    Police recover vehicle stolen at gunpoint in Abuja

    The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recovered a black 2013 Toyota Camry with registration number YAB-479BG. 

    The car was stolen at gunpoint at Nipco Junction, Abuja.

    The police said the incident, which occurred on January 20, 2025, at approximately 10:00pm left the victims traumatized but unharmed. 

    According to a statement on Wednesday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh: “the development once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property. 

    “According to the report filed at Trademore Police Station, a young woman and her fiancé were driving home from Lighthouse Estate when they were intercepted by armed robbers in a blue Toyota Corolla. The assailants, brandishing firearms, fired warning shots into the air before ordering the occupants to exit the vehicle, which they subsequently commandeered.

    “Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Trademore Division immediately activated an emergency response. In collaboration with the Command’s control room, all police units, including patrol vehicles, checkpoints, entry and exit points within and around the FCT, were placed on high alert.

    “Demonstrating swift professionalism and leveraging advanced digital tracking technology, the stolen vehicle was traced to Zuba within hours of the robbery. Acting on precise intelligence, officers swiftly moved to the location and recovered the vehicle intact. Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects, who are being actively pursued by the Command’s tactical teams.

    “The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, commended the exceptional efforts of the Trademore Division and other officers involved in the operation. He emphasized the importance of installing digital tracking systems in vehicles to aid swift recovery in similar situations.

    “In his remarks, the Commissioner reiterated the Command’s resolve to ensure the safety of all residents within the FCT, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. He further assured residents of the Command’s readiness to respond swiftly and decisively to criminal threats.

    Operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on Monday, while patrolling Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, recovered a stolen vehicle, an ash colour Toyota Camry car, registered as KTU 765 DV.

    Ogun State Sector Commander Clement Oladele, who confirmed the incident, said a motorist, who was stopped by operatives, reported an accident at Ramona trailer park in Ogere and the team rushed there.

    He said on getting to the scene, the operatives saw the driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle.

    Oladele said the operatives contacted Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Iperu to tow the car, but noticed inconsistency in the statement by the driver and they became suspicious.

    He said the team leader found a Union Bank teller in the car and wanted to call a number he saw inside it, but the driver resisted.

    “Eventually, the leader called the number and a woman who picked the call, said she is a naval officer. Her identity card was found inside the car.

    “The woman said the car belonged to her and that it was stolen this morning (Monday). She implored the FRSC operatives to apprehend the suspect and hand him over to the police, as she had reported the theft at Shogunle Police Station, Lagos,” Oladele said.

    He added that the suspect has been handed over to Iperu Police Station.

    The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Monday recovered at an accident scene, a Toyota Camry car stolen in Lagos same day.

    The Toyota car said to belong to a female naval officer, was stolen from her in Lagos in the morning but the suspect (driver) while fleeing with it, crashed at the Ramona Trailer Park, Ogere along Lagos – Ibadan expressway.

    The Nation gathered that while Operatives of the FRSC on patrol were rescuing him, they discovered that the vehicle was just stolen in Lagos some hours earlier.

    The Route Commander and FRSC Public Education officer, Florence Okpe, who confirmed this on behalf of the Sector Commander, Clement Oladele, in a statement, said a motorist notified the Operatives of the accident which prompted them to race to the scene.

    “An ash coloured Toyota Camry with Reg no   KTU 765 DV was recovered from a suspect while on patrol along the Lagos/Ibadan expressway at about 1130hrs on December 4, 2017.

    “A motorist who stopped by the FRSC team had reported a road traffic crash at Ramona Trailer park Ogere and the team quickly moved to the scene.  On getting to the scene the FRSC patrol team were able to secure the driver who was the only occupant of the vehicle.

    “The FRSC team subsequently contacted  MTD Iperu for a tow vehicle to remove the capsized vehicle off the road but while interrogating the driver the FRSC team noticed inconsistency in his statement which became reasonable to suspect foul play, hence the team leader quickly put a call to the number found on a Union Bank teller in the car which the driver  bluntly resisted the team from making any phone call.

    ” The team insisted and  called the phone number and a lady who picked the call and claimed to be a naval officer whose identity card was  found by the FRSC team in the car which also corresponded with the name given, the same person said the vehicle belong to her and it was stolen this morning (04/12/2017)  and pleaded that the FRSC team should do everything possible to hand the driver over to the police as she had already reported the case to Shogunle police station in Lagos.

    “The FRSC Sector Commander Corps Commander Clement Oladele confirmed the recovered vehicle and the suspect (driver) have been handed over to the  Iperu Police Station,” Okpe stated.

    Alleged driver of stolen vehicle arrested

    A Lagos driver, Shaibu Ali Adejoh, who allegedly stole a Toyota Camry 2008 model car, belonging to his employer, has been arrested by the police in Kogi State.

    A source said the suspect, 29, who allegedly stole the car in Lagos, was nabbed at Ashigili in Dekina Local Government by men of the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

    The source said the car, painted in blue, was registered as Lagos KRD 412 EX.

    He said the suspect, who was on a salary of N45,000, perfected the plan to steal the car, having confirmed that the owner, Mrs. Mary Musa, would travel to overseas.

    The Nation learnt that the suspect was arrested, following a tip-off by the chief of his community, who after suspecting the source of his “sudden wealth”, notified security operatives.

    Parading the suspect with 15 others, police spokesman Williams Aya said the onslaught against criminals was on.

  • Court remands two students for possession of stolen vehicle

    A Gudu Upper Area Court in FCT on Wednesday remanded two students, Mohammed Aminu and Ibrahim Maigari, in prison for allegedly being in possession of a stolen vehicle.

    The Presiding judge, Mr Umar Kagarko, ordered that the defendants be remanded till May 10 for conclusion of investigations and consideration of application for bail.

    Aminu, 24, and Maigari,24, are facing a four-count charge of criminal conspiracy, trespass, possession of suspected stolen vehicle and membership of a robbery gang.

    They both pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    Prosecutor Fidelis Ogbobe had told the court that Pius Labari of First Bank, Area 3, reported the matter at Garki Police Station on March 6.

    Ogbobe said that the defendants criminally conspired and trespassed into the complainant residence with the intention of committing an offence.

    “In the course of police investigations, a black Honda CRV vehicle, RDC 685 AE, suspected to be stolen was recovered in the defendants’ custody.

    “It was also discovered that the defendants belonged to a gang of thieves who specialise in trailing unsuspecting victims from banks and dispossessing them of their property,’’ Ogbobe said.

    The prosecutor said that the offence contravened sections 97, 348, 319(a) and 306 of the Penal Code.

    Abia police recover stolen vehicle

    The police in Aba, Abia State, have recovered a Lexus 330 belonging to an Aba-based businessman. Some hoodlums, last week attempted to kidnap the businessman but the attempt was foiled by the police. The hoodlums escaped in the man’s vehicle.

    Sources within the police command said the car was recovered near Okpu Umuobo on the outskirts of Aba, by a patrol team who were acting on a tip-off.

    The owner’s whereabouts remain unknown but the source said the police would intensify the search for the hoodlums.
