  • Police arraign teenager for ‘sexually abusing’ girl, 7

    The police yesterday arraigned a 15-year-old boy, who allegedly sexually abused a seven-year-old girl, at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

    The suspect, who lives at 4, Obanta Street, GRA, Apapa, Lagos, is being charged with sexual abuse.

    Prosecutor Raphael Donny said the accused committed the offence on October 26 at 4pm at 4, Obanta Street, GRA, Apapa, Lagos.

    He alleged that the accused lured the girl into a garage outside their compound and abused her.

    The offence, the prosecutor said, is contrary to Section 28 of the Child Rights Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised)

    He pleaded not guilty.

    Chief Magistrate B. O. Osunsemi admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in the like sum.

    She ordered that the sureties must be employed with an evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have their addresses verified by the court.

    Osunsemi adjourned the case till December 19 for hearing.

     

  • Father remanded in prison for sexually abusing daughter for seven years in Kano

    FIFTY six year old Malam Ibrahim Mohammed who was accused of having canal knowledge of his biological daughter for seven years running has finally been remanded in prison custody by a Kano Magistrate Court. Chief Magistrate Fatima Adamu yesterday ordered that Ibrahim Mohammed should be kept in prison custody and adjourned the case to September 12 for further hearing. Ibrahim, a resident of Hausawa Quarters in Kano metropolis is standing trial on a two-count charge of procuring minor and incest.

    According to the prosecutor, Inspector Aluta Mijinyawa, the accused started abusing his own daughter sexually since began to sexually since 2010 when she was at the age of seven. He added that Ibrahim took advantage of the death of his wife who passed on in 2010 and started harassing the daughter sexually.

    Mijinyawa stated the minor is now 14 years old girl, “the girl is now grown up to know what is good and bad. She started resisting the father, who threatened to harm her.” He added that the girl reported the father at Metro Police Station in Kano. The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravened sections 275 and 390 of the penal code. However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

    Ogun: Police arrest Septuagenarian for raping dumb baby

    The Police in Ogun State have arrested a septuagenarian, Pa. Gabriel Akindele, for sexually abusing an  eight year-old girl, who is dumb and deaf.

    Akindele, who resides at the Owode-Ijako area of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government of the state, allegedly lured the girl to the toilet and raped her there.

    The Nation gathered that the victim’s mother discovered strange behaviour in her daughter and upon asking through a sign language, the little girl pointed her finger the private part.

    And when the mother examined the girl closely, she broke down in tears when it dawned on her that the innocent child had been violated and quickly reported the shocking find to the Police.

    The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the alleged crime, said the suspect – Pa Akindele was arrested Wednesday following complaint lodged  by the victim’s mother at the Sango Divisional Police Station.

    Oyeyemi added that the old man had confessed to committing the alleged crime.

    “Upon the report, the DPO Sango Ota, SP Akinsola Ogunwale detailed detectives to the scene and the randy old man was subsequently arrested. On interrogation, he opened up to the commission of the crime. It was discovered that he lured the girl to the toilet where he unlawfully had carnal knowledge of her,” Oyeyemi stated.

    According to Oyeyemi, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has also directed that the case be transferred to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for proper investigation.

  • Father arraigned for ‘sexually abusing’ three daughters

    For allegedly raping his three daughters, a 48-year-old man, Michael Ogbar, yesterday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    Chief Magistrate Tajudeen Elias refused to hear his plea and remanded him in Kirikiri prisons.

    Elias said the court had no jurisdiction over the case and therefore transferred the matter to Apapa Magistrates’ Court.

    The accused, who lives at Oke-Ogba Street, Badagry, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of defilement and rape.

    Prosecuting Sergeant Rafael Donny, told the court that the offence were committed between January and May at the accused residence.

    Donny said the accused raped his two daughters and defiled the third daughter.

    “The accused sexually abused his 24, 20 and 10 year-old daughters,” he said.

    The offences contravened sections 137 and 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011
