  • Man arraigned for stabbing minor

    Emmanuel Anya, 33, who allegedly stabbed an eight-year-old girl on the forehead with a spoon was on Monday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

    Anya, who lives at No. 32 Olufunmilayo Street, Joju Road, Ota, is facing a charge of assaulting a minor.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused allegedly committed the offence at about 2.00 p.m. on March 14 at his residence.

    Gbesi said that the accused allegedly assaulted the eight-year-old girl by using spoon on her forehead, which gave her bruises.

    He said that it was the noise of the girl that alerted neighbours who reported the matter to the police.

    Gbesi said that the offence contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code Vol. 11, Law of Ogun, 2006.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O. Banwo, granted the accused N50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

    The case was adjourned until April 6 for hearing.

    Man, 35, docked over alleged N150, 000 motorcycle theft

     A 35-year-old man, Rasaq Adeagbo, who allegedly stole a motorcycle valued N150,000, was on Thursday brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

    Adeagbo, whose address was not stated, is facing a charge of stealing.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Dec. 29, 2016 at about 6.00p.m. at Wole Ayo Street, Ijoko area of Ota.

    Gbesi said that the accused stole a motorcycle marked Ogun GBE 097 VD valued at N150, 000 belonging to Kunle Taiwo.

    The offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O. Banwo, granted bail of N100, 000 to the accused with two sureties in like sum.

    Banwo ordered that the sureties must reside within the court jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed.

    He said that the sureties should also swear to an affidavit of means and produce evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government.

    The magistrate said that the sureties’ addresses should be verified by the police as part of the bail conditions.

    He adjourned the case to March 7 for further hearing

    Teacher arraigned over alleged oral sex with student

    The Police on Tuesday arraigned a 21-year-old teacher, Matthew Sodake, at an Ota Magistrates’ Court for allegedly having oral sex with a 14-year old student.

    The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing alleged charge of assault.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 12 at about 8.00 p.m. at Ambassador Star Comprehensive Secondary School, Answer, Ota in Ogun.

    Gbesi told the court that the accused, a teacher in the school, lured the 14-year-old student (name withheld) into the one of the classrooms and had oral sex with him.

    He said that the offence contravened Section 216 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun,2006.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O Banwo granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Banwo said that the sureties must be residents within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed.

    He also ordered the sureties to swear to an affidavit of means and show evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government .

    The magistrate adjourned the case to Aug. 12, for hearing.

    Police arraign four over alleged theft of N700,000

    The Police in Ogun on Wednesday charged four men: Ogunkoya Adebayo (22), Olufemi Adelaja (24), Onini Brown (20) and Ifeoluwa Olugbenga (27), before an Ota Magistrates’ Court for allegedly breaking into the house of one Sadiku Ogundimi and stealing N700,000 cash.
    The accused persons, whose addresses were unknown, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and burglary.
    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused, and others still at large, committed the offences on Feb. 10 at 4:00 p.m. at Ijamido Street, Ota.
    Gbesi said that the accused and his accomplices conspired amongst themselves to break into the house of the complainant and stole N700,000 cash.
    He said that the offences contravened Sections 390 (9), 413 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O. Banwo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N750,000 with one surety in the like sum.

     

    He said that the surety must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed.

     

    Banwo also directed that the surety should swear to an affidavit of means and produce two-years’ tax clearance from the Ogun Government.

     

    In addition, the surety should submit four recent passport photographs to the court and must possess a reasonable means of identification.

     

    The case was adjourned to April 14, for hearing.
