Sokoto APC dismisses ADC threat, predicts landslide victory in 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State has described the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a recycled political coalition that lacks the capacity to challenge the ruling party’s dominance in the state.

The APC said the ADC, regardless of the platform under which it operates, cannot wrest power from the party in the caliphate, insisting that the coalition would suffer a landslide defeat in future elections.

The state APC Chairman, Isah Sadik Achida, made the remarks on Thursday during an all-inclusive stakeholders’ meeting of party stalwarts and members in Tambuwal Local Government Area, Sokoto State.

The session was organised by the Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto Youths Contact, Mobilisation and Enlightenment Ambassadors as part of efforts to deepen the APC’s Renewed Hope Agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Achida said individuals regrouping under the ADC were well-known political actors who had failed to deliver meaningful results to the people of Sokoto State, describing them as figures who had already exhausted their political relevance.

He maintained that the APC remains united, resilient and firmly positioned to retain power in the state, adding that no rebranded opposition alliance could undermine its growing support base.

“We all know them. They failed to deliver after 8 years.

“They have nothing new to present but rather than to further destroy the state”, he pointed out.

Achida added, “I leave the space for Sokoto people to judge with every honesty”, explaining that Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has for the first time in the political history of the state, done beyond what his predecessor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal did even in his home local government.

“The current APC governor has done a lot to the local government with visionary leadership of its leader, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko in the provision of infrastructure and other basic facilities for the benefit of the people.

“He gave them the required priority in terms of appointments and governance”, he said urging members and all stakeholders to be steadfast and more united to fly the party’s flag for victory”, noting that the party knew how best to manage and keep it house attractive and resilient.

A party stalwart and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Aminu Dikko Tambuwal, who also spoke on behalf of Alhaji Umaru Nagwari Tambuwal, said Tambuwal town has benefited significantly across nearly all sectors since the inception of the current APC administration.

He commended the party’s youth and women wings for their dedication, describing their commitment to unity, brotherhood and perseverance as critical to the APC’s success in the area.

Tambuwal also highlighted the inclusive leadership style of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, whom he described as a unifying force and a key political pillar whose strategic leadership produced a resilient governor in Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, credited with repositioning Sokoto State.

“We are proud of the quality of governance in Sokoto State today. The people of Tambuwal Local Government have every reason to appreciate the governor for identifying with us in several areas of development and governance. This marks a clear departure from what we experienced under someone we regarded as our own, who completed his tenure without tangible impact,” he said.

He cited several empowerment and development initiatives that, according to him, have enabled many residents to become self-reliant through various trades.

Meanwhile, the Renewed Hope Agenda continues to gain momentum across the caliphate, with its action plans being rapidly implemented at the grassroots.

Local government coordinators, also known as ambassadors, were said to be driving the initiative’s expansion, particularly following the mass defection of opposition Peoples Democratic Party leaders and members from wards across Tambuwal Local Government Area to the ruling APC.

Tambuwal left N14bn unpaid gratuity, pension of retirees – Sokoto APC

The ruling All Progressives Congress in Sokoto State on Friday accused the immediate past administration of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of leaving behind a whooping N14bn worth of unpaid gratuity and pension of retirees for the period between 2015 and 2023.

It also alleged that the former governor had, despite collecting N16bn FG funds meant to offset the dues, failed to channel the resources as directed.

This is coming on the heels of an earlier claim by Tambuwal before the Senate that he had defrayed all liabilities linked to civil servants entitlements in the state, including gratuity and pension dues.

“I have cleared all arrears and entitlement of workers. No civil servant is owed by my government “, Tambuwal had said before the Senate.

However, the APC noted that the development was among the starling monumental failures that characterised the PDP-led government of Tambuwal, which left a dismal record of performance in all spheres of socio-economic development of the state.

According to Achida, “We were so indebted to PHCN, which the governor had to make an emergency intervention arrangement to restore power to affected organisations and public offices, including education, medical and other institutions who had suffered disconnection for months due to accumulated debts.

“Today, as I am addressing this press conference, Governor Aliyu Sokoto has approved the payment of gratuity arrears of N4bn to retirees between now and December on a first come, first served basis”, he said.

The decision was sequel to the sustained and flagrant anti-party activities by the party official.

However, the State Executive Committee reached the decision at a meeting of the party which was also attended by the Chairmen of the party in all the twenty-three local governments of the state.

Accordingly, the party said it regretted that, Abdulkadir has consistently and continued to romance and openly work for the opposition party, rather than his supposed party, the  APC.

The party’s stand contained in a statement issued by the state Publicity Secretary,  Sambo Bello Danchadi said leaders of the party have therefore called on the National Leadership of the APC, to urgently do the needful, take all the necessary steps to remove Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir from office.

Meanwhile, the state chapter of the party has passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of the Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum and Coordinator,  North West,  Presidential Campaign Council,  Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.

This was brought to the fore at a courtesy call on Senator Wamakko, following a meeting of the State Executive Committee, the local Governments Party Chairmen and all elected Party representatives at Federal and State legislatures.

Speaking during the epoch-making visit, the Sokoto State APC Chairman, Alhaji Isa Sadiq Achida,  Turakin Achida, disclosed that,  the entire party machinery in the state was satisfied with the leadership style, commitment and foresight of Senator Wamakko in championing the cause of the APC and Sokoto State.

In his response, Senator Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District thanked the party leadership for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to uphold their trust.

He thanked the entire party supporters in the state for their patience, even in the face of theft of the party’s mandate, he assured them that justice will surely prevail as APC will soon reclaim its governorship and legislative seats were unjustly taken away.

In a related development, the party has chided the Sokoto State Government and the Peoples Democratic Party  ( PDP), on the ongoing acts of intimidation against civil servants perceived to be loyal to the APC.

The party decried that, the ongoing arbitrary and punitive postings of such workers were majorly intended to settle political goals, rather than furthering service delivery, as well as taking Sokoto State to the NEXT LEVEL.

  • Sokoto APC alleges attack on supporters by PDP

IRKED and threatened by the wanton and unprovoked attacks on its supporters across the state, the Sokoto state chapter of the All Progressives Congress has called on the security agencies to take necessary steps to instantly halt the heinous attacks and bring perpetrators to justice to serve as deterrent.

” Unless the security agencies do the needful, they will be putting public confidence in them to jeopardy”, it pointed out.

In the same vein, the opposition APC in the state also said it had chosen to seek redress for the injustices meted the party in the rerun governorship polls through democratic and legal means.

While it was watching and expecting that culprits and perpetrators of the attacks were unravelled and made to the full wrath of the law, the party said:” We are aware that security agencies have made some arrests in Tambuwal, Goronyo, Sokoto and other places.”

In a release signed and issued to reporters in Sokoto Thursday by the state chairman of the party, Alhaji Sadiq Isa Achida, the party also stated that it was compelled to sound caution to the perpetrators and their sponsors that “enough is enough.”

The party according to the release titled” Enough of the PDP Atrocities in Sokoto” said its desire for peace to reign in the state should not and must not be misconstrued as a sign of weakness.

” PDP thugs attacked and killed Sani Aliyu, an APC supporter in Giyawa village of Goronyo local government. Another APC supporter was also attacked in Sifawa, Bodinga local government, now lying unconscious in UDUTH as a result of the physical assault on him.

” Highly placed religious clerics were also attacked and their families maimed and injured. Our supporters have become easy targets in their homes, markets, mosques and business premises almost on a daily basis since the declaration of the rerun elections results by INEC.

” Our opponents of the PDP should note that they do not have monopoly of the ability to perpetrate violence”, Achida cautioned.

However, the opposition party in the state which urged its supporters not to react in any way and should continue to be law-abiding citizens, added” we hope that our state will be saved from the danger that could befall our people should those responsible for maintaining peace in our state fail in their duty as we assure our supporters in the state that the party is working assiduously to defend our interest and we are confident of being victorious soon “, the release concluded.

  • Sokoto APC tackles PDP over allegations of thuggery

THE Sokoto State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has indicated that it was not ready to join issues with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying the opposition party is fast loosing acceptability in the state.

Speaking at a press conference in the state capital, the APC Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sambo Danchadi, said the party has reached the end of the road and is confused about what to do next. He added that the PDP has resorting to whipping up sentiment, by playing the victim and hiding behind an imaginary political thuggery.

Danchadi expressed shock at what he described an unfounded lies, adding: “it is surprising how a political party like the Sokoto PDP with the chief security officer of the state as its leader would be inundating us with the cries of attacks by political thugs”.

He urged the opposition party to brace up to the challenges of infrastructure deficit and the lack of conducive atmosphere for trade and small scale businesses.

The PDP had in a recent press statement alleged that its members were being attacked by thugs allegedly sponsored by the APC.

But Danchadi urged the PDP to stop crying wolf where there is none. He described the press statement, which was signed by the party’s spokesman, Abdullahi Hausawa, as a charade aimed at scoring two cheap political points.

He said: “First, it is aimed at attracting underserved public sympathy and to undermine the growing popularity of the APC, which was earned through the political savvy of the godfather of modern Sokoto politics, Aliyu Wamakko.”

The APC spokesman said the caliphate had come a long way from the era of cheap lies and propaganda as a political tool for intimidating the opposition in silence. He added: “It is an outdated political gimmick that cannot change the narrative about the waning popularity of the ruling party in the state.”’

He noted that having lost its acceptability and time was fast running out for making amends, “the opposition party presumes that the only option left is to create a false alarm as a form of psychological warfare against the people of Sokoto State in order to justify the use harsh tactics of political intimidation and harassment”.

The APC spokesman described the PDP’s latest attempt to play the victim as ridiculous. He added: “So strange it is that a government in power in a state like Sokoto would report a matter to the police and no action would be taken. This is surely in the imagination of the politicians who have bandied this funny claim in the first place.”

  • 2019: Sokoto APC vows not to recognise Sen. Gada

    …asked to register with

THE Sokoto state ‎All Progressives Congress(APC) has vowed not to recognise Senator Abubakar Gada for allegedly picking the party’s nomination and expression of interest form for the state governorship seat without duly registered by the party in his ward.

The party insisted that Senator Gada was not a card carrying member of the party and could not have joined in contesting governorship election on the its platform.

According to the party, the said senator had never been a member of the party and could not “reap where he did not sow”.

In a statement issued by the party on Sunday, the State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Isah Sadiq Achida, who referred to a publication in one of the dailies, that the Senator had purchased APC guber nomination forms from the party headquarters, maintained that Gada was never a card-carrying member of the party.

“The Sokoto State branch of the APC wishes to state categorically that as far as APC Sokoto is concerned, Senator Abubakar Gada is NOT a card carrying member of the APC. It is therefore a surprise that he has even gone as far as attempting to run for Governorship! Even if he carries any APC card, we doubt its authenticity and may have been fraudulently acquired, because it is nowhere in our records.

“The last we heard of him in Sokoto State politics, was in 2011 when he made a failed attempt to run for the Senate. He has never participated in any meetings or activities of the APC in Sokoto State, neither has he ever attended any Stakeholders meeting hosted by the Sokoto State Chapter of the APC.

“We are however aware that he is one of the several ‘absentee politicians’ in Abuja instigating trouble for our party against which the party is determined to deal with him,” the statement read.

However, Achida in the statement requested that the National secretariat of the party rejects the forms until Gada came to register with the party at his ward, adding that doing otherwise would amount to impunity.

“In view of the foregoing, I wish to request our National Headquarters to reject his gubernatorial contest forms and advise him to come home and register if he wishes to participate in APC affairs in Sokoto State.”

He said “ doing otherwise will amount to encouraging impunity, crowning injustice and refusal to appreciate the efforts of loyal party members at home who have been toiling and sacrificing for our success,” he added.

But Senator Gada who reacted through his media assistant, Mr Uche Nnaji, dismissed Achida’s response to his aspiration as panicky, cowardice and serious anti-party.

“Any genuine APC stakeholder in the state must celebrate the party membership of Senator Abubakar Gada as a huge victory for the party in the face of mass defections of Governor Tambuwal and nearly the entire APC structures in sokoto state. There is no gain saying that the better half of APC (Tambuwal and his government) in Sokoto had since defected leaving behind only remnants, which Achida and his god father represent in the circumstances.

“For the avoidance of doubt, it is imperative at this point to note that there is no lawful state exco in Sokoto state today. A claim to having legally reconstituted state exco amount to self deception and illusions.

“As a result, having the Senator and his supporters coming at the time they did should be regarded as most timely.

“Having frustrated Governor Tambuwal out of the party by Achida’s god fathers cannot achieve similar result. So, be warned in earnest.

“For Distinguished Senator Gada and his like minds, they are in APC purposely to support President Buhari in his 2019 re-election and beyond. Therefore, those who choose to remain in the APC for fear of their past should in their own interest, lie low as such characters cannot stand the test of loyalty.

“As to whether Gada is an APC member presently is a question only for the weak-minded and therefore not worth any response.

“Suffice it say however that genuine and progressive stakeholders of the APC in Sokoto state have since made their representations to the NWC and courts of competent jurisdiction as the case may be,” Gada stated.

  • Sokoto APC passes vote of confidence in Buhari
