    Man jailed 14 years for sexually assaulting 10-year-old

    Justice Rahman Oshodi of an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court yesterday  sentenced a 50-year old man, Friday Agbolo to 14 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in Ikorodu.

    The incident was said to have happened at  No. 10 Taiwo Olumoko Street, Ikorodu, Lagos in 2022.

    Justice Oshodi sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to an amended one count charge bordering on sexual assault.

    Agbolo was first arraigned before the court on September 4, 2022 on charges bordering on sexual assault of a child.

    According to the prosecutor, Bukola Okeowo, the convict sexually assaulted the girl twice on separate Saturdays.

    Okeowo told the court that the first incident occurred when the victim had just finished washing clothes and was resting alone in her apartment.

    She said Agbolo forcefully entered their home, covered her mouth, and penetrated her, threatening to kill her and her family if she disclosed the assault.

    She said the victim remained silent out of fear.

    The prosecutor said the second assault happened on another Saturday while the victim was spreading clothes.

    “Agbolo again held her from behind, covered her mouth, and forced penetration, causing the victim to bleed.”

    “ Following this, the victim confided in her sister, who reported the matter to police on September 4, 2022,” adding that the mother was informed later due to a health condition.

    Delivering judgment in the matter yesterday, Justice Oshodi held that the prosecution has proved the charge against the convict convincingly and sentenced him to 14 years imprisonment.

    He ordered that the name of the convict be registered the Lagos State register for sexual offenders

    67-year-old man arrested for sexually assaulting teenagers

    Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested a 67-year-old man, Mahmud Adamu, for allegedly assaulting teenage girls.

    The man, a resident of Sabon Layi in Ganye town of Ganye Local Government, has confessed to a habit of ‘fingering’ young girls, according to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Suleiman Nguroje.

    Nguroje said the suspect has owned up to sexually assaulting three teenagers on separate occasions in his area within last year.

    He quoted the suspect as recounting how, to satisfy his sexual craving, he usually caressed the girls before inserting his fingers in their private parts.

    The man said he started the act in 2023 whenever his wife travelled, according to the PPRO.

    Nguroje said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Babatola Afolabi, has in the light of the development advised parents to be vigilant with people who demonstrate friendship with their children.

    He said the suspect would be prosecuted according to the dictates of the law.

    Teacher accused of sexually assaulting seven-year old pupil

    An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court heard yesterday how a teacher, Ngozi Igwe, allegedly assaulted a seven-year-old pupil in the classroom.

    The teacher is facing a lone count charge bordering on sexual assault by penetration before Justice Rahman Oshodi.

    Led in evidence by the state counsel, Ms Bukola Okeowo, the JS2 pupil, now 12 years old, who testified virtually, told the court that the incident happened when she was seven years old and the defendant was her teacher in primary three.

    She said the defendant, on several occasions, called her to his table and sexually assaulted her by inserting his finger in her private parts.

    During cross-examination by the defence counsel, Mr Onome Akpeneye, the survivor said she could not scream while the defendant was assaulting her.

    Justice Rahman Oshodi adjourned the case till December 14 for continuation of trial.
