Somolu LG chief presents N10.7b budget to legislature

The chairman of Somolu Local Government Hon. Abdul-Hammed Salawu has presented the sum of N10,713,312,500.00 budget for 2025 to the Legislative Arm of Somolu LG for consideration.

Speaking during the presentation of the appropriation bill, Salawu said the huge sum being presented this year for appropriation as against last year was due to ”the handsome amount of money the Federal Government was sending to the local government to carry out developmental projects. This is meant to impact the lives of the people at the grassroots.”

Expatiating further, Salawu said: ” The approval you(lawmakers) gave us last year brought tangible dividends of democracy to the good people of Somolu Local Government across all sectors. I vividly recall your oversight functions and project assessment tours to our various project sites. Your verdict aligned with the views of the majority of our residents, who stated that we have performed beyond expectations.

”In compliance with the directives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu, we put machinery in motion to cushion the effects of the Fuel subsidy removal, by intensifying efforts in the following humanitarian areas:  1. Monthly Welfare Support for the elderly, business support for petty traders, food palliatives for the vulnerable. ₦160 million cash intervention benefiting 5,000 residents and youth–based programme on ICT and technology skills development.

”This sum(N10.7bn) would care for staff salaries, primary school teachers’ salaries, salaries of political office holders, severance allowance, capital projects, salaries and allowances of traditional rulers, and others.

Salawu urged speedy consideration and approval of the budget ”to consolidate on the  impactful projects  to the people of Somolu; which includes the completion of the new Somolu Local Government Administrative Complex, Somolu Fire Service Station, Bashua Police Station, Wright Primary Healthcare Center, and Wesley Primary School, among others.”

Responding, the Leader of the legislative arm of the council area, Yomi Osundare promised that the House would scrutiny the Bill and make necessary recommendations without any delay.
