Solid Star quits smoking, alcohol consumption

Singer, Joshua Iniyezo, popularly known as Solid Star, has revealed that he is doing fine and healthier than he was months ago.

The Nation reported that the singer was spotted looking dirty and walking aimlessly on the street but his brother Joseph, who shared a video, asserted that the singer was grappling with drug addiction, which was taking a toll on him.

Contradicting this, in an interview with Punch, Solid Star affirmed that he had overcome his addiction and no longer engaged in substance abuse.

He said: “I am very well and healthy now. I have been out of the hospital for four months now, but I am still taking my medication. I no longer smoke or take alcohol. I keep everything plain now. I am doing very fine; working to make the world dance again with the good vibe I always bring. I have a studio at my place, and I am ready for my fans. I have been working tirelessly to ensure I present quality music like I always do.”

Asked about the lessons he learnt during his ordeal, the ‘Omotena’ singer said: “I have learnt not to always be by myself because communication is very important. I was always by myself, so I became depressed, and I started seeing people around me as enemies. I have learnt to love and be positive.”

Speaking on whether he got support from his colleagues during his low moments, he said: “Yes, I received support from friends, colleagues, fans and family. As a matter of fact, their support made my stay at the hospital comforting, and I appreciate all of them for their support. If not for their support, I would have had a terrible stay at the hospital. But, I was able to pay my bills and eat good meals because of them.”

    Solid Star battles child rape

WORRIED by the increasing rate of rape involving underage children in the country, Delta State-born singer, Joshua Iniyezo, aka Solid Star, recently established the Solid Star Rape Campaign, with particular interest in schools.

“I want to use my fame and fortune to put the needs of others before mine and right the wrongs of our society, especially the rising trend of rape. That’s what gave birth to this anti-rape initiative, the Solid Star Rape Campaign,” the musician disclosed.

He noted that he would be joining hands with other celebrities to campaign against the cankerworm which, according to him, had gradually eaten deep into the fabric of the society.

As part of efforts to realise this dream, the Solid Star Rape Campaign, in collaboration with his record label, Achievas Music, has concluded plans to begin visitations to schools in Nigeria, so as to distribute free books on rape to students with the aim of creating awareness for the menace.

The anti-rape project, the artiste said, is targeted at pupils in private and government-owned schools, including tertiary institutions. “During the visits, awareness would be created via workshops, books and materials on rape. Also, the highly publicised guide book on rape, Breaking the Silence, will be distributed free- of-charge to the students,” the artiste revealed.

Speaking on this development, the author of Breaking the Silence, Esther Ijewere-Kalejaye, said: “The handbook will educate and sensitise the society on sexual abuse, the importance of reporting rape cases, where to get help, who to talk to, help lines to call and other vital information on rape and sexual abuse. The book is a ‘must-have’ for everyone: parents, guardians, teachers and students (secondary schools and tertiary institutions). I welcome this great initiative by Solidstar.”
