    Why I drowned my one-year-old son, by single mother

    A 24 year old single mother, Miss Sophia Nkwor,  has been arrested for allegedly drowning her one-year-old son.

    She was paraded with other suspects before reporters in Asaba, Delta Capital.

    She hails from Araya community, Isoko North LGA, Delta State, according to the police.

    Delta Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abaniwonda Olufemi said: “On 28th of April 2024, a case of infanticide was reported at Oleh Division, that a suspect named Sofia Nkwor (female) aged 24 years from Isoko South local government area, dumped her child of one year and one month old in a well along the road in Araya community Isoko South LGA.

    “Children who went to play around the tree discovered the abandoned child floating on the well”, adding that “the mother of the child was immediately arrested and she confessed that she dumped the child on 26th April 2024.”

    Sophia said she decided to kill Destiny because his father the rejected son, making her to be depressed.

    According to her, she lives with her grandmother in the community without financial support.

    “l have no helper, it was only me that was taking care of the child. l was the only one that was doing everything and l was tired of doing that,” she said, adding that she was in a bad mood when she committed the act,” she added.

    Abaniwonda said operatives nabbed a 45 year old Chiemenam Adigwe, a fake alcoholic drinks manufacturer.

    The CP also told newsmen during the briefing:  “On 25th April 2024 at about 1100 hours, the Command received an intelligence report about a suspect who produces fake alcoholic drinks in Bomadi.

    “I directed the DPO (Divisional Police Officer) Bomadi Division to work on the intel and ensure that the suspect is tracked down, arrested and brought to book.

    “In compliance with my directive, the DPO Bomadi division led operatives to the hideout where one Chiemenam Adigwe (male) aged 45 years, a native of Akpo community in Aguata LGA, Anambra State was arrested with over hundred bottles of Gordons, Chelsea, Eagle Schnapps and McDowell’s recovered.

    “Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect mixes ethanol with water and adds flavor to it, then package these fake drinks in empty bottles of Gordons, Chelsea, and McDowell’s which he usually buys from Onitsha. Suspect also stated that when he supplies to his customers, he tells them he usually order the drinks from Onitsha. Suspect is in custody and investigation is ongoing.”

  • Single mother needs N1m for breast surgery

    A SINGLE mother, Omowunmi Adekanbi urgently needs N1m to run tests, undergo a breast surgery and buy drugs.

    Adekanbi, who was at The Nation newspapers office during the week, has done three surgeries to remove several lumps from her left breast but after the last surgery in September last year, the lump has grown back.

    Speaking to this reporter, Adekanbi, who is in severe pain said: “I have a problem on my left breast. I have removed the lump that keeps growing on it three times but it has grown again and the doctor said I have to remove it before it becomes cancerous. In the last years that I have been removing it, I have spent all my savings.”

    Adekanbi who had also suffered from thyroid and operated it in the past says that she needs to remove it urgently and find a lasting solution to it.

    Showing this reporter past receipts, laboratory tests and prescriptions from doctors, she called on well-meaning Nigerians to come to her aid.
