The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has said its members of staff, who went on strike last week have returned to work after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the management.

Head, Corporate Affairs NAICOM, Rasaaq Salami, in a statement said the strike was called off following an agreement reached between the management and members of staff in a peace meeting brokered by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige.

The workers protested over unpaid allowances, poor welfare, lack of promotion, working tools and capacity building.

Other area of grievance include delay in the review of insurance Act 2003 by the National Assembly, claiming that the proposed insurance bill, when passed, would move the sector and the commission forward.

  • Barca accused of tax fraud in Neymar Signing

Barca accused of tax fraud in Neymar Signing

The prosecutors believe that Neymar cost in excess of the 57 million euros ($64.3 million, £42.7 million) declared to the Spanish tax man.

Spanish public prosecutors have asked for Barcelona and their former president Sandro Rosell to be tried for two charges of tax fraud committed in the signing of Brazilian star Neymar.

Meanwhile, prosecutors have also asked for the investigation of current Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu and the club on an extra tax charge in 2014, which could rise to 2.85 million euros.

In a judicial file released on Monday, prosecutor Jose Perals Calleja suggests that Rosell and Barca declared an inferior fee to that which they paid for Neymar in 2013.

The prosecutors believe that Neymar cost in excess of the 57 million euros ($64.3 million, £42.7 million) declared to the Spanish tax man.

They cite the figure at a cost of 82,743,485 euros divided into sperate contracts that secured the signing.

According to the calculations of the Spanish tax authorities, Barcelona owe a total of 12,148,696 million euros in tax on the deal, which would see the overall cost of the operation rise to 94.8 million euros.

Rosell resigned as president over the affair just over a year ago when a complaint brought by one of the club’s members for misappropriation of funds was taken to court.

In his testimony before a judge on the case in July of 2004, Rosell insisted that Neymar cost the club 57 million euros, 17 of which went to his former club Santos and 40 million paid to N&N, a company owned by the player’s father.

However, following Rosell’s resignation, Barcelona also confirmed a number of extra agreements including a 10 million euro signing bonus for the player and scouting and collaborative agreements between the two clubs taking the total to 86.2 million euros.

In February of last year, the club announced that they had made a voluntary payment of 13.5 million euros to the Spanish tax authorities regarding the transfer.

  • Wenger: Arsenal not close to signing anyone

Wenger: Arsenal not close to signing anyone

Arsene Wenger claims Arsenal are not set to sign anyone in the coming days, following their 0-0 Champions League draw with Besiktas on Tuesday evening.

The Gunners have spent over €62 million on Alexis Sanchez, Calum Chambers, David Ospina and Mathieu Debuchy this summer, but continue to be linked with the likes of Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira and Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho.

Yet Wenger has now revealed that the club are not actively attempting to finalise any deals.

“Not at the moment, no,” he told the Gunners’ official website when asked if a transfer was close. “I have nothing special to add on that at the moment. Honestly, we are not close to signing anybody.”

Wenger admits the club are “short” in defence but hopes to be able to field World Cup winning centre-back Per Mertesacker – along with compatriots Mesut Ozil and Lukas Podolski – in this weekend’s Premier League clash with Everton.

“We are a bit short at the back, yes you’re right,” he added. “But we should have [Per] Mertesacker and [Mesut] Ozil and [Lukas] Podolski available again at the weekend. Let’s hope they are in good shape when we go home.”

Norwegian side regret not signing Mba

Norway’s Haugesund have regretted their decision not to sign Nigerian offensive player Sunday Mba some years back. The Warri Wolves star ted with the club in November 2007.

Mba, then a teenager, trained with FKH, and despite scoring a hat-trick in the 8-2 win over Kopervik, he was not offered a contract.

Nils Halvor Berge, who was the sporting administrative manager of Haugesund, labelled Mba and the other Nigerian trialists bad players.

”We want something extraordinary, but the only thing that has been extraordinary with sample players, is how bad they’ve been,” Berge told h-avis.no in 2007.

In a recent interview with Norwegian newspaper VG Nett, Nils Halvor Berge has regretted those statements credited to him.

”I see that the Haugesund Avis writes it and I can not remember having said so. If I’ve said it, was the flippant comment I never should have come with. If true then it is a stupid statement.

”The assessments were made then was that no one could excel except Mba. It is obvious that we failed to see the potential that lay in the boy at the time,” Berge told vg.no.

Obinma Allen, Obinna Okafor, Timothy Anjembe and Kabiru Alausa had traveled with Mba to Norway but they all went home empty-handed without signing contracts. Norwegian – Nigerian agent Atta Aneke facilitated the trials for the five players.
