Schalke 04 sacks Sidney Sam, Boateng

Schalke has placed Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sidney Sam on ‘gardening leave’ following Sunday’s 2-0 Bundesliga defeat to Koln.

Roberto Di Matteo’s men have only four league games in 2015, leaving the team in danger of losing out on a spot in the Europa League next season, Goal reports.

The 0-2 defeat at RheinEnergieStadion secured Koln’s top-flight status and left Schalke 13 points behind fourth-placed Bayer Leverkusen.

General Manager Horst Heldt – who has reportedly held a crisis meeting with Di Matteo – said after the game: “Some players are – regardless of contractual arrangements – going to feel the consequences.”

On Monday, Schalke revealed that Boateng and Sam will not be welcomed back at the Veltins Arena, but remain under contract with the Gelsenkirchen side. The pair will be allowed to talk to other clubs to negotiate a summer move.

Hoger, though, is suspended and can return to the club on Sunday for a second chance to prove his worth.

“There is no relationship or trust with Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sam anymore,” Heldt said.

“We are not convinced that either player can help us in the last two games of the season.”

Schalke 04 fail to loan out Sidney Sam

According to German sports magazine Kicker, Schalke  04 had explored the possibility of loaning out Sidney Sam  in the January transfer window.

The Germany international had been offered to several teams, but the leadership of the Gelsenkirchen – based outfit failed to get a favorable response.

Injury has blighted his progress at Schalke 04 since switching from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer market.

Since the start of this season, Sidney Sam has appeared only nine times in the Bundesliga out of a possible 20. The 27-year-old has a valid contract with Scahlke 04 until the summer of 2018.

Keshi says Sam was keen on playing for Nigeria

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) sources have told SportingLife that the decision of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, Sidney Sam to play for Germany, his place of birth, has been taken in good faith by the Nigeria football house.

A top official at the Glass House said there was no cause for alarm over Sam’s choice of playing for Germany after he was named in the team of Germany coach, Joachin Loew for the games against Ecuador and the United States.

But the NFF top official disclosed that “the Nigeria Football Federation has done its best to get Sidney Sam to play for the Super Eagles and we have commenced the processing and at a vantage and conclusive stage when this (his invitation to play for Germany) new development happened.

“We don’t have to waste time by dwelling much on this issue since the player has the choice for his preferred country and since he has chosen Germany let it be. The Super Eagles also has a lot of talented players that are doing well in their clubs and we even have some playing prominently and winning laurels for their clubs like the Mikel Obi and Victor Moses in Chelsea. So no cause for alarm.”

But the Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi said the last time he spoke with the player he told him he wanted to play for the Super Eagles.

“ The last time I spoke with him he was very keen to play for the Super Eagles and I am sure the Nigeria Football Federation President Alhaji Aminu Maigari is keen on getting him to play for Nigeria,” Keshi told SportingLife before departure for Germany for Eagles camping.

Sidney Sam dumps Nigeria for Germany

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, Sidney Sam, has finally opted to play for Germany ahead of Nigeria after he was called up to the national mannschafft squad ahead of the friendly internationals against the United States and Ecuador in June.

Sam, who has played for the Germany under-19 team is eligible to play for the Super Eagles and has been courted in recent months by the Nigeria Football Federation and head coach, Stephen Keshi.

However, Sam may never get to dorn the green-white-green after it was revealed that he had been called up by the Germany coach, Joachin Loew for the friendly matches.

The NFF has now reacted to the development through an Executive committee member who refused to have his name in print.

“Keshi won the Nations Cup in South Africa without Sam so I don’t really see it as such a big miss. Besides Sam hardly speaks a word of English and would have struggled to gel with the rest of the bunch. I also hope for his sake, that Sam does not end up like Patrick Owomoyela who went on to represent Germany without any real fruits to show for it,” the NFF member told Supersport.com on Thursday.

Sam has been capped 19 times at junior level for Germany netting three goals.
