Man United announce new shirt deal with Qualcomm

Manchester United have announced a bumper sponsorship deal with US-based Qualcomm Technologies, whose Snapdragon brand will replace the TeamViewer logo on their shirts from next season.

The Premier League club, who did not reveal the financial details of the deal, were reportedly targeting an agreement worth £60 million ($75 million) per year.

It is understood the figure equals or even surpasses the previous biggest shirt deal in football history.

Qualcomm has been one of United’s global partners since last year.

“Manchester United plc has agreed to an expanded strategic collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc, that will see the Snapdragon brand displayed on the front of the club’s famous shirt,” the club said in a statement confirming the agreement.

United have not won the Premier League since former manager Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

Erik ten Hag’s team have won just two of their first four league matches this season, with fans voicing their frustration at unpopular owners the Glazers.

United’s share price tumbled last week after reports that the Glazers had halted plans to sell the club.

Snapdragon processors feature in smart-phones, PCs, virtual reality systems and gaming devices.

KESHI INSISTS: No automatic shirt for Osaze

Nigeria coach, Stephen Keshi, has dismissed reports that Osaze Odemwingie would be at the Nations Cup as no player is guaranteed a shirt yet.

“No! There was no time I said such a thing. That a player has a shirt in the Nations Cup squad when we have not even entered camp?” Keshi questioned.

“No player is guaranteed a shirt for the Nations Cup. Any player invited for the Nations Cup final camp must prove on the pitch that he deserves to have a shirt.”

West Brom striker Odemwingie last played for Keshi in a Nations Cup qualifier in February in Rwanda and has since not featured for the Eagles again. The Eagles coach has since said the striker was not ready to play for the country after he failed to get back to him as regards his availability for the AFCON qualifier in Liberia in September. A rumoured reconciliation meeting between coach and player has yet to take place.

On the much-talked about training base for AFCON, Keshi confirmed MTNFootball.com report that the Eagles will first train in Faro, Portugal, before they fly down for a final build-up in South Africa.

“We will camp in Portugal and from there head to South Africa,” he said after his choice of Zimbabwe was overruled.

Keshi has called up 24 players from the Nigeria Premier League for training beginning on Sunday in Abuja for the friendly against Venezuela in Miami, USA, on November 14.

Nigeria are drawn in Group C along with defending champions Zambia, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia. They open their campaign on January 21 against Burkina Faso.

AFRICAN CUP OF NATIONS QUALIFIERS: Ideye eyes starting shirt

SUPER EAGLES’ invitee and Dynamo Kiev striker Brown Ideye has shared his thoughts on his invitation to the national team once again by Stephen Keshi for the African Cup of Nations qualifying match against Liberia in Calabar.

The Nigerian striker who makes the list of 15 foreign based players invited to battle Liberia on October 13, said it is always an honour for him to be called upon when the need for national assignment arises.

Speaking live in an interview mornitored on radio yesterday, Ideye added that besides his patrotism and commitment for his father land he accepted to honour the call up with high hopes to be part of action in Calabar.

It would be recalled that Ideye was the only foreign based player who missed action in Monrovia as he was kept on the bench throughout the match alongside some other home-based players.

He said: ” I am happy to be invited. it shows that the head coach believes in me, though I was not part of action in Monrovia but the paraded players were just wonderful. Every coach has his own style and vision of the game. Maybe he thought I would not be able to express myself. So, he did not let me enter the field. I hope technical decision will have me in action in Calabar, though the decision rests solely with the head coach.”

Ideye also said it would be wrong for anyone to discriminate between the home lads and the Eagles’ stars after the wonderful outing at Monrovia saying both sets of players are pride of the national team.

“ I have said it before the home boys are professionals like us based in Europe so it will be wrong to discriminate. I was once a player in the Nigeria league and I know how challenging it is.

“ They have confidence and character. I watch the match on the bench and I think if they maintain the feat they can also win shirts to start even ahead of some of us based abroad,” he added.

  • Men’s shirts that speak

Looking for where to buy shirts? There are many shops to choose from. Some of them are: Twice as Nice Surulere, Konibbles, Ojuelegba, Wrangler Ikeja , Mr Price, Ikeja mall. The shirts are sold at affordable prices.

When shopping for shirts, so many things should be put into consideration. The size of the buyer, the colour of the shirt, which shirt fits the buyer most, etc.

Geoffrey Beene satin wrinkle-free dress shirt is sold for N6,600. Ankle shirt with design goes for N8,000. A Calvin Klein men’s polo is sold for N1,300.

Solid shirts are beneficial in that you can wear virtually any tie with them but patterned shirts are a bit more difficult to match with ties.

A shirt can be made with the best materials and by the best designer but it would not worth much if it doesn’t fit properly. It should closely follow the shape of your upper body, while still allowing you to cross your arms without it pulling at the shoulder.

Shirts can be made out of different types of fabrics such as; polyester, silk, wool, bamboo and the most popular of all is cotton which was the first fabric to be used in the production of shirts.

Shirt is one of the world’s oldest garments discovered by Flinders Petrie. It is a “highly sophisticated” linen design from a first dynasty Egyptian tomb at Tarkan.

The trend is changing, and new shirts are produced more ranging from their different types, like the TM lewin design, Academy design, Atmosphere design , Harris and Curtis design and the Ralph Lauren design.

Other major designers you should look out for when shopping are Ovadia and sons, Paul Smith London, Versace collection, Burberry London

They are commonly worn these days, they are appropriate to wear to the office and other events. Dress shirts can be worn at any time when the situation calls for something that is more than simple or casual.

However, bear in mind that these garments may be on the high side if you shop for a particular top designer.

In some stores where shirts are sold, you might end up looking for dress shirts made by an unknown designer, which may make the shirt cheaper.

Also, depending on the popularity of the store, if the price is too high, you may be able to bargain to some extent and get the known brands cheaper than their usual prices.
