    Man ‘defiles’ six-year-old stepdaughter

    An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Lagos yesterday heard how a man, Muyiwa Adjoto, allegedly defiled his six-year-old stepdaughter (names withheld) at their Iwo residence in Badagry.

    The incident happened on April 22, 2022, when the child’s caregiver discovered signs of abuse.

    The Investigating Police Officers (IPO),  Grace Adebiyi, told Justice Rahman Oshodi that the caregiver had been away and returned to find the young girl in distress. Upon questioning, the IPO said the child recounted a horrifying experience of sexual assault by her step-grandfather.

    Grace also told the court that the man allegedly pushed Ayomide onto a bed, sexually assaulted her, and threatened her to keep silent. The witness said the defendant went further  to bathe the survivor and dressed her to cover up his actions.

    “Disturbed by the child’s account, the guardian immediately took her to the General Hospital in Badagry. Medical professionals confirmed signs of sexual abuse and advised the guardian to report the incident to the police.

    “The suspect was promptly arrested, but the case has encountered significant challenges,” the IPO said.

    She further told the court that they faced challenges during the investigation when it was discovered that the suspect’s former wife was a police officer.

  • Man, 58, held for ‘raping’ 10-year-old stepdaughter

    An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court has remanded a 58-year-old man, Sunday Akpan, for allegedly defiling his 10-year-old stepdaughter.

    Akpan, of Thomas Estate, Ajah, Lagos, was arraigned on a one-count charge of defilement before Mrs. K. O. Doja-Ojo.

    Prosecuting Inspector Peace Chukwudi alleged that the defendant committed the offence at about 2pm on December 8, at 1004 building, Thomas Estate.

    She alleged that Akpan had “unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl without her consent.”

    Akpan’s plea was not taken.

    The prosecutor urged the court to remand him, pending legal advice by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

    Magistrate Doja-Ojo granted the request and ordered that the case file be sent to  the DPP.

    The case continues on January 9.

  • Housewife kills stepdaughter with otapiapia

    A 20-year-old woman, Zulac Kabiru, has confessed to killing her eight-month-old stepdaughter, Rukaiya, to teach her co-wife how to respect “her superior” by giving her local insecticide, otapiapia, to drink.

    Zulac, who was arrested by the police in Niger State for alleged killing at Danauta village in Mariga Local Government Area, said she took the action because the second wife was always insulting and assaulting her.

    The suspect was said to have secretly given the baby the poison, which resulted in her death.

    It was gathered that the suspect and her fellow wife had not been in good terms for a long time.

    Addressed reporters when she was paraded, Zulac said: “I warned my husband to desist from getting another wife but he did not listen. The second wife loved insulting and assaulting me at all times. One day, I decided to poison her eight-month-old daughter to increase her sorrow in the family so that she will learn how to respect her superiors in the family.

    “Before my husband married her, and I kicked against it, we were living in peace. But when she came, she split the family. My husband gave her more attention than he gave me. Snd since then, our family has been in shambles.”

    The suspect said she did not know when she carried out the act.

    According to her, it was the work of the devil.

    “It was the work of the devil. I don’t know when I did it. It is a wicked act,” she said.

    Police spokesman Muhammad Abubakar, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said the suspect would be arraigned in court after investigation.

  • Man ‘defiles’ stepdaughter

    A 42-year-old stepfather, Oluwadare Joseph,  charged with allegedly defiling his 16-year-old stepdaughter for seven years, was yesterday remanded in Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos, on the orders of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

    Magistrate B.O. Osunsanmi refused the bail application of the accused and ordered that he be remanded in prison pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

    The accused, a resident of Meiran, Lagos, is standing trial for defilement.

    According to the prosecutor, Ezekiel Ayorinde, the accused allegedly committed the offence between 2011 and 2018 at his home.

    He alleged that the accused had been forcefully having sexual intercourse with his 16-year-old step-daughter since she was nine years.

    “The accused had been having carnal knowledge of the girl since when her mother married him seven years ago.

    “The accused always beat and threatened to kill her whenever she tried to resist him.

    “The teenager reported the matter to her mother, but she did not take action.’’

    Ayorinde said the girl ran from home to avoid constant sexual abuse by the accused.

    “After some days, the girl resurfaced and told the police why she ran from home; this led to the arrest of the accused,’’ the prosecutor said.

    The offence contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

    The case was adjourned till May 31.

    ‘Satan prompted me to attack my stepdaughter’

    A 46-year-old woman, Mrs. Rose Michael, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for injuring her stepdaughter, Blessing.

    The woman, who lives at 10, Onafowokan Street, Ita-Oluwa, Ogijo near Sagamu in Ogun State, reportedly attacked Blessing with a blade, lacerating her hands and thigh.

    The Nation learnt that a fight between Rose’s daughter and Blessing made her to attack the latter with a blade.

    But the woman told neighbours and the police that the devil prompted her to attack Blessing.

    “I knew the gravity of the action later,” she said.

    Police spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi said in a statement that Mrs. Michael was arrested following a complaint by her husband, James.

    He said Police Commissioner Ahmed Iliyasu instructed that the case be transferred to the Anti- Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit for investigation.

  • Man gets 14 years for defiling four-year-old stepdaughter

    An Ekiti State High Court in Ado-Ekiti yesterday sentenced a 57-year-old man, David Oluwatoba, to 14 years imprisonment for defiling his four-year-old stepdaughter.

    Justice Monisola Abodunde found the accused guilty of sexually-abusing the minor based on the evidence available to the court.

    The incident occurred on August 12, 2013 at Odo Usi Street, Awo Road, Igede-Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government. The convict was first arraigned on November 27, 2015.

    The case was prosecuted on behalf of the state by M.N. Olajiga of the Ministry of Justice. Chris Omokhafe appeared for the convict.

    Exhibits tendered include photographs, medical report on the sexual assault, statement of the accused at the police station, among others.

    The convict has two wives, including the victim’s mother, who is the second wife.

    On the day of the incident, the victim’s mother was not at home and the convict defiled her after bathing for her.

    The mother, on arrival, discovered blood stains on the victim’s clothes and found she was bleeding. She cried out.

    The incident was reported at Igede-Ekiti Police Divisional Headquarters and the convict was arrested.

  • Man ‘defiles’ stepdaughter

    A 37-year-old man, Oluwaseyi Akinmulayo, who allegedly defiled his step daughter, yesterday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court.

    The accused, who lives at Omorale Johnson Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, is facing a charge of defilement.

    Prosecuting Sergeant Jimah Iseghede told the court that the offence was committed sometime in February at the accused’s residence.

    According to Iseghede, the accused defiled his 15-year-old step daughter and told her not to tell anybody.

    “The girl later told her mother. The accused disappeared after committing the offence but was caught and brought to court,” he said.

    The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The accused denied the charge.

    Chief Magistrate Tajudeen Elias admitted the accused to a bail of N2 million in addition to two sureties in like sum.

    He ordered the accused to pay N200, 000 into the court’s registrar’s account as part of the bail condition.

    The case was adjourned to September 9 for mention.
