TCN increases transmission with transformer in Ajah

The Transmission Company of  Nigeria (TCN) on Wednesday said electricity transmission has been increased by additional 60MVA 132/33kV transformer in its Ajah substation.

In a statement issued by the General Manager (Public Affairs),TCN, Seun Olagunju the 60MVA 132/33kV power transformer which was successfully refurbished, installed and commissioned into service, has brought the transformer capacity at 132kV level to 220MVA.

According to the statement, the newly installed 60MVA 132/33kV power transformer replaced an old 60MVA transformer which failed in the substation last year.

Continuing, the statement disclosed that, TCN is also installing a 60MVA 132/33kV mobile power transformer in the same station to further increase transmission capacity in the area.

The nearly completed mobile transformer will upon completion, boost the transmission capacity in the substation to 280MW, which is above the distribution load requirement in the area.

The increased capacity of the Ajah transmission substation will translate to availability of additional power to be wheeled to distribution load centers supplying electricity to Ajah and environs.

TCN pledges to continue to work towards expanding and ensuring the nation’s grid stability.

National electricity grid improves – TCN

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), says the deployment of Free Governor Control mechanisms by Power Generation Companies (GenCos) in their power plants has resulted in an improved national grid stability and reliability.

The Interim Managing Director of the TCN, Mr Usman Mohammed, said this in a statement by Mrs Seun Olagunju, TCN’s General Manger, Public Affairs, in Abuja on Thursday.

Mohammed explained free governor mechanism as a device that automatically adjusts the rotational speed of the turbine and the power generation output.

“The free governor is an important controller in the power plant as it regulates the turbine speed and power movement in the grid frequency regulation.’’

Mohammed said the device, deployed on May 22 by the GenCos, was in compliance with the national grid code.

According to him, the grid system frequency had been within the operational limits of 49.50 – 50.50Hz, with the potential of drastically reducing incidences of high frequency and system collapse.

“This is a remarkable milestone achievement in the history of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry”, he said.

Mohammed commended the collaborative efforts and sense of patriotism displayed by the managements of GenCos, noting that the mechanism would also mitigate the negative effects of load under-utilisation.

He reassured the general public of TCN’s commitment and determination to work with other key stakeholders in the power sector to provide more quality electricity supply to the people.

    Seun Olagunju gets baby boy

These are happy times for the family of Seun Olagunju, the pretty newscaster on the NTA. In the Yoruba culture, the usual prayer during marital solemnisation is for the couple to be blessed with male and female children. But for Seun and her husband, Dr. Kayode Olagunju, only a part of the prayer had been answered on the three occasions that the couple had been blessed with female children. But a few days ago, the couple was blessed with a baby boy delivered at a hospital in the US.

For the Olagunjus, it has indeed been a season of celebrations. Only last month, Dr. Olagunju, Rivers State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), was promoted to the rank of Assistant Corps Marshal of the command. He had celebrated his golden age earlier in the year.

Dr Olagunju was twice the Sector Commander of the FRSC in Lagos and had also functioned in the same capacity in Kogi, Oyo and Adamawa states. He is an author of several books on road safety issues and also oversees the FRSC disciplinary court.
