    BON Awards: Femi Adebayo’s ‘Seven Doors’ dominates 17th edition

    The 17th edition of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, Lagos edition, was all fun and glamour as Femi Adebayo’s hit series, ‘Seven Doors,’ dazzled at the National Theatre today, where the industry’s finest were celebrated and the year’s top talents were crowned. 

    While the drama ‘Farmers Bride’ claimed the night’s top honors, the movie ‘Seven Doors’ emerged as the most prolific winner, sweeping four major technical categories.

    The most prestigious movie awards of the night went to ‘Farmers Bride’ in the Movie of the Year and Director of the Year categories.

    ‘Seven Doors,’ Femi Adebayo’s technical masterpiece proved to be the night’s biggest single film winner, taking home four highly coveted awards, including: Best Production Design, Best Special Effect, Best Series, and Best Cinematography.

    The film’s performance highlights the growing recognition of high-quality production and technical excellence in Nigerian cinema.

    Beyond the top prizes, the awards celebrated diverse aspects of filmmaking.

    The lead acting awards saw a clean sweep for the film ‘Black Out,’ with Gideon Okeke and Padita Agu taking home the Best Actor and Best Actress statuettes, respectively. 

    In the supporting roles, veteran actress Mercy Aigbe was recognised for her role in ‘My Mother Is a Witch,’ while Taye Ayimoro won for ‘Son of the Soil.’

    The memorable screen chemistry between Tobi Bakre and Folu Storms in ‘Red Cycle’ earned them the award for Best Kiss.

    ‘Abanisete’ secured the Best Indigenous award, underscoring the importance of cultural storytelling. The promising future of Nollywood was also highlighted with wins for Razaaq Adoti (Most Promising Actor for Son of the Soil) and Una Idoko (Most Promising Actress for I Am Anis).

    The 17th BON Awards also dished out special recognition awards for the deserving trio of Steve Ayorinde, Funke Akindele, and Dr Shaibu Husseini.

    My role in Seven Doors forced me to switch gears – Aliu Gafar

    Nollywood actor Aliu Gafar, popularly known as Esusu in the trending movie Seven Doors, has shared insights into his experience on set and what fans can expect from him in 2025.

    In a chat, Gafar described his journey in the industry and his aspirations for the future.

    Playing the role of Esusu was a thrilling yet challenging experience for Gafar.

    According to him, the character was a stark contrast to his personality, requiring him to delve into a tactical mindset and switch gears to bring the role to life.

    “As an actor, you should be ready to fit into any character you’re called upon to do,” he explained.

    Gafar credited the exceptional teamwork and professionalism of the cast and crew for making the process seamless.

    “Location became home as we were like family, ensuring everyone delivered to make this project a collective success,” he added.

    Reflecting on his time on set, Gafar highlighted the familial bond he shared with the Seven Doors team. “It’s a large family the cast, the crew, everybody was just amazing,” he said. “I learned a lot on the set of Seven Doors. In this industry, you must always be ready to learn more.”

    Gafar heaped praise on Femi Adebayo, the driving force behind the movie.

    “Femi is a legend in the industry,” Gafar remarked. “He knows how to carry everyone along to ensure collective success. He’s amazing, thrilling, and to crown it all, he is a maker of kings.”

    Gafar expressed his gratitude and excitement for the recognition Seven Doors has brought him. “This moment means so much to me, and I’ll forever cherish it,” he said. “I believe I can deliver perfectly and shake the world of filmmaking by God’s grace.”

    The actor also took a moment to appreciate his fans, acknowledging their support and influence on his career. “I can’t do it without you guys,” he said. “Your criticism and encouragement mean a lot to me. You guys are just too wonderful.”

    Gafar teased big plans for the coming year, hinting at projects that will break boundaries. “Something BIG… HUGE… something unusual,” he said with a laugh. “I have always been an advocate of phallocentric cross-cultural production, and that’s what you should expect.”

    As Gafar continues to rise in the industry, fans eagerly await his next moves, confident that his passion and talent will continue to leave an indelible mark on Nollywood.

    Netflix slates more releases after Femi Adebayo’s Seven Doors

    Following the release of Femi Adebayo’s blockbuster, ‘Seven Doors,’ Netflix is kicking off 2025 with a bang in January.

    According to a statement from the streaming platform, January will see a diverse mix of exciting titles across multiple genres.

    “Fans can look forward to new seasons of Young, Famous & African: Season 3, XO, Kitty: Season 2, The Upshaws: Part 6, and more. Get ready for a fun-filled start to 2025 with plenty of fresh content to enjoy. Start the year with a dose of romance as Love Is Blind: Germany premieres on January 3rd. This time, the experiment comes to Germany as local singles seek true love and a commitment that lasts a lifetime, all before meeting each other face-to-face,” the statement read in part.

    The year kicks off with a kaleidoscopic journey through David Bowie’s incredible life and musical career in this acclaimed — and authorized — documentary with Moonage Daydream on January 5.

    This is followed by The Upshaws on January 9 while Ticket to Paradise and Gone in the Night

    Take centre stage on January 12.
