  • Police arrest two suspects over alleged murder of woman in Enugu

    Police Command in Enugu State has arrested two suspects over the murder of one Maria Amadi at the Federal Housing in Trans-Ekulu in Enugu.

    The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement in Enugu on Monday that the incident happened on March 21.

    Amaraizu said the suspected killers, who were operating on a navy blue vehicle, allegedly shot at the victim severally as she was gaining access into her compound and left her unconscious before they escaped.

    He said that the victim was subsequently rushed to the Enugu State Teaching Hospital, (ESUTH) for medical attention but was confirmed dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.

    He added that on receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Sulaiman Balarabe directed the Criminal Investigations Department of the command to commence full-scale investigations into the incident.

    The spokesperson said the investigation so far led to the arrest of two vital suspects in connection with the killing.

    Amaraizu said the suspects were now helping the operatives in their investigations.

    He said that the commissioner of police had initiated a manhunt on the remaining fleeing suspects. (NAN)

  • Police nab three over alleged highway robbery in Enugu

    The police command in Enugu State has arrested three alleged highway robbers operating along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Road.

    The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement issued on Sunday that the suspects were arrested on Feb. 15 at about 8p.m.

    Amaraizu said the feat was achieved by police operatives of Mbanabo Division who acted on intelligence information.

    He noted that the suspects specialised in planting sharp objects on Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, thereby causing vehicles tyres to be punctured, forcing affected vehicles to stop and rob passengers.

    He said the suspects gave their names as Henry Odogwu of 36 Amechi Road, Awkunanaw; Clement Udo of 28 Odudukoko Street Gariki and Chinweuba Okoye of 17 Chikaogbe Street, Maryland Enugu State.

    According to him, the suspects were nabbed on their way to carry oyt their activities where they were rounded up by the operatives.

    “In their separate reactions, suspects had maintained that it was their friend identified as one Ifeanyi from Agbogugu in Awgu Local Government Area of the state who lured them into the illicit business.

    “The sharp chisel-like objects are usually placed on the road along Ogbaku axis of Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway at night.

    “They said their role was always to come out from the bush to rob occupants of  vehicle which tyres had picked sharp chisel objects placed on the road by the said Ifeanyi,’’ he said.

    Amaraizu said the suspects were regretting their actions and advised youths to know the kind of persons they keep as friends.

    He said this would allow them to avoid being misled into getting involved in criminality.

    He said that the suspects had been helping police operatives in their investigation, while manhunt on other members of the gang had been intensified. (NAN)

  • Man commits suicide after taking marijuana

    The Police Command in Enugu State has commenced investigation into an incident that led to a 24-year-old man committing suicide after an overdose of marijuana.

    The spokesman of the command, SP. Ebere Amaraizu, made the announcement in a statement on Saturday in Enugu.

    He said the incident happened on Aug. 22 at Ameke Village in Enu-Oduma Community in the Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.

    Amaraizu identified the dead man as Ebube Chukwu.

    He said that Chukwu was reported to have committed suicide after taking his usual and hourly wraps of marijuana, popularly called ‘Igbo’.

    “It was gathered that the victim had allegedly committed the act by hanging himself on top of a tree inside a forest at Obokolo, which is between Amorji and Ameke Oduma.

    “It was further gathered that the victim was always in the habit of smoking marijuana, which may have caused the unfortunate incident.’’

    Amaraizu said that investigation had commenced with a view to ascertaining the actual cause of death.

  • Police arrest three suspects over killing of 105-yr-old man

    The Police Command in Enugu State has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged killing of a105-year-old man, Chief Eze Nwah-Onuh, in Igboeze North Local Government Area of the state.

    The command’s spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria  in Enugu on Friday.

    Amarizu gave the names of the suspects as Onyeka Abugu, 22; Ogbonna Eze, 22 and Nnamdi Eze, 19 and said they were already helping the command in its investigation.

    Nwa-Onu of Ekposhi Umuidoko village in Ogurute community was allegedly strangled on Aug. 9.

    The spokesman said the body of the deceased had been deposited in a hospital mortuary.

    “The command through its operatives of the state’s Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (CIID) has commenced investigations into the alleged killing of Chief Eze Nwah-Onuh of Ekposhi Umuidoko village of Ogurute community.

    “It was gathered that on that fateful day the alleged suspects conspired and strangled the deceased over a yet-to-be established issue or issues and escaped.

    “But through intelligence information, the suspects were promptly nabbed,’’ he said.

  • Police investigate alleged murder of man by his brother in Enugu

    The Police in Enugu State are investigating alleged murder of one Chizoba Ogbonna-Izuchukwu, 46, by his brother, Raphael Izuchukwu, 4o, in Igboeze North Local Government area of the state.

    The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ebere Amaraizu, said in Enugu on Wednesday that the incident happened on Aug. 3.

    Amaraizu said that preliminary investigation showed that the suspect confessed to killing his brother and burying him in the early hours of Aug. 3.

    He said that the suspect claimed that deceased had been sick for long and there was no money to continue bearing the costs of his brother’s treatment.

    The spokesman said the police arrested the suspect following a tip off.

    “The sleepy and calm community of Ugwuagbo-Inyi in Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State was thrown into mourning as the news of the killing and burying of a brother by another brother was released to the members of the public.

    “It was gathered that one Raphael Izuchukwu from Ugwuagbo-Inyi community had, on that fateful day, killed his elder brother identified as one Chizoba Ogbonna-Izuchukwu and went ahead to bury him.

    “Full scale investigations have commenced as the suspect is now helping the police in their investigations,’’ he said.

  • Police recruitment: four centers designated for CBT

    The Enugu State Police Command says it has designated four centres for its Computer Based Test (CBT) for new recruits who passed its medical and physical screenings.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari has recently approved the recruitment of 6,000 policemen to beef-up security nationwide test.

    The Command’s spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement on Saturday that candidates should go to their area command and State Command Headquarters, Enugu to confirm their names and examination centres.

     “The command wishes to inform members of the public, particularly those who participated in the just concluded police recruitment screening exercise and were issued with computer print form, that the examination into the force will be conducted on Friday, May 25.

    “The four designated centres included: AFRIHUB ICT Centre – 2, which is located at Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Campus 2 (Independent Layout, Enugu).

    “IMT Learning Management Centre 1.

    “IMT Learning Management Institute Centre 2 (Campus 3 Enugu)

    “Foretrust Digital Consulting Ltd; which is located at Plot 63A, Premier Layout, Ogui-Nike, Enugu,’’ he said.

    The spokesman said that examination in all centres would start at 7 a.m. prompt.

  • Father hacks son to death in Enugu

    The Police in Enugu State have launched a manhunt for one, Onyenwe Offor Ajah, who allegedly hacked his son to death in an Enugu community.

    The police spokesman in the state, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement on Wednesday that the incident occurred on March 28 at Ameke Enu village in Oduma Community of Aninri Local Government Area of the state.

    Amaraizu said the son whom he allegedly killed after a disagreement, had been identified as Kenneth Ajah, 38.

    He said the suspect had a misunderstanding over some yet-to-be established issues with his son, which started at Orie Oduma Market.

    “It was further gathered that following the alleged misunderstanding, there arose a fight between the father and his son, which resulted to the use of an object to hit the victim on his head by the father.

    “The son, however, became unconscious and was rushed to a nearby hospital and was later confirmed dead by a doctor on duty,’’ he said.

    Amaraizu said that the deceased’s body had been deposited at Awgu District General Hospital Mortuary; while a manhunt for the fleeing suspect had been intensified.

    Police investigate alleged killing of man in Enugu

    The Police Command in Enugu State says it has begun investigation into the alleged killing of a middle-aged man after he fought with his neighbour in Amagu Okpanku community in Aninri Local Government Area.

    The Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Enugu.

    Amaraizu said the incident occurred on Feb. 1 at about 2 p.m.

    He said that the deceased identified as Ajah Sampson was confirmed dead after he sustained various injuries from a machete allegedly used on him by his neighbour, Chibuzor Ivoke.

    “It was gathered that on Feb.1, both persons had allegedly engaged themselves in a serious violent fight over a yet-to-be established issue/issues which later left both of them with various degrees of matchete cut on their neck, heads and ears.

    “They were consequently rushed to Afikpo Mater Hospital for medical attention by family members where the doctor on duty later confirmed one of the victims, Sampson Ajah, dead,’’ he said.

    According to the police spokesman, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending conclusion of investigation.
