  • We’ll find solution to Warri crisis, says Uduaghan

Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has vowed to find a solution to the crisis in Warri North Local Government in which 13 persons were killed and eight Itsekiri communities destroyed.

He said the perpetrators would be punished.

Uduaghan made the promise on Tuesday when he visited Obaghoro, Eghoro, Tebu, Gbokoda and other communities razed by the rampaging gunmen who operated under the cover of the Egbema Radical Group (ERG).

The governor’s visit came against the backdrop of report that some politicians were working to provide a soft landing for ERG members, to the chagrin of some Itsekiri leaders and victims.

It was, however, gathered that some Itsekiri politicians were working with their Ijaw counterparts towards providing “amnesty” for the killers and those implicated in the discreet investigation by the Joint Task Force (JTF).

The members of the gang, who are holed up around Ogbudugbudu, an Ijaw community, are said to have reached out to JTF officials in their desire for a soft landing, according to a report in a national daily.

A source said: “It is surprising that some persons are contemplating this nonsense even when dozens of persons have been thrown into mourning, poverty and hardship as a result of these attacks.

“Those behind the amnesty for these killers are hoping to use the incident to launch themselves into the good books of the armed gangs in the area as well as shore up support towards the forthcoming local government election.”

But Uduaghan said: “We will not pretend about what has happened; the incident is an unfortunate one; we never expected it to happen again after what we have been through a few years ago.

“But since it has happened, we are determined to look into the deeper issues, which led to it and address it properly for it not to recur.

“Government will find out the extent of damage, but I want to implore all of us to remain peaceful…”

  • Hope of divine solution not lost in Nigeria

Hope of divine solution not lost in Nigeria

Despite the current challenges Nigeria is facing, like threats to security, social injustice, youth unemployment, political killings, labour-unrest, bombing, among others, there is hope and Nigerians should not lose hope of divine solution.

Nigerians-at-large should pray to God to redeem and deliver our country, for, only God could redeem the nation from the present fear of insecurity and poverty in the land. Only God could heal our wounds, so that that could be peace.

Prophetically, I want to assure Nigerians, that, with the prayers of the saints, at the soonest, all-will-be-well, as God is ready to intervene and heal our land, if we humble ourselves and fear God.

With the potentials available in the country, if we repent our sins and do the will of God, from the leaders to the followers, there is hope for Nigeria and Nigerians in all spheres. There is also greater tomorrow for Nigeria, if we pray fervently and put all hands on deck, to move the nation forward.

Nigeria had faced many difficult situations in the past, but God had always proved to be faithful. As the problems facing Nigeria currently are big, God will come to our rescue once, we keep relying on Him.

The current security challenges in the nation could be attributed to high level of corruption and bad governance on the part of the leaders. Since government is not to trust again, the people had lost the trust in those holding offices in government, while poverty, unemployment, insecurity, among others, is on the rise.

Nigeria now desire, political leaders that will turn our bad situations to better, and whose primary concerns are to build institutions and empower the people.

  • Bids for CBN’s Disaster Recovery Solution open

Bids for CBN’s Disaster Recovery Solution open

Bids for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Information Technology (IT) Disaster Recovery Solution (DRS) needed for its operations are open for vendors.

In a statement on its website, the apex bank said vendors expected to handle the project should have certified knowledge and verifiable capacity and experience in the data centre industry.

The apex bank said it is retrofitting its data centres in its head office and two other locations to achieve high availability and true disaster recovery capability that will enhance its operations.

The regulator said it is seeking to design, implement and inaugurate an information technology disaster recovery solution and has invited sealed bids from bidders for he project.

It has also requested that experts submit tenders for the design, implementation and inauration of IT DRS for its operations.

The CBN said it has deployed IT infrastructure and enterprise applications to support its core business processes and enable delivery of its strategic objectives, to fulfill its vision of being the best among the world’s central banks.

The statement explained that the CBN occupies a central position in the economic and social development of the country, adding that it has embarked on a technology refresh project to modernise its IT infrastructure base, saying it secured a $510,000 grant from the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) for the establishment of a DRC. The centre is expected to assist the apex bank to fortify and protect e-payment transactions in the country.

It said the grant will be used to finance qualified US firms to provide expert consulting services in determining the technical requirements, business and operational models for the project.

Already, a vendor has been evaluated and selected by the CBN, which has also received a ‘letter of no objection’ from USTDA. Besides, he said the legal unit of the CBN is already drafting a contract agreement that will be reviewed and binding on both parties.

He explained that the banking watchdog is also developing modalities or work plan for implementation of shared tier-three Disaster Recovery Centre infrastructure and services. The apex bank is also working on shared power infrastructure service to the banks and developing the Nigeria Financial services network (NFSN) to achieve these objectives.

“The CBN is also setting up IT Standards Board and requisite governance framework to oversee the administration of IT standards in the industry and drive its adoption across the players in the industry. We understand that payment is the key driver of cost distribution in the industry and accounts for almost 60 per cent of the industry cost base,” it said.

It said the CBN having monitored the partial implementation of the cash-less policy and following stakeholder engagement on the effective implementation of the project, decided to reassess its parameters to allow for smooth transition and adoption.

  • Buhari-Tinubu ticket solution to Nigeria’s problems, says ACN chieftain

Buhari-Tinubu ticket solution to Nigeria’s problems, says ACN chieftain

A chieftain of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Kano State, Dr. Baffa Baba Dan-Agundi, has provided a solution to the leadership problem in Nigeria.

He urged the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the last general election and two-time presidential candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), General Muhammadu Buhari and the National Leader of the ACN, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to team up and rescue the country from the clutches of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) misrule.

Dan-Agundi, a former legal adviser to the ANPP but now an ACN member, told our reporter in Kano yesterday that the former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Tinubu and General Buhari are the messiahs to salvage the country.

He said for Nigerians to experience development and transformation, the duo must forget their political differences and unite to save the country from the mal-administration of the ruling party.

Dan-Agundi, a former sole administrator of the Kano Municipal Local Government and a House of Assembly aspirant on the platform of the ACN, noted that only a merger between the ACN and CPC can unseat the PDP, adding that the solution to Nigeria’s problems lies in the hands of Tinubu and Buhari.

He said: “The only person the masses in the North respect and believe in is General Buhari. Just like Tinubu is the only person people in the Southwest believe in and respect. So the ticket of the two politicians will be excellent for Nigeria. It is the only way to unseat the PDP.

“What I want them to do is to prevent anybody from interfering in their differences because Buhari is the leader of the CPC, while the leader of the ACN is Tinubu. The merger talks should be between the two political bigwigs.”

Dr. Dan-Agundi suggested that a rotational system between the duo should be adopted whereby Buhari would contest as the presidential candidate, while Tinubu would be his running mate, and at the end of his tenure, it would be the turn of Tinubu. He noted that there should be a written agreement to avoid betrayal of trust.

“If Buhari is not willing to contest the presidential election, let him tell the entire world, because from all indications, the majority of Nigerians believe in Tinubu because he can be entrusted with the leadership of the country. He did well in Lagos, which Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola is building on,” Dan-Agundi said.

According to him, some people view the ACN as a regional party, “but to be candid, it is not, as Tinubu unconditionally financed our campaign as Northerners. He has done a lot for us by sponsoring the ACN candidates in the North.

“For example, I am not a Yoruba, but Tinubu has done a lot for me. Nobody can equal what he has done for me. ACN is not a regional party as far as I am concerned. If we have different views, we can have different platforms, just as we can agree and disagree. It’s all politics.”
