    Woman ‘stabs’ neighbour to death over water

    The police in Lagos have arrested a woman for allegedly stabbing her neighbour to death over water.

    The incident occurred at 10, Tunkarimu Street, Ajegunle Apapa, around 9:30pm on Sunday.

    The suspect, Cynthia Aigbodon, allegedly killed one Barakat Adio during a misunderstanding at a public borehole near their residence.

    Although the exact reason for the fight was yet to be ascertained, sources claimed it was about whose turn it was to fetch water from the public borehole.

    According to spokesman for the Lagos Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the deceased’s husband reported the case at the divisional headquarters in Ajegunle.

    He said the woman was rushed to the hospital after she was stabbed but was declared dead by the medical worker on duty.

    Hundeyin said homicide detectives were deployed to the scene after the complaint was initiated, adding that it was discovered that the suspect stabbed the deceased above her left rib.

    He said the detectives took photographs of the crime scene, recovered the exhibit and arrested the suspect, adding that the deceased was deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

  • Mother, son ‘stab’ co-tenant with knife

    A mother and her son were yesterday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly attacking a tenant. They were said to have attacked their victim with a knife.

    Ekaete John, 55, a trader and Isaac Godwin, 20, a company worker, living at 27, Segun Adetiba Street, Alakuko, Lagos, are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful assault.

    Prosecuting Inspector Victor Eruada told the court that the accused committed the offences with others at large on July 15, at their residence.

    The prosecutor said that a fight broke out between the duo and the complainant, Mr Fabian Owotikwu, following an argument.

    “In the process, John and her son brought out a knife which they used to cut Owotikwu’s private parts and inflict injuries on him,” Eruada said .

    Eruada said Owotikwu suffered various injuries following the attack.

    The accused pleaded not guilty.

    Chief Magistrate M. I. Dan-Oni granted the accused N50,000 bail with one surety in the like sum.

    The case continues on August 20.

    An aluminium technician, Kayode Raphael escaped death by whiskers after he was attacked suspected land grabbers in the Isu area of Imota, Ikorodu, a Lagos suburb.

    The incident happened penultimate Saturday while Raphael and others were trying to install aluminium roof of a building under construction.

    The victim had barely started work at the site when the hoodlums stormed the site and attacked him with hammer and broken bottles.

    Raphael however managed to escape into nearby bush from where he reported the incident to Imota Police Division.

    He said: ‘’ Sometimes in October, I went to a site to install aluminium roof of a building when the same gang of land grabbers stormed the building and demanded a sum of N10,000 as settlement before they could allow us to work. When we gave them N5000, they refused to collect the money and instead wanted to attack us. We contacted Imota Police Division and the matter was settled amicably.

    ‘’On Saturday November 18, 2017, at about 9.30 am, we were about six working on a site when members of the gang came there and smashed a hammer on my face. While I was trying to escape from the scene, one of them pursued me and stabbed me with broken bottles repeatedly on my arms.

    ‘’ I managed to escape into the bush and ran to Imota Police Division to report the incident. I was given police authorization letter to Ikorodu General Hospital for proper treatment. But I could not go to the hospital because I had lost so much blood and my body was weak. This made my friends to take me to a private hospital where I was treated and my wounds stitched.”

    The spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Mr Olarinde Famous-Cole could not be reached for comments on his mobile phone, while a text message forwarded to his phone was not returned as of press time.

  • Housewife ‘stabs’ neighbour

    A housewife, Anita Gilbert, has been arraigned at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stabbing her neighbour.

    Gilbert, 25, allegedly used a broken bottle to stab her neighbour, Damilola Okonji in the head.

    The accused, residing at Salami Street in Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos, is standing trial on a charge of assault.

    Prosecuting Inspector Simeon Inuoha told court that the offence was committed on February 8 at the residence of the accused.

    Inuoha said Gilbert and Okonji were fighting over usage of a toilet.

    “The accused broke a beer bottle and stabbed the man in his head which caused him to bleed profusely.

    “If not for the intervention of other neighbours who rushed the complainant to the hospital, it would have been another story.”

    Inuoha said that the offence contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The accused pleaded not guilty.

    Chief Magistrate Mrs B. O. Osunsanmi granted the accused N100, 000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.

    Osunsanmi adjourned the case till March 6.

    Man stabs girlfriend to death in Kwara

    Jilted lover boy Monday allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death in Ilorin, Kwara state capital over the refusal of the lady to agree to his marriage proposal.

    The young man is said to be officer with one of the franchise leading mobile telecommunication operators.

    The man was also said to have allegedly stabbed his girl friend’s mother who had waded into the matter.

    But older woman, it was gathered escaped the attack with serious injuries.

    Sources said she was rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) where she has since been receiving treatment at the Emergency unit of the hospital.

    It was gathered that the hitherto two lovebirds had been involved in a serious argument over the issue of marriage with the girl insisting that she could not marry the young man because he allegedly was dating several other women at the same time.

    It was gathered that they went out on Sunday night and returned to the girl’s house at Tanke area of Ilorin where the mother had also come on a visit to her daughter.

    Early Monday morning, the argument resurfaced with the girl still maintaining her position.

    The young man was said to have allegedly threatened to kill the lady if she refused his proposal.

    It was at the height of the argument that the lady’s mother reportedly came out of her room with the intention of settling the dispute.

    The young man was said to have dashed to the kitchen where he allegedly brought tout a knife with which he attacked the two women. While he succeeded in killing his lover, the mother escaped with serious injuries before neighbours were alerted to the scene by the series of cries for help.

    However, another version of the incident claimed that  the  young man, who is currently on the run, had first reported for duty at his office located along the University of Ilorin Road before he told his colleagues he wanted to go and pick something at home.

    A source who saw the deceased said that the woman was stabbed several times at the neck and around the back of the armpit. She was said to have been in her early thirties.

    One of the sources who saw the corpse when it was freshly brought to the hospital said “she was very pretty.”

    Spokesman of the Kwara state police Command, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the incident.

    He added that the command was already on the trail of the suspect.

    Wife stabs Police Inspector to death in Ondo

    A Police Inspector’s wife in Ondo state, Wumi Omowa has been arrested for allegedly killing her husband, Israel.

    The suspect was arrested by men of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in connection with the alleged murder of her husband.

    It was gathered that the suspect stabbed her husband several times in different parts of his body when an argument ensued between them over a domestic issue.

    The incident according to a reliable source happened at the couple’s residence located at Olu Foam area, along Ilesa-Owo highway in Akure.

    The deceased Police Officer who was in his mid 30s reportedly married his wife four years ago and they were both living peacefully before the incident.

    Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations officer (PPRO) Mr Femi Joseph said Omowa was confirmed dead at a Private hospital in Akure where his wife rushed him to after stabbing him.

  • Tragedy in Warri as girl stabs brother to death

    The Ogbe family in the Ugbuwangue axis of Warri, Delta state, was Tuesday thrown into deep mourning as one of their daughters, known as Omasan, stabbed her teenage younger brother, Laju, to death.

    The Nation learnt that Omasan, a 21-year old, was involved in an argument with Laju over house chores, which the younger one was said to have resisted.

    According to a source, when Omasan asked Laju, who was the only son of the family, to do the dishes, the boy was said to have resisted, reminding his sister that he had already fetched water and was tired to do more.

    The argument resulted to a physical fight and at some point; Laju slammed the sister on the floor. He reportedly ran to the back with his sister on his trail, wilding a kitchen knife and eventually stabbed him in the chest.

    ‘’He fell to the ground, started screaming,  and calling for help before people rushed to the house to attempt to help the boy,’’ the source said.

    By the time Laju got help and was rushed to the Warri Central Hospital, he has passed away as he was said to have lost much blood. He was later buried in front of his father’s house at Ugbuwangue.

    Meanwhile, realising the magnitude of her action, Omasan, was said to have attempted an escape, but was grabbed by the people around and handed over to the police.

    Attempt to get a reaction from the children’s only parent; their mother, as their father was said to have passed away over ten years ago, was unsuccessful.

    She was still in shock as at the time of filing this report.

    Police Public Relations Officer in Delta State, Celestina Kalu, confirmed the teenager’s death.

    She added that investigations into the case had commenced.
