    Kehinde Fatai’s club advances in Europa League

    Kehinde Fatai’s Czech Republic club Sparta Prague has qualified for the next stage of the UEFA Europa League following a 1-0 win over Asteras Tripolis on Thursday.

    Asteras Tripolis of Greece lies third on four points, africanFootball.com reports.

    Sparta Prague is second in Group K with nine points behind Schalke 04 on 11 points with a round of games to spare.

    Fatai, who has netted twice in Europa League this season, was in action for 80 minutes before he was replaced by Tiemoko Kanote.

    Sparta only goal was scored in the 33rd minute through Jakub Brabec.

    Nigeria’s Ahmed Musa and Kehinde Fatai will come face-to-face in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round after their clubs were drawn against each other on Friday, africanFootball.com reports.

    Both players were born in Jos, Plateau State and started their professional football career with defunct JUTH FC of Jos.

    Musa will lead the attack line of CSKA Moscow against Sparta Prague, whose attack will be spearheaded by Fatai.

    CSKA Moscow will host the first leg in the weekend of 28/29 July, while the second leg  takes place in Prague in the weekend of 4/5 August.

    In other Champions League pairings, Abduljeleel Ajagun’s Panathinaikos Of Greece will slug it out with Belgium’s Club Brugge.

    Kingsley Madu and Rabiu Ibrahim will hope their Slovak club AC Trenčín beat Staeua Bucureşti to set up a clash with winners of the game between FK Partizan and FC Dila Gori.

    Ridwan Hasan and Paul Onuachu of Danish club FC Midtjylland battle Lincoln FC to face either APOEL FC (CYP) or FK Vardar (MKD).

    Sparta Prague sign Kehinde Fatai for 500,000 Euros

    Czech Republic power house Sparta Prague coughed up €500,000 to sign former Nigeria youth international Kehinde Fatai from Astra Giurgiu of Romania, AfricanFootball.com can specially report.

    The Jos-born star was a big hit for Farul Constanta and Astra Giurgiu in Romania.

    The Romanian club turned down a bigger offer for the striker from French club OGC Nice last summer, but with a year left on his contract, they decided to cash in on the player, who has represented Nigeria at U-20 and U-23 levels.

    Before Fatai signed a deal with Sparta Prague, a Turkish club were seriously interested in signing him and even opened line of communication with one of his representatives.

    Super Eagles duo of John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses will on Thursday return to the Europa League stage for Chelsea in the round of 32 second leg encounter against Czech Republic side, Sparta Prague.

    Futaa.com reports that both players were left out of the squad that executed the first leg encounter away from home having just returned from a victorious outing at the 2013 African Nations Cup with Nigeria.

    While Moses was recalled into the squad that defeated Brentford in the FA Cup last Sunday, Mikel missed the tie but both players are fully rested and are available for selection on Thursday.
