    Giwa shock FC Taraba

Giwa FC continued their rise up the Nigerian Premier League table with a 3-0 thumping of visiting FC Taraba.

It took Giwa 40 minutes to break down a resilient Taraba defence and it was controversially from the spot.

Mohammed Saleh stepped up to put the home side one goal up, after an infringement led to a penalty being awarded, which was heavily contested by players from the visiting team.

Shortly before the half time whistle another penalty was awarded to the home team and Mohammed Saleh converted it to grab his brace but only after FC Taraba threatened to abandon the game in protest.

Upon resumption for the second half, Taraba’s quest to pull a goal back appeared laid back as the host went in search of a goal to put the game beyond their reach. However, two minutes from the final whistle, Giwa sealed the points, courtesy of a goal from Shuaibu Ibrahim.

The 3-0 scoreline can’t be viewed as a fair reflection of Giwa’s dominace but Taraba will feel hard done by the two questionable penalties awarded against them.

  • Akwa shock Sharks in Port Harcourt

Akwa shock Sharks in Port Harcourt

Akwa United made it a miserable match day 19 for Sharks Football Club as they made the Blue Angels relinquish their lead with ease to resurrect their Glo Premier League title aspirations.

The Promise Keepers, who were in search of inspiration surprisingly upset the form books with a 2-1 victory at the Sharks Stadium yesterday.

Godspower Aniefiok, an upcoming player for the visitors, set them on their way with a powerful shot and Ezekiel Bassey added a second before half-time.

Akwa United could have added further goals in a win that leaves them only two points behind the former leaders.

The final whistle was greeted with rage by the home fans who blamed their loss on the numerous missed chances their team failed to convert – and will have Patrick Udoh still  believing his side can consolidate on a good season with a crack at the league shield.

Aranka, who spent a good part of his career with Dolphins in Port Harcourt, lined out a 3-5-1 formation as he tried to keep the well oiled Heartland midfield at bay.

The ploy seemed to work, as both sides played out an almost even contest at the early stages, but with Nembe slightly edging the contest because of their midfield mass.

  • Kinsmen yet to recover from shock

Kinsmen of the slain Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Chinwike Asadau have appealed to law enforcement agencies to unravel the mystery surrounding the brutal murder of the police officer.

The kinsnmen said they were yet to recover from the shock of the news on the demise of their brother whom they described as caring and humble.

Their spokesman, Rev. Dr. Chris Asadu, Senior Special Adviser to Enugu State Governor Sullivan Chime on Inter Party Affairs and Conflict Resolutions, who hails from the same community with the slain commissioner of police, recounted yesterday how family members watched to know if the news was true or not.

He stated that they were still hoping that the police would tell them exactly what happened, adding that the entire Nsukka town had been thrown into serious mourning.

Asadu, who shared the same surname with the late commissioner, disclosed that he and the late police chief were members of an association formed to alleviate povertyin Nsukka, adding that the late police officer was very helpful.

The immediate past Commissioner for Local Government in Enugu State, Prof. Frank Asogwa described Asadu’s death as a serious blow on the people.

Asogwa stated that it was more painful that “my brother was killed right in his own state.”

He expressed regrets that Asadu had left behind rare virtues which he exhibited throughout his service years in the force.

Asogwa said: “His death is a big blow and great loss not only to Nsukka people but Enugu State at large. I think he is presently the only serving police commissioner from Enugu State. So, it is a hard loss to us.

“He is a refined lawyer who was committed to his profession, full of integrity, humility and gentleness. In fact I used to tease him that he was not supposed to be in the police because he is not ‘a force man’.

“When he was promoted as a commissioner, I received him in my house; we

were so close and that’s why I’m finding it hard to believe that he is just gone. Even the officers and men that worked with him when he was at the Enugu state Police Command can attest to his great personality.”

The professor of Law urged law enforcement agents to unravel the mystery surrounding the killing.

EMENIKE,ENYEAMA TO TEAMMATES: Liberia can shock us!

The duo of Spartak Moscow of Russia’s Emmanuel Emenike and Maccabi Tel Aviv shot-stopper, Vincent Enyeama have warned their teammates not to expect a stroll in the pack win over Liberia’s Lone Star on saturday in an African Cup of Nations qualifier slated for Calabar’s UJ Esuene Stadium.

In separate chats with the two players, each stated that the Eagles would have to be at their best against Liberia if they want to book a passage to the next year’s AFCON in South Africa.

Enyeama noted that the Eagles would no doubt be the team to beat but warned that treating the Lone Star with kids glove may prove fatal.

Enyeama stated: “Liberians have a good squad and they will fight with the last drop of their blood on Saturday. We will also fight until we get our objective that is the game of football.

“We will qualify by the help of God we will make it.

“There is no second thought of not qualifying at all. We are not working for a draw or other result it is victory that is on our minds.

“Nigerians should support us through their prayers. It is not going to be easy. It is not going to be a bread and butter thing it will be tough. Let’s see how it goes.”

On his part Emenike enthused that: “We need to be very careful. We need to go out and work. If we start undermining the Liberians they may shock us. They may come out and surprise us. We have to be serious and come out with the resolve to win.”

  • Shock as T.D. Jakes’ daughter divorces

Shock as T.D. Jakes’ daughter divorces

It all started when she was 14. Sarah, daughter of flamboyant mega pastor of Potter’s House Texas Dallas, T .D. Jakes, became pregnant.

To be pregnant at 14 and out of wedlock is bad enough. But to be the daughter of a prominent charismatic preacher worsened the bad case.

Yet, Sarah weathered the storm. She went on to have a son.

Last year, she recalled the incident in a blog titled “Guided Home.” According to her: “I can remember feeling like everyone was staring at me, thinking negative thoughts. I became very familiar with shame, learned quickly how loud whispers can be, how fast rumors travel.”

“More importantly I learned to never let anything or anyone convince me I was no longer worthy of dreaming, living my life to the fullest,” she said of being a teen mother.

At 19, she married Robert Henson, a linebacker for the Washington Redskins. The lavish wedding ceremony was attended by a celebrity list of who’s who such as Tyler Perry, Emmitt Smith, Tom Joyner and Dr. Phil McGraw.

The union produced a daughter. Four years down the line, Sarah is walking out of the marriage. Last week, she wrote on her personal website she is filing for divorce.

According to her: “I have built my ministry and identity around being the best wife and a mother I can be. For quite sometime I have tried to steer through some serious troubles at home. As much as I wanted my marriage to last, it cannot.”

The leader of the Women’s Ministry of Potter’s House went on: “After professional counseling, and prayerful consideration I have decided to end my four-year marriage.”

She then stoked the fire of controversy by stating her decision has biblical support.

Sarah said: “There are biblical grounds supporting this decision and I have attempted every other recourse but after multiple infractions over the course of the union, and for my personal safety and that of my children, I have come to this painful decision.”

T.D. Jakes, whose congregation stands at about 30,000 members, admitted that his daughter’s divorce was difficult but “love overrides everything.”

Sarah requested for prayers and privacy “while I navigate through this difficult season in my life so that I may now concentrate on being the best parent for my children possible.  Thank you for your prayers.”

T.D. Jakes is not the first American prominent preacher whose daughter will divorce. In his book titled Marriage, remarriage and divorce, respected faith preacher, the late Kenneth Hagin, spoke of his despair when his daughter’s marriage crashed.

Renowned televangelist, Evangelist Oral Robert, also watched in horror as his son, Oral Robert (Jr) also ended his marriage. He soon remarried and took over the expansive ministry.

Sarah’s divorce is coming on the heels of the outrage in the Christian community over the crash of Household of God’s founder, Pastor Chris Okotie’s marriage.
