Residents of Akure, Ondo State capital, have expressed their anger over the blocking of their SIM by mobile service providers despite linking their numbers to their National Identification Number (NIN).
There were huge crowds at various telecommunication offices in Akure metropolis.
Some subscribers said they were at the TELCOs offices as early as 5am.
Those who came at about 8pm said they were still waiting to write their name before they could get numbers.
What fueled some of the subscribers’ anger was that their lines were blocked despite linking their NIN to the phone numbers.

Afolabi Abdulahi, who said he has lost huge money because his blocked line was his link to his business partners.
He said: “I am very angry now. I have linked my line more than 10 times but they blocked yesterday afternoon, I did not reveive any message from MTN. My line was suddenly blocked.
Another subscriber who gave his as Idowu Oyenusi, urged MTN to create other means through which the NIN could be linked.
He said he tried the online method but didn’t work.
