  • Real Music Theatre Productions stages Queen Esther the Musicals

It was a combination of drama, dance, comedy, singing, use of traditional/western instruments and more, at the Agip Recital Hall, MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos, when the Real Music Theatre (RMT) Productions staged a performance titled: Queen Esther, the Musicals. OLATUNDE ODEBIYI was there.

With over 300 guests, Queen Esther, the Musicals featured modern lighting and comfortable sets, as well as quality sound and acoustics systems to complement the performance.

The combination of the actors and actresses; keyboardist and guitarist as well as drummers provided the audience with new theatre experience.

The professional singers and dancers; the creative costume,  vocabulary and diction; stage management and timing; choice of songs and the setting of the stage also complemented the whole performance.

Queen Esther the Musicals staged by Real Music Theatre (RMT) Productions, a production that speaks on the sacrifice for nation building.

The drama was staged at the Agip Recital Hall in MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.

While the audience were seated in the lights-off hall, the drama began with a group of five ladies and three guys who danced the Persian dance.

They all moved to the centre stage, where they continued the Persian dance, which was the opening scene of the life performance.

The setting of the stage was akin to that of a Persian Palace which had Egyptian designs.

The drama was about a Jewish orphan girl who later became Queen Esther. She sacrificed to the extent of putting her life at risk to save her people (the Jewish people).

According to the Chief Executive Officer of RMT Productions, Odutola the drama is about sacrifice to build a nation, which according to her was what Queen Esther did in the drama.

“In the drama, Queen Esther did everything in her power and she got freedom for her people. If she had not paid the sacrifice, the entire Jewish people will have been wiped off from the world till today.”

“We have put this drama out to let our leaders, as well as all Nigerians and the world at large know that there is a place of sacrifice in nation building. If we look at the country today, we have leaders who have not been able to sacrifice for their nation. The drama talks about the place of sacrifice, not being selfish, not fighting for your pocket, for your own self, but being mindful of others.”

To our political leaders in Nigeria, Odutola urged them to learn from the drama which preaches sacrifice for a nation.

“It is time for our leaders to rise up for Nigeria; Nigeria is not where it should be; we are rich in people, natural resources and in young intelligent youths. Our political leaders should therefore rise up for our country, they should not be after their selfish gains, but should stand for the good of the people.

“We lack nothing in this country, except for proper leadership, which is needed to take us to where we should be, “she said.

Odutola urged those in the entertainment industry to be morally cautious, stop promoting immorality and positively impact the society.

She noted that RMT Productions is a gospel music theatrical production, adding that they  are into ethical stories.

“We give ethical stories to our audience, we impact them positively and let them know that they can be entertained in the gospel world.”

“RMT Productions will be going on tours to perform the same musicals. The part two will be coming up and we also have other productions upcoming. We will engage more of youths, because a lot of talented youths are out there,” she said.

  • Group stages rallies to support Ambode’s re-election

Members of a group, Human and Consumer Rights Advocacy Centre, staged rallies yesterday in various parts of Lagos to support Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s re-election.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the group staged rallies at Ojota, Ogba, Berger and Iyana Ipaja, chanting solidarity songs in support of Ambode.

The rallies are coming against the backdrop of speculations that Ambode had fallen out of favour with his political godfather and All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The former Lagos State governor is said to be currently rooting for a former commissioner, Mr Jide Sanwo-Olu, who has declared his intention to contest the governorship on the platform of APC, where Ambode also belongs.

Analysts view the development as a trying political season for Ambode, who has since announced his desire to seek re-election.

Asiwaju Tinubu has dominated the politics of Lagos State, Nigeria’s economic capital for many years.

Members of HACRAC chanted solidarity songs as they moved from one place to another in the city, clutching placards with various inscriptions.

The placards read: “Let the good man continue”; “Asiwaju, Ambode is your son”; “In solidarity with Ambode” and “Ambode is a resilient responsible governor.”

Others read: “Governor Ambode is our man”; “Asiwaju, please, leave Mr Actualiser”; “Let the good job continue” and “Let Ambode continue his good but unfinished job.”

On September 14, a group, Ambodemania Movement/Support Worldwide, staged a similar rally in Lagos to celebrate what they called “good governance in Lagos”.

One of the leaders of the rally, Mr Alex Omotehinse, told reporters that the rallies were holding simultaneously at Ogba, Iyana-Ipaja, Berger and other areas to drum support for Ambode.
