that it comes with a lot of consequences.

“Nuclear station is not NNPC depot or pipeline, where you can damage it and fix it immediately and continue operations.

He however warned, “We have seen the danger of nuclear power station in Japan and Russia, so, we must be very careful.”

While emphasising that renewable energy is the future of energy, the lawmaker who is also, the Chairman Senate Committee on Foreign and Domestic Debts said Nigeria as a country must take the issue of power very seriously.

He further stated, ” If we are serious about developing our country and serious about diversifying our economy, we must take the issue of electricity very seriously, understanding that without electricity ,we cannot develop and move to  the promise land of our dream.

According to him, all industrialised nations of the world addressed the problem of electricity first, before other development issues.

He recalled that in the last sixteen years, successive governments have spent over 25 billion dollars in the name of power generation and distribution and it has not solved the problem.

He also stressed, “Even privatisation of electricity and distribution companies is still unable to address the problem . How long will our people continue to be in the dark?”

” Electricity distribution companies must live to the expectation of our people. If the essence of privatising generation and distribution is to improve service, it has not yielded results because, everyday, power distribution is moving from bad to worst.

“We have seen ECN, NEPA PHCN and now have the GENCOS AND DISCOS, yet our people are in the dark. For how should this continue?

While stressing that APC as the ruling party is committed to change, he said the elected leaders must be seen to be seriously committed to that ambition of change.

Meanwhile, he said as an elected leader, he took it  as a responsibility to facilitate the provision of electricity  to 100 communities within the seven local government areas in his senatorial constituency .

Explaining that it is not a project that is starting today, he said “In the last 8 months, we have been able successfully intervene in facilitating the provision of electricity to communities with the seven local government which I represent.

” Electricity is an indispensable source for socio-economic development of our society.  it an indispensible medium for the industrialisation of our country, we cannot build an economic and viable nation without providing power to our communities .”

The lawmaker also lamented, “It is unfortunate that over 5 decades after independence, Nigeria is still hovering within 2 to 3 thousand megawatts of electricity.

” A nation like South Africa has electricity power generation of over 40 thousand megawatts, a coutry like Pakistan has over 60 thousand megawatts, we cannot achieve our, industrial, economic ambition without electricity.

“Electricity is life, electricity is industry, electricity is commerce, electricity is humanity.

“We have seen over the past few months how our power fortune has plummeted to certain level, even up to zero. This is serious issue that we must take very serious.

“Our people have suffered enough and there is need for all hands to be on deck to get this issue of electricity right

“As a senator representing Kaduna central, I consider it a personal duty and responsibility to do everything possible to intervene in giving support for the provision of electricity to our people.”

He reiterated, “I have taken it upon myself to provide solar power to 100 communities within my constituency and I have started a pilot project by providing solar power for Saint Gerald’s Catholic Hospital, done over a month ago.”

He further said, “I  have a request of over 320 transformers and this is not something a senator can do, but promised  to attempt to do it .

“Our performance in office is not going to be scored by the social media, but the masses on ground, who bear the brunt of hardship.

” It is only the views of the masses that is most objective view about anybody in office.

“This project is not new as I have provided transformers for several communities, but what is new is that I am introducing solar renewable aspect of energy to our communities.  I am now taking a journey towards librating my people from the blackmail of power generation and supply.

” By bringing power to my people, I am empowering my people.”

However, he called on each elected representative of the people to tow the same line. Noting,” We would not be scored by what we say while in office, but what we do about education, agriculture, health, agriculture  and power generation .

“But without power there will be no health, education, agriculture and others, which are very strong instrument for empowering the people,” Senator Shehu Sani added.

  • Senator Sani’s suspension stands – Kaduna APC

Senator Sani’s suspension stands – Kaduna APC

All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State on Wednesday announced that the suspension of Senator representing Kaduna Central Zone, Shehu Sani from the APC for eleven months stands.

The Nation recalled that, the National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the party, Barrister Inuwa Abdulkadir had on Monday said the suspension of the senator was invalid. But the Kaduna State APC Executive has firmly dismissed the view.

Addressing a press conference in Kaduna, the spokesman of the APC, Hon. Salisu Tanko Wusono said, Barrister Abdulkadir acted without the consent of the national leadership and contrary to Section 21 of APC’s constitution.

Wusono added that the National Vice Chairman’s action was a deliberate attempt to ridicule the party for his personal interest. “The 11-month suspension slammed on Shehu Sani by the Kaduna State APC stands. Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir does not have the power to lift the suspension, and was acting on his own without any authorization by the national leadership of the party.

“What happened on Monday in Kaduna between Abdulkadir and the so-called APC chieftains was an abuse of his office in promoting the narrow agenda of people who have never been interested in the progress and success of the APC.”

Wusono also accused Abdulkadir of embarrassing the national leadership and loyal membership of the APC by his conduct.

“Can a Senator in Inuwa Abdulkadir’s Sokoto State abuse and denigrate party leadership without being disciplined? Take this from us, the national leadership of the APC, President Buhari and his Vice- President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and other leaders of the APC are aware of Shehu Sani’s anti-party activities and his involvement in plots to undermine the APC governments at the federal and state level.

“Shehu Sani is only wasting his time, running from pillar to post; he is like a crocodile in a dry river. Senator Shehu Sani stands suspended from participating in all APC activities in the state. Why is he not attending President Buhari and Vice President Osibanjo’s functions in Kaduna? Why is he not participating in our activities? Why is it that the PDP senator from Southern Kaduna attends critical state functions and not him? All the 11 APC lawmakers in House of Reps from the state are loyal to our leadership. All the 28 APC lawmakers in the Kaduna State House of Assembly are standing by the party and its government. Shehu Sani has chosen to be on his own, and the APC cannot abide his acute irresponsibility and his lack of any appreciation of disciplined political conduct and party discipline.

“There is difference between grandstanding and genuine representation. Kaduna Central, which elected him to the Senate, is one of the most populous senatorial districts in the country with a lot of complexity and dynamism. Rather than representing them well, he is consumed by his penchant for popularity shows, and irresponsible comments like someone who has reduced his duty into a perpetual ego trip.”

The spokesman added that Shehu Sani and his group are trying to use the back door to get back to the party having realized the failure of their attempts to destroy the party in the state.
