  • Sheraton Lagos reopens Italian restaurant

    Sheraton Lagos Hotel will reopen  its newly renovated La Giara on May 17.  The hotel said the  restaurant will provide authentically Italian cuisines and ‘ bring to life different flavours of Italy with its unique style of cooking.

    With a distinct rustic feel and an open kitchen plan, aromas emanate teasing diners of the exquisite food about to excite their taste buds.

    According to a release signed by the Marriot group’s country  director of communications, Mrs. Nanji Tyem, the restaurant has undergone renovation to create something special for diners.

    She said: “The restaurant has undergone work to bring the Italian charm of dining to life. Guests will be able to get the full Italian dining experience as they enjoy the traditional Italian recipe in a stylish contemporary environment.  The new menu consists of traditional hand crafted dishes ranging from pizzas to pastas that are sure to delight lovers of Italian cuisine”.

  • Four Points by Sheraton, Le Meridien get new heads

    Starwood Hotels  and  Resorts Worldwide has announced the appointment of a new general manager for Four Points by Sheraton Victoria Island. Lagos. He is Marc Wozniak. In his position, he will report to Barry Curran, Area Manager Nigeria and General Manager of the Sheraton Lagos Hotel, Nigeria.

    Prior to this appointment, Marc was General Manager at the Sheraton Adana Hotel, a position he held since June 2013.

    Marc has over 29 years of experience in the hospitality industry and has gathered extensive management experience in a variety of hotels in Germany, China, Kazakhstan and Nigeria.

    Also, Le Meridien Ogeyi Place Port Harcourt, Nigeria has appointed Mr. Chris Duncan as the General Manager. In his position, he is responsible for the day-to-day management of the hotel and its staff. Mr. Chris Duncan was Resident Operations Manager for the Cape Manor Hotel in Cape Town, South Africa, a position he had held since May 2013. Mr.Chris has over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry and has filled various management positions in South Africa.

  • Sheraton Abuja sends staff for training

    In an effort to boost  staff moral and encourage quality service delivery to its customers, Sheraton Abuja Hotel and Towers  recently sent some of its staff to its sister hotel in Dubai, the Sheraton Grand Hotel. The transfer would offer the staff opportunities for better exposure.

    Among the staff are Joshua Oliver Ndirmbita, Victor Izuwa and Christain Ugwu.

    The General Manager of Sheraton Abuja, Mr. Boris Bornman, congratulated them on the new overseas posting. He said: t “we consider you Ambassadors of your country as you will relocate and work abroad for the first time, this will add great value to your resume and your skill and knowledge base in the industry. I am certain that you will all keep being super stars as you were here, we will miss you and we wish you the best.”

    The manager also said in order to add greater value to the dining experience of the hotel’s customers, the management of Sheraton Abuja Hotel will additionally sponsor  two Nigerian trained Italian Chefs-Chef Olufunke Victor and Chef Timothy Amadi to the Academia Barilla in Italy where they acquire greater and deeper proficiency in Italian Cuisine such as Bruschetta – ‎Bresaola – ‎Capicola – ‎Carbonara  Cotoletta – Ribollita.

  • Sheraton Abuja sends staff for training

    THE Institute of Hospitality, United Kingdom(Nigeria branch), has advised workers in the hospitality industry to ensure  a strict and high level of hygiene to prevent the spread of Ebola or put their guests at risk.

    In a release, titled “Interim Guidance about Ebola Virus Infection for Hotel”,and signed by the  honourary chairman of the institute, Mrs. Kehinde Daniel, the institute advised workers in the hospitality industry to, among other precautionary measures, wear impermeable disposable gloves, while cleaning the guest rooms and lavatories; wipe down lavatory surfaces and frequently touched surfaces in the guest room, such as armrests, seat backs, tray tables, light and air controls, and adjacent walls and windows with an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registered cleaner/disinfectant that has been tested and approved for use; and  do not use compressed air which might spread infectious material through the air.

    If a seat cover or carpet is obviously soiled with blood or body fluids, it should be removed and discarded by the methods used for biohazardous material;  throw used gloves away according to the company’s recommended infection control precautions when cleaning is done or if they become soiled or damaged during cleaning; Clean hands with soap and water (or waterless alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap is not available) immediately after gloves are removed.

    STARWOOD Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, has announced the signing of Four Points by Sheraton Ikot Ekpene, a new  hotel scheduled to debut in 2015. Owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government, Four Points by Sheraton in Ikot Ekpene will be Starwood’s 10th hotel in Nigeria and its second hotel in Akwa Ibom after Le Meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort.

    “This agreement is another milestone for the people of Akwa Ibom and the opening of Four Points by Sheraton Ikot Ekpene will strengthen the hospitality sector in the state,” Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State said.

    Sheraton Lagos unveils Jazz Unplugged

    With mellow jazz music being played by a live band, the whole of the Sheraton Lagos Hotel’s lobby was enveloped in music when last Tuesday the hotel unveiled its latest product, Jazz Unplugged.

    Jazz Unplugged is a kind of mid-week fun where guests can come in after the working hours to relax and have a good time.

    The first edition of Jazz Unplugged, which has gained acceptance based on the number people present, was sponsored by Frontera, Guikder and Jameson and some other brands.

    Speaking at the event, the Sheraton Lagos General Manager, Mr. Alexander Gasseur, said Jazz Unplugged was part of the extra mile the staff put in to satisfy the hotel’s guests.

    He continued: “It is an evening which we organize three times a week between 7 and 9pm where people can come after work chill, relax , hear some good jazz, have some good drinks, taste some good wine,have some good food and generally enjoy themselves. “

    Abuja Sheraton Hotel GM lauds Starwood

    Starwood Hotels, owners of the Sheraton, Le meridian and other hotel brands has opened a new property, the luxury St. Regis Abu Dhabi. The property, which features 283 rooms located from the 33rd to 49th floor, is centrally located in the new Nation Towers complex near the Federal National Council, the Supreme Court and the Ministries area. With a 1300m² ballroom and range of meeting facilities, the hotel expects the corporate market to account for 80% of business, general manager Oliver Key told Hotelier Middle East. The property also offers a selection of restaurants, including a Tuscan-inspired outlet; a Remede Spa and Nation Riveria, a beach club set to open by November. British Michelin starred chef Gary Rhodes heads up the main restaurant Rhodes 44 and has also developed the St Regis signature afternoon tea and room service menus — a first for the chef. The beach club will feature two outsourced restaurants, Asia de Cuba and a seafood outlet, yet to be announced.
