Skales addresses criticism over church testimony

Afrobeats singer Skales has responded to criticism over his testimony at Harvesters Church, acknowledging that his initial reaction may have been rushed but asserting his clarified stance.

In his testimony, Skales credited Barcelona star Lamine Yamal with reviving his career after his 2015 hit “Shake Body” gained renewed attention. He expressed gratitude for Yamal’s role in reigniting his music journey.

Responding to critics on X, Skales wrote, “I may have responded too quickly to the concerns raised about my crossover testimony at Harvesters Church. After sitting with it, I felt it was important to respond again. This time with more clarity and less emotion, for the sake of the Body of Christ.”

He emphasised that every believer has a purpose, whether within the pulpit or beyond, and that one’s calling outside the church is equally meaningful.

Defending his testimony, Skales highlighted that professionals—including musicians, filmmakers, athletes, and teachers—serve God through their work. Citing 1 Corinthians 12:28, he stressed that sharing God’s impact in one’s life is entirely appropriate.

Reaffirming his commitment, Skales declared his readiness to publicly share his faith, stating that as a child of God, he has no reservations about testifying to His work in his life.

“As children of the Lord, we all have our part to play. I truly believe that those who believe in the Word but are not in the pulpit do not have a lesser calling, just a different assignment. Just because something doesn’t happen from the pulpit doesn’t make it any less significant. Musicians, filmmakers, athletes, teachers, etc.

“We exist to make life lighter for others. We all function here, serving God through what we’ve been called to do. That said, I will never believe that testifying about what my God has done for me is wrong! I’m a child of God, and I have no problem sharing that with the world. 1 Corinthians 12:28,” he wrote.
