    THE All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Abia State, Dr. Uche Ogah has said that the purported court order declaring Chief Ikechi Emenike as governorship candidate for Abia State is of no consequence to his candidature. In a statement signed by Chief Joshua Ogbonna for Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah Movement (USOM), Ogah said for the fact he was not a party to the suit, makes the court ruling a nullity.

    The release read: “The attention of Dr. Uche Ogah Campaign Organisation has been drawn to a purported order of an Abuja High Court declaring Ikechi Emenike, a suspended member of our party, the APC, as the gubernatorial candidate for Abia State. “Dr. Ogah is not a party to the purported suit and therefore, the so called order is of no consequence to his candidature. “We hereby call on all Abians, APC members and our numerous supporters to remain calm as the distraction being sponsored by the PDP and Abia State government is under control. “Dr. Ogah remains the only authentic candidate of APC in Abia State and will deliver in 2019, so that Abians will rejoice.”

  • Customs intercepts container load of military uniforms, other items — Spokesperson

    The Customs yesterday announced the seizure of a container load of military uniforms and other items on the  Aba- Port Harcourt road.

    Mr. Joseph Attah, the Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), said that examination of the container was conducted in the presence of the owner’s representative.

    He said: “The roving team of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone C, have seized a container with registration  number MRSU 3040288 found to carry military uniforms and other items along Aba- Port Harcourt road.

    “The container was taken to Owerri where proper examination in the presence of the representative of the owner revealed the followings: 11 bales containing new sets of sewn military camouflage.

    “Each bale contains 400 pairs of sewn military camouflage, 15 cartons containing Altama combat boots, each carton containing 20 pairs, and some sacks of garments.”

    ‎PSC promotes 4,542 senior officers, others

    The Police Service Service Commission (PSC),  has approved the promotion of 4,542 senior police Officers to their next rank.

    The Commission in a statement in Abuja yesterday by it’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, also approved special promotion for 16 officers based on their exceptional  performance and dedication to duty on the recommendation of the Inspector General of Police.

    Two other officers were also promoted based on their gallantry act while 188 others were placed on acting appointment on their next rank.

    The commission noted that they were promoted between the month of May and June 2016.

    The break down of the promotions are as follows; “7 from Commissioners of Police (CP) to Assistant Inspector General (AIG), 6 from Deputy Commissioner (DC) to  CPs, 20 from Assistant Commissioner (AC) to Deputy Commissioner (DC), 8 from Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) to AC, and 107 from Superintendent of Police to CSP.

    “Others are 1431 from Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to SP, 1252 from Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) to DSP and 1711 from Inspector to ASP.

    “These promotions and appointments have been communicated to the Inspector General of Police for implementation”, it stated.

    The Chairman of the Commission, Mike Okiro, urged  the affected officers to reciprocate government gesture by rededictating themselves to the service of the nation.

    He enjoined them to ensure that they are guided by the approved rules and regulations of the Force adding that they should operate with the fear of God.

    Dr. Okiro said the Commission would continue to ensure that promotion of police men is regular to serve as a tonic for effective and efficient service.

    He also noted that the Commission will continue to evolve guidelines and programmes to improve efficiency in the Force.

    Titilope Sonuga has been appointed the of- ficial spokesperson of its 2015 She Will Connect programme in Nigeria.

    She will use the platform to share her inspiring story of success and influence the lives of other women across the country in the pan-Nigerian initiative which starts this month and ends next year.

    Titilope is an award winning poet, writer, actor and civil engineer whose work has graced stages and pages both nationally and internationally.

    She has featured on stages across Canada and internationally, and was invited alongside world renowned poets such as Sonia Sanchez, Jayne Cortez, Yusef Komunyakaa, to perform at the 2011 Achebe Colloquium on Africa at Brown University. Titilope is the creator of Rouge Poetry and a founding member of the Breath in Poetry Collective.

    Titilope was the winner of the 2013 Recognising Immigrant Success in Edmonton (RISE) Award for achievement in the arts and the National Black Coalition of Canada (NBCC) Fil Fraser Award for Outstanding achievement in the arts. Titilope performed a stirring inauguration poem at the swearing-in of President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2015; a historic moment for the country and the first time a poet had ever been invited to perform at a Nigerian president inauguration.

    Commenting on the initiative, Country Marketing and Public Relations Manager, Intel West Africa, Mr. Adim Isiakpona expressed Intel’s commitment to bringing positive change in the African Girl Child.

    Adim said: “We at Intel believe that smart females are the equivalent of a smart world. We want to present Titilope as an icon of the endless capabilities in a woman when she is given the platform to express herself. We want a world where women’s lives are inspiring enough for a change.”

    Lagos police command gets new spokesperson

    •Braide transferred to Panti

    Lagos Police Command spokesperson Ngozi Braide, a Deputy Superintendent (DSP), has been redeployed to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) at Panti, Yaba, Lagos Mainland.

    She has been replaced with DSP Kenneth Nwosu. The redeployment takes immediate effect.

    Braide assumed office on June 11, 2012 as the first female officer to head the Command’s public relations office.

    In a thank you letter to the media and the public, Braide begged those she might have offended to forgive her.

    She said: “I am using this medium to express my profound gratitude for the maximum support given to me by my friends in the media and Lagosians as a whole. You have been quite cooperative as you assisted me in making my job easier despite my short comings.

    “During the discharge of my duties here in Lagos State as the Police spokesperson, l may have had disagreements with some of you, I hereby use this medium to say “I am sorry”. Considering the complexity of my office and varied opinions, there was no way I wouldn’t have offended someone.

    “As the first female Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos State Police Command, I expressed fears when I assumed office on June 11, 2012, but to my greatest surprise, I experienced the warmest reception and assistance from you all.

    “May I use this medium to thank AIG Umar Manko who accorded me the wonderful opportunity to serve Lagos State. I thank him for his understanding, assistance and fatherly advice during my tenure. My gratitude also goes to the new Commissioner of Police Kayode Aderanti for his understanding during my short stay with him. I also solicit that you accord my junior colleague DSP Kenneth Nwosu the same level of cooperation you gave to me”.
