I have never denied Davido access to Imade – Sophia Momodu

Sophia Momodu, first baby mama of Afrobeats superstar Davido, has addressed a series of online posts targeted at her daughter, Imade Adeleke, describing it as deliberate falsehoods about the child’s well-being.

In a detailed post on Snapchat, Sophia explained that she has never denied her 10-year-old access to her father, adding that she prioritised her safety and structured schedules.

She stated that Imade is a happy, healthy, and well-rounded child, and anyone who has met her in person can confirm this.

According to her, she has been Imade’s primary caregiver for the past five years and has personally covered nearly all of the child’s expenses.

She added that the only exception has been school fees, which Davido’s father, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, has covered for the last three years.

She claimed that she has never received formal child support from Davido, yet Imade lacks nothing and is growing up in a stable, loving environment.

Sophia also revealed that she recently waived all outstanding child support payments and relinquished any future claims, taking on complete financial responsibility for Imade.

She wrote: “Social media has become an integral part of our lives, and unfortunately, it has also become a platform for spreading false narratives. On a recent Sunday morning, I woke up to numerous posts that were intentionally targeted at my lovely daughter and trying to portray a false image of her well being. As a fiercely protective mother, my initial reaction was emotional, but I knew that I had to stand up for my child.

“It’s important to note that my daughter is a happy, healthy, and well rounded child. Anyone who has met her in person can attest to this.

“To further emphasize my commitment to my daughter’s well being, I have been her primary caregiver for the past five years. I have handled all of her expenses except for school fees, which her paternal grandparent has kindly covered for the past three years. I have not received child support from her father, but our child knows no lack. She is growing in a healthy environment and is very happy.

“In an effort to reaffirm my commitment to her happiness, I recently waived all outstanding child support payments and relinquished future claims. This decision has left me fully responsible for our child’s financial needs, which is a welcomed development by both parties.

“Family is important to me, and I believe that it’s essential for my child to have a relationship with both parents. Just as I had with my late father, who I had cherished memories of, I have never denied her father access or a relationship. Instead, I prioritize her safety and structured schedules.

“I am grateful that my daughter has a loving relationship with both parents.

“Moving forward, I kindly request that my innocent child be left out of false narratives and stories. Let’s channel our energy towards things that are more profitable and healthy”.

However, Davido has not issued any public response to the post.

“You people have been doing this false narrative thing for over 10 years now. And while I try to be as graceful as I can, I’m also a very protective mother. Say whatever you want about me, it’s ok. But leave my child alone. This is non-negotiable. Imade is not a bargaining chip for her mother to conform.”

Sophia also threatened legal action against those responsible for spreading fake news about her child.

This comes after Imade was absent during Davido’s 33rd birthday, which took place in Atlanta with family and friends, including his daughter from another baby mama, Hailey.

Rapper and OAP, N6, has criticized Sophia Momodu, Davido’s first baby mama, over a leaked conversation with Davido’s father, Adedeji Adeleke.

In the leaked WhatsApp chat, Sophia allegedly rejected Davido’s father’s request for Imade to spend Christmas with them, demanding two months’ notice and fulfillment of Davido’s commitments.

N6 slammed Sophia for her demands, pointing out her perceived hypocrisy in spending N25 million on a luxury apartment while requesting a Range Rover from Davido.

He suggested she could afford a N15 million car and a N10 million per year house.

N6 praised Davido’s father for his compassionate response, which he felt didn’t deserve Sophia’s reply.

“You are telling your daughter’s 67-year-old grandfather to be giving you 2 months’ notice before you can allow her to attend his Yearly Christmas party. Omo.

“Uncle Deji is a gentleman to his last bone marrow. His message was so loving, heartwarming, and empathetic; it did not deserve her reply at all.

“You pay N25 Million a year for your luxury apartment but need a Range Rover from your baby daddy because you don’t have a car. The Range was always so bad, so you had to rent a jeep for a month to take your child to school. Why not move to a N10m a year crib and buy a N15m car?”, N6 wrote on X.

I refused to be Davido’s sex slave – Sophia Momodu

Sophia Momodu, mother of David Adeleke’s daughter, has told a Lagos State High Court sitting in Sabo, Yaba, not to grant  the child’s custody to the musician.

Momodu told the court on Friday that the  applicant was not fit to be granted custody of their daughter because he is always not available and does not possess the ability to dutifully care for her.

She stated this in a counter-affidavit she filed in opposition to Davido’s suit seeking custody.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that contrary to Davido’s claim that he had consistently fulfilled his financial obligations toward his daughter, Momodu told the court that the child was almost sent away from school  because the artiste refused to pay her tuition fees.

According to her, while their relationship lasted, Davido never showed true commitment or love toward their daughter.

“He always used the condition of my making myself available for his sexual pleasures,  as a pre-condition to visit our daughter or show some fatherly love to her.

“The applicant apart from his cravings for sex only comes around to spend time with our daughter when he wants to use our daughter for his media stunts or promotions.

“The applicant has always been known to go away and stop communicating with our daughter, to stop making payment for school fees and/or payment of maintenance for our daughter, whenever I refused his sexual advances,” she  stated.

The respondent stated that Davido once threw her and their daughter out of his home in Atlanta, US during a summer holiday in 2017 and they ended up squatting with a friend.

Momodu stated that she never denied Davido access to his daughter and that it was he, who chose to be “an absentee father.”

She added she had been responsible for her accommodation and that the artiste  had always had access to their daughter until he chose to abuse it by visiting at odd hours to demand sex.

“When I noticed that the intention of the applicant for coming late at night to my house was not to visit our daughter, but to seek sexual favours, even after our relationship had ended, I told him to desist from such late-night visits, as our daughter who needed to be in school in the morning would have slept at the time of his late-night visits.

“It was when I refused the applicant’s ingress into my house at ungodly hours of the night on the pretext of visiting our daughter that he decided to stop visiting or calling our daughter and this has been the pattern with the applicant all through his relationship with our daughter.

“Whenever I refused to be his sex slave, he would stop caring for his daughter and abandon her and use the fact of our daughter’s sadness due to his absence to force me to accede to his unwholesome demands.

“I have never stopped the applicant or his family members from coming to visit his daughter, calling or reconnecting with our daughter,” she stated.

The respondent again stated that contrary to Davido’s claim, he has not been faithful in paying their daughter’s school fees, having defaulted in 2021 and 2022 with the school writing to her in January 2023, over unpaid tuition.

“The school wrote via email notifying me that our daughter will not be allowed entry into the school, except all outstanding fees from 2021 to 2023,  were paid off,” she said.

Momodu told the court that it was Davido’s father who intervened and paid the school fees.

She stated that contrary to Davido’s claim, she has been the one paying the rent of the apartment where she lives with her daughter, adding that Davido did not buy any house for them.

Momodu said she has been providing the best care for her daughter, in spite of her father’s negligence and will continue to do so, as a loving mother.

The respondent was represented at Friday’s proceedings before Justice A. J. Bashua, by a legal team led by Chief (Dr) Anthony Idigbe (SAN) of Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors.

Chief Idigbe drew attention to the publication of a hearing notice in a national newspaper by Davido’s legal team, in which the name of his daughter was mentioned four times.
The judge agreed with Chief Idigbe that while the press were free to report, the child’s name ought not to the mentioned at all.

The judge then asked members of the press, litigants and all other counsel not involved in the case, to leave the courtroom during the hearing.

Before they left, Chief Idigbe, with the court’s permission, drew the the attention of members of the press to Section 143 of the Child’s Right Law of Lagos State 2015.

It provides that in a case involving a minor: “No person must be allowed to attend court, other than the members and officers of the court and the parties to the case.

It also provides that their solicitors and counsel, parents and guardians of the child and other persons directly concerned in the case were free to be allowed in.”

Chief Idigbe also referred to Section 144 of the Law, which prohibits the publication of a child’s name.

The section reads: “No person must publish the name, address, school, photograph, or anything likely to lead to the identification of a child in a matter before the court, except as required by the provisions of this law.”

The SAN further referred to Section 145 of the Child Rights Law, which provides: “The proceedings in the court must be conducive to the best interest of the child and must be conducted in an atmosphere of understanding, allowing the child to express himself and participate in the proceedings.”

Momodu, in the counter-affidavit, also faulted the publication of the suit in a national newspaper.

“The applicant (Davido) in publishing this suit in a national newspaper has exposed our daughter to great danger.

“I would have to implement extra security measures to ensure the continued safety of our daughter in school,” she stated.

At the end of the proceedings, it was learnt that the court referred the case for possible settlement by the Alternative Dispute Resolution section of the court during Settlement Week.

Davido lost his son, our daughter not safe with him – Sophia Momodu

Davido’s first baby mama, Sophia Momodu, in a 102-paragraph counter affidavit, has outlined reasons why she opposes Davido’s request for joint custody of their daughter, Imade.

She claimed that Davido’s career requires frequent travel, making him unavailable to care for Imade at crucial times.

She added that Davido is married and lives with another woman, which could compromise Imade’s proper upbringing.

Momodu also referenced the tragic death of Davido’s son, Ifeanyi, at his home, questioning his ability to ensure Imade’s safety.

She asserted that Davido is unfit for custody due to his unavailability and lack of ability to care for Imade duly.

The affidavit reveals a tumultuous relationship history, with Momodu alleging that Davido used their daughter’s maintenance as leverage to maintain their s3xual relationship despite her attempts to break up due to his infidelity.

The statement wrote: “The Applicant is an artist who always travels around the world as mandated by his career and cannot possibly be with our daughter at crucial times.

“The Applicant is married to another woman, and they live together. The proper upbringing of our daughter by another cannot be guaranteed.

“The fact that the Applicant lost his son in his house in rather unfortunate and questionable circumstances shows that our daughter cannot be placed in the custody of the Applicant.”

According to her, throughout the checkered history of their relationship, she had always attempted to break up with the Applicant as “I was tired of his lies and unfaithfulness, but he always used the withdrawal of his fatherly duties and maintenance for our daughter as a pawn to force me to resume the s3xual relationship with him.”
