  • Staphylococcus not sexually transmitted, vital for women, says doctor

    Contrary to beliefs, Staphylococcus aureus is not a sexually transmitted infection but vital for every woman’s private part, a medical doctor has said.

    “A certain amount of it should be there for that place to function well,’’ Dr Tochukwu Egwuonwu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

    Egwuonwu, who works with the Samaria Hospital, Ago, Lagos, said staphylococcus aureus was a bacterium found in human body.

    “Some bacteria such as staphylococcus aureus is found everywhere in the human body. It will be good for people to know that; especially women.

    “That it is everywhere is not the issue; it is when in a particular organ or in the body in an amount harmful to the body that it becomes an issue,’’ Egwuonwu said.

    The doctor said the bacterium helped to balance the private part’s potential of hydrogen (ph).

    “Once it is not balanced, that area will be infected,’’ she said.

    According to the doctor, there are different species of staphylococcus.

    “The one that readily comes to people’s mind, maybe, because of the way it is advertised is staphylococcus aureus,’’ she told NAN.

    She urged couples desiring to conceive to disregard jingles in public places announcing that staphylococcus aureus was the reason they could not conceive.

    “There is nothing wrong to say that one has grown staph; it depends on the quantity; it might just be normal and nothing to worry about.’’

    Egwuonwu regretted that some couples had resorted to consulting unqualified laboratory scientists to carry out fertility test on them and effect treatment.

    “The danger in patronising quacks is enormous.’’

    She advised women against using ‘strong’ soaps to clean their private parts.

    “Doing so will alter the ph balance of that vital area of the body.’’

    According to Egwuonwu, the ideal soap to use for cleaning the private part is a mild one.

    She said ordinary water was also ideal for the cleaning.

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S.A, staph resistant drugs doubled from 1987 to 1997. I decided to cite the above reference to counter the belief in the minds of certain people that staphylococcal infection is an infection for only Africans. This is absolutely wrong. According to sound knowledge, and information, staphylococcus is a worldwide health issue. We need more enlightenment to a health disaster which is now destroying and killing our people.     I have said severally  and in reference to opinion within and outside Nigeria that 27 species of staphylococcus are majorly identified by medical experts, but the most common and most disturbing specie of these infections are staph epidermidis which attacks the skin leading to boil and skin irritation and staph saprophyticus which attacks the urinary tract leading to painful urination and biting sensation in the urinary tract and staph aureaus which destroys the immune system leading to numerous opportunistic infections as follows; staphylococcus attacks the lung leading to staphylococcus pneumonia which eventually results to difficult breathing and cough condition.

The pigments produced by staphylocococci are the basis of the names given to the various strains those with colors ranging from orange to yellow are designated Staph aureaus. Staph aureaus is the major specie of these infection which attacks human beings. They produce infection in any organ of the body such as staph pneumonia of the lungs, brain access etc. The most common food poisoning is brought by staph contaminated food.

    The staph organsims also generate toxins and enzymes that can destroy both the red and white blood cells. I will like to submit that British Medical Journal Reported in February that 800 people died from drug resistant staph in 2002 vs 51 in 1993. Cases have also spiked up in most part of the world.

    According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S.A, staph resistant  drugs doubled from 1987 to 1997. I decided to cite the above reference to counter the belief in the minds of certain people that staphylococcal infection is an infection for only Africans.  This is absolutely wrong.     Apart from infections such as,(staphylococcus, gonorrhea, syphilis), wrong lifestyle, poor Libido, Alcohols, spiritual weakness and other related factors, the following physical defects causes male infertility:
    INFECTION: This lead to sperm blockage. A lot of men suffer one of the infection or another. The most common of these are:
    STAPHYLOCOCCUS (IMMUNE DISTROYER): Infection can lead to infertility both in men and women. Experience has shown that the reason only majority of men are infertile or cannot impregnate a lady is because of one infection or another. More than 30% of modern couples from mid-40s are infertile.     Oftentimes, a man thinks that once he is sexually active and can go more than two rounds of sexual intercourse in a night, he believes that nothing is wrong with him. But this is a fallacy. Because being sexually active is not an indication of being fertile. Although there are various reasons that can lead to infertility in men from his kind of lifestyle( having an unprotected sexual  intercourse), his diet( the kind of food , drink he takes), the nature of his work( working around hot ovens) and any history of venereal diseases. What we are particularly concerned about now is the male infertility that is caused by venereal disease. When a man contracts venereal diseases and if not well treated or cured could lead to staphylococcus infection. Most times staphylococcus infection in man is not easily detected until it has done a lot of damage to his reproductive organ. Most of the time, such a man will be having some common symptoms like: feverish condition, fatigue, headache, quick ejaculation, internal heat, worm like moving sensation in the body, body weakness, stomach noise, yellowish urine, dryness of the hand and leg as if there is no blood in the body, serious waist pain etc. All the above symptoms to him will seem normal until he goes to hospital for test before he can really detect that he has a big problem.     ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION: This is inability of a man to perform his sexual responsibility either partial or total such as low libido, quick ejaculation, impotent etc.
    FEMALE INFERTILITY:
     In woman a number of factors can disrupt this process at any stage. Female infertility be it Primary infertility or Secondary infertility.
