Sheyi Ojo: I perfected my goal against Arsenal in training

SeYI Ojo is delighted to power Liverpool U-23 team to a 3-2 win over Arsenal at Anfield on Monday night.
The 19-year-old said he had practiced the move that led to his goal with his teammates during training adding that he has been working on improving his movement in the opposing team’s defence.
“It was great to score and that was what we have been talking about because for me one of the things I can improve on is movement in behind [the opposition defence],” Ojo told Liverpool Media.
“I worked on it during training with the boys and thankfully the goal came from me running in behind, and it was a great pass from Pedro.
“It was good to get another 90 minutes again under my belt, I’m happy that the team won and it was nice to play at Anfield again.
“It’s great to be back playing again. I was getting a bit of cramp in the last five minutes but I’m feeling stronger every game and long may that continue.
“In the second half we didn’t play as well as we could have but we battled on and we managed to see it through.
“I had some special moments and I’ll never forget that goal, and every day in training and in these matches for the U23s I’m striving to get back to that place again, and hopefully it will come soon.
“It was a great 2016 for me and I’m looking for another special year next year and I’ve just got to keep my head down and keep working hard.”

    Wolves coach hails Sheyi Ojo

Wolves manager Kenny Jackett was unhappy that his side could only pick up a point when they faced Preston North End ( 1 – 1) in the English Championship on Saturday.

And the gaffer went on to point out that a couple of players fluffed several scoring opportunities including Anglo – Nigerian fullback Dominic Iorfa, who would have netted his first goal as a professional but failed to convert his header.

“Iorfa had a good chance with a header, Le Fondre with a header, and Afobe probably had three good chances which he will be disappointed he didn’t convert, ” Jackett told wolves.co.uk.

Twenty five minutes from time, Liverpool loanee Sheyi Ojo stepped out onto the Deepdale Stadium pitch for his ninth appearance of the season across all competitions and the coach admitted that he added more width in attack.

“We changed it around late on and tried to give it some freshness and Ojo gave us some good penetration down the left which he has done when coming on, ” Kenny Jackett added.

Nigeria international Carl Ikeme was an unused substitute against Preston while the teenage striker Bright Enobakhare did not make the 18 – man squad.

    • Completes loan move to Wolves

English Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers have struck a deal with Liverpool over the signing of Sheyi Ojo.

The teenager, who opened his Reds goalscoring account in the friendly against Swindon Town, will remain on loan at the Molineux Stadium until the end of the 2015-2016 season.

Liverpool offered him a multi-year contract before allowing him depart Anfield on a youth loan.

Sheyi Ojo, an England youth international, travelled with the first team of Liverpool, for their pre-season tour of Thailand, Australia and Malaysia.

The Hemel Hempstead-born winger made 11 appearances in the Sky Bet Championship last term while on loan at Wigan Athletic.

Ojo voted Wigan’s Man of the Match

On-loan Wigan Athletic forward Sheyi Ojo picked up the team’s Man of The Match award despite their 3-0 loss to Charlton Athletic.

The 17-year-old was the only bright spot for the Latics, who are now 190 days without a win at home in the English Championship, their last home win was a 4-0 win over Birmingham City in August.

Highly rated at Liverpool, the fast and tricky winger, who is still eligible for Nigeria at senior level despite playing for England at youth level, is playing senior football for the firs time at Wigan and hopes to return to Liverpool to join the first team for pre-season games in the summer.

Ojo took to social media to express his disappointment at the loss but at the same time his excitement at picking up the Man of The Match award was not enough to help his team get a point from the game.

Although he is still searching for his first goal in Wigan Athletic colours, the Anglo-Nigeriam now has two Man of The Match awards, after winning his first against Bournemouth on his debut and he set up the winner for their only goal against Reading in his first start.

Wigan’s poor home form coupled with injuries have left them six points adrift of safety in the Championship table.
