The High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Nigeria, Retired Major General Sohail Khan, has called on Pakistanis to reaffirm their dedication to building a stronger, more innovative and prosperous nation.
Speaking in Abuja during the joint commemoration of Pakistan’s Independence Day and Defence Day, Khan highlighted the resilience and achievements of Pakistan since gaining independence in 1947.
“I am privileged and proud to represent a nation that has risen from humble beginnings to become a beacon of resilience, progress, security, and global stature,” he said.
“Pakistan’s journey has been one of remarkable achievement. Today, our nation contributes to global peace, economic growth, and human development, while remaining a strong voice for justice in regions like Kashmir and Palestine.”

The envoy noted Pakistan’s key role in international forums and peacekeeping efforts, with over 200,000 troops deployed under UN missions since 1960.
He also showcased the country’s agricultural and industrial strength, ranking among the top producers of cotton, rice, sugarcane, wheat, mangoes, dates, oranges, and sports goods worldwide.
Khan praised Pakistan’s armed forces, ranked 12th globally in the 2025 Global Firepower Index, for their courage and sacrifice in defending the country and contributing to global peace, noting that over 80,000 personnel have lost their lives in the fight against terrorism.
He also cited the recent success of Operation Bunyanum Marsoos against Indian aggression in May 2025 as evidence of Pakistan’s strength and resilience.
On bilateral ties, Khan described Pakistan–Nigeria relations as a model of brotherhood and strategic partnership, underpinned by growing trade, defence, and security cooperation.
“As we commemorate our independence and defence day, let us renew our commitment to building a stronger Pakistan, one that leads in innovation, peace, and prosperity. Together, we are unbreakable,” the envoy said.
