    Why Rivers SSG, Wike’s aide were arrested, by army chief

    The Commander of 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Brig.-Gen. Stephenson Olabanji, gave reasons yesterday why Secretary to the Rivers State Government Chief Kenneth Kobani and a Special Assistant to Governor Nyesom Wike,  Mr Cyril Wite, were arrested by the Army.

    Gen. Olabanji said at a joint security news conference in Port Harcourt that both men were arrested in Gokana and Khana Local Government Areas on Saturday for allegedly committing electoral offences.

    “Many people were arrested yesterday (Saturday) for disrupting the electoral process and the law is not meant for just the lower cadre alone.

    “No matter who you are, if you go against the law, you will definitely face the music.

    “So, there is nothing like being Secretary to the State Government; many people were arrested as you have been told; a lot of people were arrested,” he said.

    Gen. Olabanji denied claims by the state government that some commissioners and other top officials were manhandled by soldiers during the re-run elections.

    Assistant Commissioner of Police Zone Six, Calabar, Mr Adisa Bolanta, said four people died while 22 persons were arrested during the elections.

    Bolanta said the suspects were being interrogated on allegations of criminal or electoral offences.

    He said deployments made by the police assisted in reducing election-related offences.

    Governor Wike who confirmed the arrests, said the government officials wanted to ensure that election materials were moved to polling units at the time they were arrested.

    Bello appoints SSG, Accountant General, 31 other positions

    Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has approved the appointment of Mrs Ayoade Folashade Arike as Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

    The governor also appointed Alhaji Momoh Jubril as the new Accountant General of the state.

    The appointments which were contained in a release from the office of the Chief of Staff yo tge Governor, Mr. Edward Onoja, showed that 31 others were also appointed.

    The governor appointed Gen. Paul Okutimo Olusola (rtd.) as State Security Adviser; Bar. Ibrahim Sani Mohammed as State Legal Adviser and Pharm. Abdulkareem Jamiu Mohammed as DG Protocol.

    On his media team, the governor named Mr. Ademu Idakwo, Chairman of the Correspondent Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kogi as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Print Media.

    The governor also named Petra Akinti Onyebule and Gbenga Babayinka Olorunpomi as SSAs on electronic and new media respectively.

    Also appointed were 20 Special advisers and five special assistants to the deputy governor.

    Lamido’s son’s suspension not political, says SSG

    Jigawa State Secretary to the Government (SSG), Alhaji Abdulkadir Fanini, has said the suspension of the son of ex-Governor Sule Lamido, Mustapha, as the Santurakin Dutse and District Head of Bamaina, by the Dutse Emirate Council, is not political.

    He said it is in accordance with the civil service rule number 04301 and 0412, which stipulates: “Any public servant, who is standing trial on criminal case, should be suspended until the determination of the case.”

    Fanini said: “The directive is in order and not political.”

    Mustapha, who graduated last Saturday from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria with a master’s degree, was suspended by the Emirate Council with his friend, Aminu Wada Abubakar, the Dokajin Dutse and District Head of Kiyawa.

    They are standing trial on alleged money laundering.

    For Sir Jude Ejiogu, the Secretary to Imo State Government (SSG) and former Chief of Staff Government House, it was a time to revel in the love and warm reception of his people of Emekuku and Emii Ancient Clan in Owerri North Local Government.

    For having proved his mettle in private and public sectors and brought fame and honour to his region of origin, his people rolled out the drums to honour him as a way of encouraging others to always toe the path of honour, integrity, justice, equity and fairness.

    It was a carnival-like event that attracted dignitaries from within and outside the state, including captains of industry, bankers, technocrats, politicians, civil servants and political appointees, among others, who defied the scorching sun to honour the soft-spoken banker turned politician.

    At the event which was held at the Obi Memorial Primary School, illustrious sons and daughters of the ancient kingdom, who cut across all spheres of specialisation, took turns to eulogise Ejiogu, who many described as a humane, honest and consummate politician, who has used his good offices to positively affect his people, irrespective of their religious or political affiliations.

    The State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, who attended the event with his wife and other top government functionaries, stated that he appointed Ejiogu as Secretary to the State Government after going through his profile and discovered the achievements he recorded while serving in other sensitive positions in the state.

    He described him as a humble man who is even admired by members of the opposition party.

    The Governor added that the occasion afforded him the opportunity to witness the kind of love the people of the community have for the celebrator.

    He appealed to them to continue to sustain their love for their son beyond his tenure of office and the Rescue Mission administration.

    The Governor’s wife, Nneoma Okorocha, in her congratulatory speech, expressed joy over the rate at which people turned out to witness the event; describing it as a rare show of love to the celebrator.

    She urged the people of the area to continue to support the present government to enable it to continue delivering on its campaign promises.

    Responding, Ejiogu expressed surprise that people from all walks of life could attend the programme despite their political affiliations.

    He assured that he would continue to do everything within his powers as Secretary to the State Government to ensure that people of the state continue to witness dividends of democracy.

    Ejiogu thanked the state Governor for showing him genuine love by giving him the opportunity to serve the people of the state in various capacities since the inception of the Rescue Mission government.

    Dignitaries at the event included Rochas Anayo Okorocha, his wife, Nneoma, Chief of Staff, Government House, Chief Uche Nwosu, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Chief I.D. Nwoga, Chief Frank Nneji , Chief Tony Chukwu, Nze Herbert Chikwe, Prince Lemmy Akakem, Mazi Clement Owunna, Chief Henry Njoku and Prof. Jude Njoku.

    Others were Hon. Chike Okafor member representing Okigwe South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Austin Chukwukere, member representing Ideato Federal Constituency, Hon. Raphael Nnanna Igbokwe, Speaker Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Acho Ihim and the Chief Judge of Imo State, Hon. Justice Paschal Nnadi, among others.

     

  • Umahi locks out deputy, SSG for lateness

    •Governor suspends officials’ salaries

    Ebonyi State Deputy Governor Kelechi Igwe and Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof Bernard Odoh, were at the weekend, locked out of a meeting for lateness.

    They were later allowed entry after about 15 minutes.

    Governor Dave Umahi also suspended the October salaries of some government officials for lateness.

    They include the 13 local government caretaker committee chairmen, the 64 Development center coordinators, and some principal officers in the Governor’s Office.

    Others are commissioners, personal assistants, senior special assistants, special advisers and other government functionaries.

    Governor Umahi said those affected would forfeit their September overhead.

    The officials came late to the debate on government’s anti-corruption crusade and its Internally Generated Revenue drive, held at the Akanu Ibiam International Conference Center, Abakaliki.

    Speaking after the debate, Umahi regretted the increase in exam miracle centers, calling for the arrest and prosecution of proprietors of such centers.

    He directed that all miracle centers be shut by the Ministry of Education.

    Kebbi appoints new SSG

    The Kebbi state government has announced the appointment of its former Head of Civil Service, Alh Babale Yauri as Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

    This is contained in a statement signed by Muazu Dakingari, the Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Atiku Bagudu and made to available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

    The statement said that the appointment was with immediate effect.

    Yauri holds a Political Science certificate from the Ahmadu Bello University and a Master’s degree from the Wales University in the U.K.

    He was also a member of the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies Kuru, near Jos.

    Yauri started his career in the old Sokoto state, subsequently rose to the position of Director-General and also Permanent Secretary in different ministries before his appointment as head of service in 2014.

    While congratulating him on his appointment as SSG, Bagudu urged Yauri to be committed and dedicated to his duties by deploying his expertise to the assignment.

    NAN reports that Yauri’s announcement as SSG was the only major appointment made by the state government since it came into existence in May.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Nigerian Army under Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai had recently received commendations from notable figures and organisations around the world for the level of professionalism exhibited by troops in the frontline.

    Gaidam appoints SSG

    Yobe State Governor Ibrahim Gaidam has appointed Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

    The appointment, contained in a statement by the governor’s Director of Press, Abdullahi Bego, said it was with immediate effect.

    Wali’s appointment has ended the speculated ambitions of the former  SSG, Babagoni Machina and others, such as the ex-Commissioner for Education, Mohammed Lamin and Mustapha Gajirima.

    The announcement has also sealed the ambition of the governor’s Chief of Staff, Saleh Abubakar and a retired federal permanent secretary and ex-SSG, Hassan Saleh.

    Until his appointment, Wali was a permanent secretary (Administration) at the Governor’s Office, where he served as the acting Secretary to the State Government, following the dissolution of the Executive Council on May 28.

    Shettima appoints SSG, advisers, others

    Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima  has announced the appointment of Alhaji Usman Shuwa Jidda as the Secretary to the Government (SSG).

    Yakubu Bukar and Alhaji Modu Musa retained  their positions as the Head of Service (HOS) and the Chief of Staff (CoS) respectively.

    The appointment  was contained in a press statement signed by the Permanent Secretary (Administration and General Services), Dr. Maryam Bukar Ibrahim.

    According to the statement,  Alhaji Isa Umar Gusau has also been re-appointed  as Special Adviser on Communications and Strategy to Shettima.

    Others who also retained their posts are:  Alhaji Usman Kumo, as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media (Radio), and  Miss Kwapchi Bata Dibal  as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media (television); Yusuf Usman Shettima and Abba Bashir Talbari, SSAs (Social Media); Baba Zannah Abdulkarim, SSA (Special Projects); Mustapha Mohammed Kukawa and Christopher Godwin Akaba, SSAs (Special Duties).

    The new SSG is 57 years old. He  studied law at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. He had been at various times Registrar of Borno College of Legal and Islamic Studies (BOCOLIS).

    He had  taught at the University of Maiduguri. He was also a  Director of Administration at Borno State Agricultural Development Programme (BOSADP). He is the former Executive Chairman of Borno State Teaching Service Board.

    While congratulating the appointees, Shettima urged them to continue to contribute their quota in the discharge of their duties towards development of Borno State.

    Lalong appoints former colleague as SSG

    Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong has appointed Mr. Rufus Bature as the Secretary to the Government (SSG).

    Bature was the Minority Leader in the House of Assembly when Lalong was the Speaker between 2001 and 2007.

    Bature, a Berom, was also the Director-General of Lalong Campaign organisation, whose leadership in the campaign team led to the emergence of Lalong as the governor.

    Lalong also appointed Mr. John Dafa’an as the Chief of Staff, Government House while Barr. Yusuf Hawaja as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House.

    In a statement in Jos by the Permanent Secretary, Policy and General Studies, Izam Azi, others also appointed are Mr. Silas Vem as Deputy Chief of Staff, Deputy Governor’s Office, Prof. John Wade, Director General, Research, Mr. Cyril Tsenyil Accountant-General.

    Also, Mr. Cletus Kangkum is appointed Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, while Mr. Emmanuel Nanle is the Director of Press Affairs.

    The appointments was the first official act since inauguration last week.

    Okorocha swears in SSG, CPS, others

    IMO State Governor Rochas Okorocha yesterday swore in the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Sir Jude Ejiogu, and four others. The others are: the Chief, Uche Nwosu, Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, Emma Ibediro and Senior Special Assistant on Assets and Liabilities, Elthel Ibebuchi and the Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo,.

    Okorocha advised the officials to settle down to wirk for the people. Okorocha tells SSG, others:

    “A moment like this calls for sober reflection; it is not a time to be carried away by the euphoria of the moment. To whom much is given, much is expected. Today’s responsibility has fallen on your shoulders; the people expect much from us and we must hurry to deliver the dividends of democracy.

    He urged their friends and family members to refrain from making unrealistic demands, adding: “Corruption in public offices is often as a result of pressure from family members”.

    Responding on behalf of others, Ejiogu described their appointment as a mark of honour.

    He said: “Since our appointment is a mark of acceptance, I pledge on behalf of my colleagues that we will do you proud. Imo is in critical times because we are moving into a period of consolidation.

    “We are determined to follow you to ensure that we achieve the industrial revolution, which is the main thrust of your second term”.
