  • 22 kids to get health care sponsorship from Star Times

    Desirous of creating a sustainable social value and alleviating the needs of less privilege children in the society, leading Pay TV provider, Star Times Nigeria has as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiative undertaken to make provision for the health care needs of 22 children under the care of Save Our Soul (SOS) Children Villages in Nigeria.

    The company made this known in a statement on Wednesday, noting that it will continue to add value to the society while uplifting the lives and general wellbeing of young people. According to its Public Relations Manager, Kunmi Balogun, the global CSR strategy of Star Times seeks to enhance the quality of life of youths and children across Africa and Star Times Nigeria has demonstrated this through various CSR projects across Nigeria.

    He said: This initiative is in furtherance to our initial support to SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria a few months ago. Having visited their facility in Gwagwalada, Abuja, we realized there was need for further support the centre in ways that touches beyond the components of our MOU, especially in the area of healthcare for some of children in the facility, hence the decision to give more funds towards this course.”

    Balogun added that Star Times focuses on children because they are the most vulnerable in the society and require the most attention.

    “Less privileged children suffer the most because they go through unthinkable things in a bid for survival. We will stop at nothing to ensure that their wellbeing is taken care of to the best of our capacity,” he said.

     

  • Star Times joins UNAIDS in fight against HIV/AIDS

    Star Times Nigeria has joined campaigns against HIV/AIDS disease in Nigeria.

    The leading digital Pay TV provider said it is joining the campaign to eradicate the disease completely from Nigeria and Africa.

    Star Times Nigeria CEO, Justin Zhang, stated these during a courtesy visit to the UNAIDS Country Director, Dr. Erasmus Morah at the United Nation office in Abuja.

    According to him: “Star Times is committed to the complete eradication of HIV and AIDS in Nigeria using its media footprint across the country and its’ ability to reach millions of Nigerians even in villages where aid workers are not able to access.

    “The company would assist in the area of broadcasting informative content and engaging youths via entertaining mobile engagement that educate.”

    Morah commended Star Times for its interest in joining in the fight against the epidemic.

    He said that “there is a need to focus on educative contents for mother- to- child transmission of HIV.

    A lot still has to be done in this area to educate pregnant women on the needs to get tested to protect their babies from contracting the virus.

    Youths set for “The Labour Room”

    Thirty seven Nigerian youths selected from every state of the Federation arrived in Abuja on Thursday for the maiden edition of “The Labour Room”, a reality TV show geared towards national development.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 37 youths were officially presented at a news conference held at Sandralia Hotel by the Nigeria Rebirth Foundation, organisers of the show.

    Mr Isaac Balami, National Coordinator, said that the project provides a platform for youths to explore their rich potential and contribute towards the building of a better Nigeria.

    “The Labour Room is the first national development reality TV show in Africa, strategically designed to activate the super potential of Nigerian youths.

    “The programme is designed to promote unity in our diversity, and shall over the period, analyse and x-ray the issues of our nationhood, articulating the workable, sustainable solutions and recommendations for reforms.”

    “There are 37 selected housemates representing all the states in Nigeria and the FCT to be housed in a ‘Mansion’ for 60 days, and to be broadcast 24 hours daily.”

    According to him, the organisers had earlier held audition for the show across the 36 states and the FCT and a contestant selected to represent each state.

    He added that the contestants were made to undergo a three-day training in April.

    “The training was meant to ensure that the TV show and activities of the contestants go in line with this administration’s agenda and conforms to basic national values and culture.”

    He explained that the initiative would, among other benefits, stimulate many young entrepreneurs, create thousands of direct and indirect jobs and complement government’s effort towards promoting national unity and peace.

    Balami added that at the end of the show, leaders, entrepreneurs and intellectuals who would contribute to nation building would have been discovered and empowered.

    “The members of the public will be allowed to vote for the contestants of their choice, and at the end of the 60 days, four winners will emerge.

    “The four of them will then be empowered with N200 million capital to set up a local content driven company towards contributing to national economic development.”

    Balami said that the opening ceremony of the reality would hold on Sept.17, 2017 at the International Conference Centre.

    He added that for the 60 days, the show would be aired on DSTV, STAR TIMES, NTA and other local and international Televisions with over 200 million targeted viewers across the globe.

    CNBC Africa, the continent’s leading business and financial news channel,was  yesterday launched on Star Times digital TV network across Nigeria.
