  • Stephanie Linus wows at Vlisco Luxury Range launch

    Stephanie Linus, who was one of the guests at the Vlisco’s Luxury Range Launch, held on Monday wowed guests at the event with her Trish O. Couture Outfit made with Vlisco’s materials.

    Stephanie showed off her fab style in a vlisco print dress and jacket.

    The Nollywood actress who has been a Vlisco ambassador said non-Nigerians at the event could not help admiring the fabric she had on.

    “Oh yes! It’s your fabric,” she said.

    “They can’t help but admire their own print.”

    Stephanie who is also a director and model has received several awards including the 2003 Reel Award for Best Actress, the 2006 Afro Hollywood Award for Best Actress, and three nominations for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2005, 2009 and 2010. She was also the runner up for the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria beauty pageant of 2002.

    In 2011, she was honoured by the Nigerian government with a national awards. And have done some movies which have given her recognition outside the shores of Nigeria.

    Stephanie Linus takes human trafficking protest to Italy

    IN view of the increased rate of human trafficking being experienced by Nigerians trying to migrate to Europe via Libya, actress and film producer Stephanie Linus visited Italy recently to give support to rescued people and raise her voice against human rights violations.

    Her intervention is in partnership with the world-renowned international medical humanitarian organisation, Doctors Without Borders (MSF).

    Over the next few days, Mrs. Linus will visit the rescue ship ‘Aquarius’ to witness their activities and operations. Later, she will have meetings with some of the vulnerable women; participate in rehabilitation exercises for the rescued women, media parleys and stakeholder meetings with the aim of alleviating their sufferings and preventing more girls and women from falling prey.

    Doctors Without Borders is one of the most impactful humanitarian organisations that rescues thousands of people who faced hazardous conditions trying to enter Europe through the sea yearly. In 2017, the Aquarius (a rescue ship) rescued 15,078 people.

    Mrs. Linus has been at the forefront of advocacy over sensitive issues that affect the rights of women and girls. She has done this through several channels such as her advocacy movie – DRY, her role as UNFPA Ambassador; her charity organization, Extended Hands Foundation and many more.

    An increasing number of women, mainly from Nigeria, are being trafficked to Europe for sexual exploitation. According to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), there has been an almost 600% increase in the number of potential sex trafficking victims arriving in Italy by Sea since 2014. Many of these women were kidnapped against their will or lured with the promise of greener pastures.

    Stephanie Linus to speak at 8th GES

    Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Stephanie Linus, will be speaking alongside the Advisor to the US President, Ivanka Trump at the 8th edition of Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) billed to hold in India from November 28, 2017 to November 30, 2017.

    Mrs Linus will also be speaking alongside Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent dignitaries.

    The Summit which will take the city of Hyderabad is jointly organised by the United States and the Republic of India.

    According to information, this year’s summit will highlight the theme, ‘Women First, Prosperity for All’ and will focus on supporting women entrepreneurs, solving 21st century challenges, and fostering economic growth globally.

    GES this year will be attended by more than 1500 global entrepreneurs and investors who will have the chance to interact with India’s most enterprising individuals who have pioneered innovation and generated immense value creation for not just Indian economy but global economy.

    These participants hail from 150 countries and territories. Women from 127 countries are participating and more than 10 countries will be represented by an all-female delegation.

    Ms Linus was selected as a Speaker for her globally recognised works as an actress and filmmaker, and also for her humanitarian work. Her latest film, ‘Dry’, focused on challenges of women suffering VVF.

  • NNPC/SNEPCo and Stephanie Linus repair 35 VVF patients

    THE Extended Hands Foundation, a non-governmental organisation founded by Nollywood actress and producer, Stephanie Linus, with sponsorship from NNPC/SNEPCo has completed the successful repair of 35 Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) patients in Kebbi State. The pool effort took place at the Ministry of Women Affairs & Social Development VVF Center in Gesse, Birin-Kebbi and received the co-operation of the Kebbi State Government.

    Stephanie, whose movie, Dry, tackles the issues of child bride and VVF, was received by the state governor, Dr Abubakar Bagudu and the First Lady, Dr Zainab Bagudu.

    The actress who spent some time with the women at the VVF Center during the course of the exercise, expressed her appreciation to the sponsors of the pool effort – NNPC/SNEPCo for investing in this cause. She also added that this was the second time the foundation was carrying out such an exercise in Kebbi State.

    The team of medical staff was led by Dr Sa’ad Idris, a seasoned VVF Surgeon and former Commissioner for Health in Zamfara State with over 20 years’ experience in the field. He was assisted by Dr Abubakar Bawa, and other doctors and nurses at the VVF Center.

  • Stephanie Linus named UNFPA Ambassador

    NOLLYWOOD actress Stephanie Linus has been appointed regional ambassador for United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The unveiling ceremony was held on Wednesday, March 8, at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

    Speaking at the unveiling, the UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin said that celebrities have lent their voices to help people to make the right decisions; among them is Stephanie, who is a strong advocate for the health of the girl-child.

    In her acceptance speech, the mother of one said she is honoured being given the role as UNFPA’s regional Goodwill Ambassador for maternal health in West African region.

    “I am honoured to partner with UNFPA to create an enabling environment for women, girls and every young person to fulfil their potential,” said Linus who in 2015 produced a movie, ‘Dry’, which focuses on VVF, a health crisis which affects young girls exposed to early sex.

    “I will work closely with the fund to draw attention to the work that still needs to be done across the region to increase universal access to comprehensive sexual reproductive health services and information in order to stop women from dying in the course of bringing forth new life, to empower women and girls to choose freely for themselves, if, when and how often to get pregnant, and to protect the rights and dignity of young people to enable them thrive and be the best they can be.”

    Stephanie Linus excites at Vlisco Award Night

    NOLLYWOOD star, Stephanie Linus, graced the Vlisco Women’s Month Award Night on Sunday, March 30, amidst pomp and circumstance.

    The actress, who is the face of this year’s International Women’s Day campaign, appeared in a short printed Vlisco gown with silver accompaniments designed by Mon Ami.

    The ceremony held as part of the celebrations to honour the achievements of West and Central African women by identifying and rewarding those who inspire others to realise their dreams.

    For the awards this year, Vlisco nominated women from Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Togo, Ivory Coast and Democratic Republic of the Congo.

    Adesuwa Onyenokwe, Publisher and Editor-In-Chief of TW Magazine, won the Vlisco Women’s Month Award for Nigeria and was presented with her award during the event. The winner of the Vlisco Fashion Fund was also presented with her award and cash prize. Among the stars who graced the occasion were singer Waje and actress Joke Silva.
