Yayi’s support group to hold meetings in 20 Ogun LGAs

A Socio-Political group backing the governorship aspiration of Senator Solomon Adeola popularly called Yayi in 2027 is set to commence town hall meetings in 20 local government areas of Ogun State in October.

The logo of the town hall meeting will also be unveiled, according to a statement signed and made available to journalists on Thursday by the Director General of the Visionaries, Hon. Leye Odunjo.

He explained that in pursuit of the group’s pro-people leadership to enhance the welfare of the people of Ogun State, the Ogun Visionaries unveiled the Sen. Solomon Adeola Yayi Town Hall Meetings’ logo.

Odunjo said: “The town hall meetings are scheduled to take place in the three senatorial districts and 20 local government areas of Ogun State, with the inaugural edition set to hold in Ogun West Senatorial District in October 2025. The theme is ‘Yayi 2027: Making a Case for Ogun State’s Unity and Prosperity’.”

”These meetings will draw upon the expertise of speakers and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, including young leaders, women leaders, business owners, investment experts, opinion shapers, traditional leaders, economists, and politicians, as they convene to discuss Ogun State’s progress, unity, and prosperity.”

Odunjo explained that the colours on the logo (green and orange) signify unity – the state of being united or combined into one, as of the parts of a whole, noting that it is also a graphical representation of their unity in diversity and various human and natural resources deposited in their land.

“The Ogun Visionaries, being a progressive group for change, will be supporting and mobilizing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. We have no doubt about his pro-people leadership and policies that are setting Nigeria back on the right track; for us, it is APC top to bottom,” he said.

“It is no longer news that the people of Ogun State are calling on Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola Yayi to step forward and avail himself for service as the Governor of Ogun State in 2027.

Consequently, against this backdrop, the Ogun Visionaries is hosting a groundbreaking town hall meeting, where stakeholders will engage with the electorate and solicit feedback on the expectations of those entrusted with the responsibility of advancing Ogun State to the next level.

“The very essence of leadership is that you must have a vision – the vision to make life better for all. However, true leadership is about striving to become better in all areas of life and empowering everyone around you to become the best versions of themselves. A land so blessed is in need of a transformational leader. It’s time to have our dear State at the forefront of regional development, and Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi will lead,” he added.

On Solomon Adeola’s surprise birthday soiree

Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi, who represents Ogun West in the 10th Senate, is not merely a fortuitous addition to his constituency, he is a remarkable figure revered by his people, embodying the hope and promise they have long awaited. Since assuming office, his transformative impact on the previously underrepresented senatorial district has been profound. Despite some ongoing controversies regarding his identity, the consensus among his supporters is that his roots lie firmly in Pahayi, Yewa, where he has been honored with the title of Aremo of Yewa Land by the Olu of Ilaro.

While there is ongoing debate about his choice to embrace his ancestral home over his established political base in Alimosho, Lagos—where he had a significant career, Yayi’s transition to Ogun State has markedly disrupted the long-standing marginalization of its people. His tenure has opened new avenues for progress and engagement in the state’s governance, and as Ogun West steps into a brighter future, the importance of his contributions cannot be overstated. He has actively reshaped the political landscape, effectively delivering on promises of developmental projects that embody the principles of democracy.

As senator for Ogun West, Yayi has spearheaded numerous initiatives, facilitating the development of critical infrastructure and making previously inaccessible roads navigable. His efforts have attracted investments and projects valued in the billions, raising questions about the potential transformation of his constituency by the end of his term. Moreover, his empowerment programs have been noteworthy, characterized by immense generosity that has significantly enhanced financial independence among his constituents. His commitment to their welfare has earned him the reputation of a political dynamo, reshaping the discourse around Ogun politics with a relentless dedication to his people’s needs.

As his birthday approaches this year, his constituents have taken a unique turn in expressing their gratitude. They have persuaded the Senate Chairman in Appropriations to forgo the usual lavish abroad celebrations. Instead, they have initiated a community-driven campaign, raising significant funds, reportedly over a hundred million naira, from influential figures within the district to organize a grand birthday celebration for him. This gesture underscores their appreciation for how he has alleviated their burdens in just two years of representation.

“This year, Senator Adeola’s constituents have made it clear that they wish to honor him in a big way,” a source close to the planning revealed. “It’s going to be more than just a birthday; it’s like a carnival that embodies our gratitude for him as an outstanding representative.” They emphasize that his efforts, including sponsoring the upgrade of the Polytechnic of Ilaro to a Federal University, have been pivotal. As they come together to celebrate, they articulate one sentiment: “Years of hardship have been met with rewards, thanks to Yayi’s leadership.” Such a man indeed deserves to be celebrated for his remarkable contributions and unwavering commitment to the advancement of Ogun West.

Odunjo said: “Just a few days ago the official unveiling of the Visionaries was done at the Iwe Iroyin Press Center, there we have our members from all parts of the State who were convinced with the mission and vision of the Organization which are fairness, justice and equity. I must make it clear that many members of this group have occupied various political positions in the past.

“We have contributed and are still contributing to the development of the State and Nigeria in general. “The Visionaries as the name implies has men, women, young, old, men and women of visions. Technocrats, politicians even Students. • Budget padding accusation against legislature creates confusion, says Adeola

Budget padding accusation against legislature creates confusion, says Adeola

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Solomon Adeola, has said reports that portray the legislature as engaging in budget padding and illegal contract insertions confuse the populace.

He said the nation’s budget is not just numbers but a policy document targeted at serving the interests and holistically ensuring the well-being of Nigerians.

Delivering a lecture at the weekend on the topic: The Role of Legislature in Shaping a Holistic Budget for Nigeria, at the second annual retreat of the Remo Traditional Council in Sagamu, Senator Adeola recalled that since 1999, there have been many misconceptions about the role of the legislature in the budget process.

The senator representing Ogun West stressed that such terms as budget padding, insertions and constituency projects” were used derogatorily to seemingly cast aspersions on the legislature for no just cause.

“There is a lot of misinformation and sometimes outright falsehood out there on the issue of budget in Nigeria. The legislature is often wrongly portrayed as the villain in our budgeting process. Accusations relating to the budget, like ‘budget padding’, ‘insertions’ and ‘constituency projects’ are regularly thrown around in the media against the legislature, creating confusion and casting aspersions on parliamentarians among citizens,” he said.

Adeola took the 40 traditional rulers of Remo land that attended the retreat through the nitty-gritty of the budget process in Nigeria.

The committee chairman said the legal foundation of the National Assembly for the Budget could be found in sections 80 to 84 of the 1999 Constitution, which gives the National Assembly the sole power of appropriation over public funds.

According to him, the power means that before any kobo is spent from the national treasury, it must first be approved by the National Assembly.

“The legislature must ensure that no part of the country is neglected. And let us note that the needs of each area of Nigeria in terms of development are multi-faceted and diverse. This is why each senator and member of the House of Representatives is expected to make inputs based on the needs of their constituents and constituencies for possible inclusion in the budget.

“If successful, this is not budget padding or insertions but using legislative power for the interest of the people,” he said.

Adeola explained that what is regarded as budget “padding or insertion”  and sold to the public as bad over the years are legislative interventions in the budgetary process, without which some areas of the country would not have any “federal presence” or development.

The Ogun West senator noted that in a democracy, constituency projects of an agreed sum of money for each legislator are included in the budget for each federal constituency and senatorial district.

He said such projects are then domiciled in various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the Executive for implementation.

Adeola stressed that these should not be described as padding or insertions.

The committee chairman said, unlike what is presented to the public, no single kobo is given to any legislator for the execution of constituency projects.

He emphasized that the procurement and execution of the projects lie squarely with the MDAs.

Senator Adeola, who took a break from the two-day Southwest Zonal Constitution Amendment Public Hearing to deliver the lecture, promised to support the creation of a constitutional role for traditional rulers across the country.

He noted that traditional rulers play a critical role in good governance, peace-building, security, and community development.

Adeola: Nigerian budget is a policy tool, not just numbers

Senator Solomon Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, has emphasised that Nigeria’s national budget goes beyond figures; it is a strategic policy document aimed at enhancing the welfare and development of all Nigerians.

Speaking in Sagamu, Ogun State, over the weekend during a lecture titled “The Role of Legislature in Shaping a Holistic Budget for Nigeria” at the second annual retreat of the Remo Traditional Council, Adeola said the legislature has a constitutional responsibility to ensure equitable distribution of national resources.

He noted that this duty compels lawmakers to reflect the needs of their constituents in the budgeting process.

“Each senator and House of Representatives member is expected to make inputs based on the needs of their constituencies for possible inclusion in the budget,” he stated. “This is not budget padding or insertion, but the exercise of legislative powers in the interest of the people.”

Adeola lamented the widespread misconceptions around legislative input in the budgeting process, citing terms like “budget padding,” “insertions,” and “constituency projects” as derogatory and misleading. “The legislature is often wrongly portrayed as the villain. These accusations are mostly based on misinformation or outright falsehood,” he said.

He explained that Sections 80 to 84 of the 1999 Constitution provide the legal framework for the National Assembly’s role in budget appropriation, giving it sole authority to approve the disbursement of public funds.

On constituency projects, Adeola clarified that funds are not handed over to legislators but are implemented by relevant ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) of the executive arm.

“These projects ensure federal presence in many communities. They are essential to delivering dividends of democracy,” he added.

Taking a break from the South West Zonal Constitution Amendment Public Hearing to attend the event, Senator Adeola also pledged his support for granting traditional rulers constitutional roles, recognising their importance in governance, peacebuilding, security, and grassroots development.

Earlier, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, thanked the senator for his developmental efforts in Remoland, including the installation of solar-powered streetlights.

He called for the establishment of a federal educational institution in the area and stressed the importance of fair representation in the proposed Ijebu State.

  • Tinubu’s reforms attracted over $40b foreign investment, says Adeola

Tinubu’s reforms attracted over $40b foreign investment, says Adeola

Chairman, Senate  Committee on Appropriations, Senator Solomon Adeola (APC – Ogun West) yesterday, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms in the last two years, has attracted over $40million foreign investments into the economy.

He applauded President Tinubu for signing into law four landmark tax reform bills.

The President last Thursday signed four Tax Reform Bills passed by the National Assembly into law.

They include: The Nigeria Tax Act, Nigeria Tax Administration Act, Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Act. The tax laws are expected to take effect from January 1, 2026.

He said the laws are geared towards transforming Nigeria’s fiscal landscape, eliminate burdensome taxes imposed on vulnerable Nigerians, reduce tax compliance complexities, foster domestic productivity and help position the country as the destination of choice for foreign direct investments.

In a statement by his Media Adviser, Kayode Odunaro, in Abuja, Adeola, a public finance and tax expert, also commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for the thorough scrutiny and passage of the four tax reform bills.

He urged well-meaning Nigerians to support the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President and the full implementation of the historic tax laws that promise the maximization of peoples’ welfare and economic prosperity for all.

Adeola said: “The signs of Nigeria’s economic recovery under President Tinubu’s leadership are clear and measurable. GDP growth rebounded to 3.86 per cent, the fastest in three years, while national revenue rose to N21.6 trillion from N12.37 trillion, reflecting stronger fiscal performance.

“The budget deficit dropped from 6.2 per cent in 2023 to 4.17 per cent in 2025 and forex reforms have restored investor confidence and stabilized markets.

“Inflation is declining, the Naira has stabilized and the dual exchange rate regime has been abolished, creating transparency and attracting over $40 billion in foreign investment.

“Non-oil exports have grown by nearly 40 per cent and Nigeria recorded a N18trillion trade surplus,”

He added that the National Assembly acted as the people’s parliament when controversy arose on certain provisions in the tax reform bills by engaging critical stakeholders and concerned members of the public through robust consultations, public hearings, and expert reviews.

Adeola said: “This participatory process ensured that the final legislation reflects the collective interest of Nigerians, striking a balance between fiscal sustainability, equity, economic growth and social welfare that aligns fully with the vision and values of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.”

Senator Adeola, who is also a member of the Senate Finance Committee that midwifed the laws,  said with the enactment of these four transformative tax laws – Nigeria Tax Act, Nigeria Tax Administration Act, Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act and Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Act –, the President has demonstrated yet again, purposeful leadership and political will to initiate and see through critical reforms required to promote inclusive growth and economic development in Nigeria.

“In specific terms, the Nigeria Tax Act will provide a unified fiscal legislation governing taxation in Nigeria, while reducing tax duplication and multiplicity in order to simplify tax compliance for individuals and businesses.

“The Nigeria Tax Administration Act will provide uniform procedures for consistent and efficient administration of tax laws in order to facilitate compliance by taxpayers and optimization of tax revenue,” he said.

According to him, the Nigeria Revenue Service, (Establishment) Act which replaced the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) with the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), expanded the mandate of the revenue agency to include optimizing government revenues from tax and non-tax sources.

He added that the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Act set up the Joint Revenue Board to harmonize and coordinate revenue administration in Nigeria as well as provided the legal framework for the operations of Tax Appeal Tribunals and introduced the Office of the Tax Ombudsman for protection of taxpayers’ rights.

“Importantly, it is worthy to mention that these reforms will deliver tangible and far-reaching benefits to ordinary Nigerians.

“Key among these is the zero-rating of VAT on essential goods and services such as basic food items, education, healthcare, sanitary products and locally manufactured pharmaceuticals, making them more accessible and affordable for the general population.

“In addition, individuals earning N800,000 or less annually are now fully exempt from personal income tax, thereby easing the financial burden on low-income earners and boosting their disposable income,” he said.

Among other benefits of the tax reforms laws, according to Adeola, is the fact that small businesses and start-ups would gain significantly through higher turnover thresholds for tax exemptions, streamlined registration and filing processes and protection against multiple taxation across federal, state and local levels, while rural and under-served communities are expected to benefit from better allocation of tax revenues towards critical infrastructure and public services such as schools, health centres, and rural roads.

  • Yayi: Beyond the Ojude Oba exclusion

Yayi: Beyond the Ojude Oba exclusion

    By Kunle Somorin

The recent exclusion of Senator Solomon Adeola from chairing the 2025 Ojude Oba Festival is a calculated political move that speaks volumes beyond the immediate event itself. It is a manifestation of power struggle, a testament to the ever-dynamic interplay of influence, ambition, and resistance within the complex theatre of Ogun State politics. Beneath the veneer of tradition and palace deliberations lies an orchestrated manoeuvre, designed to curb the momentum of a man whose political trajectory threatens to upend existing power structures.

The Ojude Oba Festival, with its grand confluence of people, tradition, and authority, provides a potent platform for the subliminal endorsement of leadership. To have Adeola preside over the event would have been to reinforce his acceptability, to confirm his place in the consciousness of the people as the natural choice for the state’s future. It was a moment his detractors could not afford, for they understood all too well that political ascendancy often begins with perception.

Adeola’s emergence at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s residence shortly thereafter stands as the ultimate repudiation of the strategy deployed against him. In stepping into the nucleus of national political power, he has reinforced the notion that his relevance is dictated by forces far beyond the provincial calculations of Ogun State politics. His presence alongside Tinubu is not a moment of mere social engagement; it is an assertion, a declaration that his political future remains untouched by the manoeuvrings of a threatened few.

The implications of this re-emergence are profound. Firstly, it solidifies his standing within the hierarchy of power, affirming that his trajectory is shaped at the highest levels of governance rather than by the machinations of local operatives. While his adversaries sought to diminish his presence within Ogun State, his presence in Tinubu’s inner circle demonstrates that his influence extends far beyond the boundaries of regional contestation.

In Nigerian politics, proximity to power is as consequential as policy itself, and Adeola’s positioning within the presidency’s orbit speaks volumes about his enduring relevance. Secondly, this episode dismantles any perception of political diminishment. For all the effort invested in excluding him from Ojude Oba, the conversation surrounding his gubernatorial viability has only intensified, fuelled in part by the very forces that sought to silence him.

Adeola’s appearance at Tinubu’s residence serves as a counterweight, obliterating the illusion of marginalisation and asserting instead that his trajectory is beyond the confines of localised resistance. Those who sought to obscure his visibility have inadvertently amplified it, ensuring that his name remains dominant in discussions of Ogun State’s political future.

Thirdly, the re-emergence underscores the futility of attempting to regulate the rise of political figures through exclusionary tactics. The power calculus within Nigerian politics is complex, governed not merely by local contestations but by overarching strategic alliances that dictate outcomes far beyond immediate appearances.

Adeola’s ability to recalibrate his positioning within the space of two hours demonstrates a political dexterity that is invaluable in contests of this nature. His detractors, in seeking to dictate his fortunes through restrictive measures, have been confronted with the reality that genuine political resilience is impervious to transient obstruction.

In truth, Senator Solomon Adeola’s exclusion from chairing the Ojude Oba Festival has ultimately served to amplify his political presence and reinforce his position as a leading figure in Ogun State politics. The attempt to undermine his momentum has instead galvanized his supporters and highlighted the organic support he commands among various constituencies.

As Ogun State looks to the future, it is clear that Adeola’s trajectory is shaped by forces beyond the control of local operatives. His emergence at President Tinubu’s residence underscores his national relevance and solidifies his standing within the hierarchy of power. The lessons from this episode are clear: attempts to suppress a political force often result in the opposite effect, fortifying rather than diminishing its relevance.

Adeola’s resilience and determination have demonstrated that his political strength is undeniable, and his trajectory is unalterable. As the state prepares for its next political transition, one thing is certain: Senator Solomon Adeola will be a dominant force in the conversation. His exclusion from Ojude Oba has become a moment of unintended validation, and his presence will continue to shape the political landscape of Ogun State for years to come.
