  • Skye Bank recruits entry level staff nationwide

    Skye Bank has announced plans to recruit fresh graduates into its employment at entry level. The recruitment exercise aims to create employment opportunities for young employees into the organization whilst positioning  the bank for improved competition in retail banking services across the country.

    Candidates wishing to apply are expected to visit the bank’s website at www.skyebankng.com, fill the form and submit online.

    Speaking on the recruitment exercise,  the Group Head, Human Capital Management of the bank, Mr. Taiwo Olupeka, stated: “We remain an employer of choice and as a responsible corporate citizen, we are poised to create fair opportunities for young Nigerians to  attain their career aspirations in one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions. This step also enables us address in some measure the menace of youth unemployment in Nigeria”.

    The recruitment process involves the selection of qualified candidates from a pool of applicants across the country who will be taken through a 9-week  rigorous training at the bank’s Training Schools before absorption  into the system as full employees.

  • Skye Bank promotes 875

    Skye Bank has promoted over 875 workers, following the completion of its 2017 annual staff performance review.

    The promotion, which cuts across  cadres, the bank said, was in line with its commitment to reward workers who performed creditably during the past financial year.

    According to sources, some staff members, who failed in the performance appraisal due to factors, such as poor performance, disciplinary issues or low productivity were exited.

    The management of the bank has since okayed severance packages to the exited workers.

    In a statement to the staff members, the bank’s  Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Tokunbo Abiru, said: “Your promotions, which are well deserved, come as a reward for dedication, commitment and conscientiousness, which you have exhibited over time in your diverse responsibilities’

    According to Abiru: “Needless to say, the Management is unwavering in its commitment to ensuring that industrious performance that clearly impacts positively on the Bank’s bottom line will always be rewarded appropriately”.

    While congratulating the staff members on their elevation, Abiru urged others to continue to work hard, assuring that those who delivered would earn commensurate benefits.

    In 2016, over 300 workers were elevated.

    Experts said the bank deserved kudos because the promotion was coming during tough operating environment, post-recession.

  • Skye Bank promotes financial literacy

    The Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Skye Bank Nigeria Plc, Tokunbo Abiru, yesterday advised students in secondary schools across the country to take money matters seriously if they wish to be in control of their financial future.

    He gave the advice while delivering a lecture during a one-day seminar at Rayfield International Secondary school, Nsukara Offot, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

    The seminar, facilitated by Skye Bank Nigeria Plc, was to mark the 2018 Global Financial Week organised by the Central Bank of Nigeria in collaboration with Junior Achievement Nigeria. The theme for this year’s edition is “Money Matters Matter”.

    The Global Money Week is celebrated worldwide. March 15, 2018 is however chosen by the CBN and Junior Achievement Nigeria to teach the younger generation the virtues of financial planning and management aimed at increasing the level of financial literacy while boosting the financial inclusion drive of the CBN.

    Represented by Raphael Abiaziem, the bank’s Regional Manager, South-South, Abiru said that the financial week celebration is aimed at empowering young people with financial knowledge that will rightly position them for the future.

    He said: “Money Matters matter,” adding that “children and youth need to receive the knowledge and develop skills necessary to make smart financial decisions throughout life.”

    Abiru noted: “Financial Literacy is an essential life skill that is lacking in our educational curriculum which should be part of the education that we give to our children to prepare them for the realities of the world out there.

    “We want young people to learn how to manage their money wisely so they can become financially empowered and form part of a critical mass that will spread financial and entrepreneurial education in the country.”

    The drama and suspense that greeted the recent draw of the promo will remain evergreen in the minds of the crowd that gathered at the busy Ekiosa market in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

    As the savings account number, name and phone number flashed on the giant electronic board mounted where the previous consolatory cash and other prize winners had been shown, the crowd hailed the winner, Mrs. Eunice Odubor, an Inspector with the Civil Defence Corp, from Ishan but resident in Benin City.

    She picked her call and confirmed her identity. She sounded hesitant despite the shout of joy by the crowd. Apparently, the lucky winner found the news of her emergence rather laughable.

    The 48-year-old widow praised  Skye Bank for the reward, noting that after the death of her husband three years ago, things had been very rough for her and her four kids, one of whom had dropped out from school on account of lack of funds. But now with N1 million richer, she wants to push for her son to continue his education and also buy a land to start a building project.

    Elated Mrs. Odubor, who could not hold back tears expressed her gratitude to Skye Bank for the money and promised to tell others to bank with the bank. She said: “part of the amount will be invested in the education of my child who had dropped out of the Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma due to lack of money.”

    She noted with emphasis that Skye Bank has never for a day deducted money from her savings account and she has never contemplated ever switching to another bank even when some of her colleagues were thinking of doing so at some point. “I told them NO,” she stated emphatically.

    Forty other lucky winners across Nigeria also went home with various cash gifts ranging between N20,000 and N100,000.

  • NSE adds Sterling Bank, Skye Bank, others to most influential stocks’ groups

    THE Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) is expected to move  Sterling Bank Plc, Diamond Bank and three other stocks to the top index of 30 most capitalised stocks  in the forthcoming review of the stock market’s indices.

    The NSE is expected to review the six group indices that track performance of some groups of stocks at the stock market by the end of this month. These included the NSE 30 Index, which tracks the 30 most capitalised stocks; the NSE 50 Index, which tracks the top 50 stocks; the NSE Banking Index, which tracks banking subsector; the NSE Consumer Goods Index, which serves as benchmark index for the consumer goods stocks; the NSE Oil and Gas Index, which tracks the oil and gas sector; the NSE Industrial Index, which underscores the building materials and other industrial goods stocks; the NSE Insurance Index, that tracks insurance stocks , NSE Pension Index-which tracks stocks specially screened in line with pension investment and the NSE Lotus Islamic Index, which tracks select stocks adjudged to meet the stringent Islamic standards of ethical stocks.

    At the completion of the first stage of its year-end review, the NSE indicated that it will change five stocks within the NSE 30 Index. The five of Dangote Flour Mills Plc, Diamond Bank Plc, NASCON Allied Industries Plc, Cadbury Nigeria Plc and Sterling Bank Plc will replace 7Up Bottling Company, Oando, UACN, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc and Forte Oil Plc.

    Under the NSE Pension Index, the review will see the replacement of four companies-7Up Bottling Co Plc, Oando Plc, Conoil Plc and united Capital Plc with Honeywell Flour Mills Plc, International Breweries Plc, Continental Reinsurance Plc and Cement Co of Northern Nigeria Plc.

    Lafarge Africa and Nigerian Aviation Handling Company will be added to the ethical NSE Lotus Islamic Index, while 7Up Bottling Company Plc and GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria Plc will be removed from the ethical stocks’ list.

    In the influential NSE Banking Index, Skye Bank Plc and Unity Bank Plc will replace Wema Bank Plc and Sterling Bank Plc.

    The NSE Consumer Goods Index will include Northern Nigeria Flour Mills Plc, DN Tyre & Rubber Plc and Nigeria Enamelware Plc while 7Up Bottling Company Plc, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc and Champion Breweries Plc will be removed.

    Under the populous NSE Insurance Index, four companies-Equity Assurance Plc, Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc, Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc and Consolidated Hallmark Insurance Plc will be replaced with new entrants including Regency Alliance Insurance Plc, STACO Insurance Plc, Universal Insurance Plc and Standard Alliance Insurance Plc.

    The rebalanced NSE Industrial Index will have Grief Nigeria Plc and Austin Laz & Company Plc in exchange for Portland Paints & Products Nigeria Plc and DN Meyer Plc while the NSE Oil and Gas Index will have Japaul Oil & Maritime Services Plc and Eterna Plc as replacement for Oando Plc and MRS Oil Nigeria Plc.

    Skye Bank named top donor in Lagos Security Trust Fund

    Skye Bank and six other lenders have been awarded platinum prize as top donors in the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).

    The lenders were praised and awarded platinum prize for committing huge resources to securing lives and property in Lagos State.

    The top donor awards to Skye Bank and six organisations were part of the activities at the 11th Town Hall Meeting on Security with the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, which coincided with the 10th anniversary of LSSTF which took place on Wednesday in the new Banquet Hall at the Governor’s Office in Ikeja, Lagos.

    Ambode commended the companies for partnering with the state government through LSSTF to secure lives and property in the state by committing huge resources to the fight against criminality in the megacity.

    Commenting on the award, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Skye Bank, Tokunbo Abiru, thanked the State Governor, LSSTF and other stakeholders for recognising the efforts of the bank in combating crime in the state.

    Abiru noted that there can be no meaningful progress where the peace of the state is under security threat.

    He used the opportunity to reach out to well-meaning Lagosians and residents in the state, especially the business community, to join hands with “the rest of us who have demonstrated corporate citizenship by supporting the state to combat crime.”

    The Skye Bank boss was ably represented by the directorate head, Lagos Business, Segun Opeke, who received the award from the state governor.

    Chairman of the LSSTF, Hassan Oye-Odukale, traced the history of the fund and commended the initiative and the transformation that it has had on crime fighting which according to him has become a model being copied by the federal government, other states and even countries.
