  • Police arraign businessman for swindling farmer of N2m

    A businessman, Oladepo Jayeoba, 50, who the police accused of defrauding a farmer of N2 million, on Wednesday appeared in an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun.

    The police charged Jayeoba with fraud and stealing.

    The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Oct 31, at Ile-Ife.

    Osanyintuyi said that the accused obtained N2 million from a farmer, Elugbaju Taiwo with a promise to supply him cocoa seeds.

    He said that the accused converted the sum to his personal use.

    According to him, the offence contravenes the provisions of sections 383, 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

    After arraignment, defense counsel, Lere Ayinde, pleaded with the court to admit his client to bail on the most liberal terms.

    Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode, granted the prayers and and admitted the accused to bail in the sum of one million with two sureties in like sum.

    Ijiyode ordered that sureties must swear to an affidavit of means, reside within the court jurisdiction and provide substantial sureties.

    He also ordered that one of the sureties must not be below GL06.

    Ijiyode adjourned the case until Feb 4, 2019.

  • Man in court over alleged N1.2m theft

    A 55-year-old man, Adeteti Ojo, was on Wednesday docked at an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun over alleged N1.2 million theft.

    The accused is facing a four-count charge bordering on fraud, stealing and threat to life.

    The Prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offences in 2016 and 2017 at Zenith bank and Fidelity bank branches located at Lagere, Ile-Ife.

    Osanyintuyi said that the accused stole the sum from one Mr Taiwo Omisakin and maliciously broke a contract between them.

    “The intention of the accused was to defraud the complainant of N 1. 283 million by obtained the money under the pretenses of supplying to him,  cocoa beans worth the said amount.

    “On October 20, at 06:00a.m. at Idita Quarters, Mokuro Road, Ile-Ife, the accused threatened to stab the complainant with a sharp object,’’ he said.

    The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 86, 305A (2), 383 and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

    The Magistrate, Mr Olalekan Ijiyode, granted him N200,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.

    He said that the sureties must resides within the court’s jurisdiction.

    The magistrate adjourned the case until Nov 23, for hearing.

  • Court remands woman over alleged assault on police officer

    An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun, on Friday, remanded one Mistura Akinlabi, 35, in prison custody over alleged assault on a police officer.

    The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 6, 2018 around 11:30 am, at “A” Division Police Station, Moore, Ile-Ife.

    Osanyintuyi said the accused assaulted one W/SP Folasade Ogunshola, the Divisional Crime Officer, by beating her in her office.

    He added that the accused conducted herself in a manner that caused breach of peace by misbehaving at the police station.

    According to him, the offence contravened sections 249 (d) and 352 (2) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to two-count charge of assault and breach of peace.

    The Defence Counsel, Mr Ben Adirieje, applied for her bail, promising that she would not jump bail.

    Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode, however declined to grant the oral bail application, asking the counsel to submit written application for consideration.

    Ijiyode, therefore, ordered the remand of the accused in Ilesa prison and adjourned the case till Aug. 1.

  • Court remands 21-yr-old for allegedly stabbing friend while asleep

    An Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Friday remanded one Olaleye Suyi, 21, for allegedly stabbing his friend, Oladele Kayode,  in the face while asleep.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 15 at about 11.30 am at Line 3, Aladanla Street, Ile-Ife.

    Osanyintuyi said that the accused caused Kayode grievous harm by allegedly stabbing him with a knife in the face several times due to a misunderstanding.

    He said that the offence contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of causing grievous harm.

    The defence counsel, Mr Olalekan Babatunde, urged the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

    He promised that his client would not jump bail and would produce reliable sureties.

    The Magistrate, Olalekan Ijiyode, however, directed the defence counsel to present  a formal application for bail.

    Ijiyode also ordered that the accused be remanded in Ile-Ife prison pending the hearing of the bail application.

    He adjourned the case till July 13 for hearing.

    Court remands man over assault of special marshals

    An Osun Magistrates’  Court sitting in Ile-Ife  on Wednesday  remanded  one Adegoke Adekanmi, 36, in prison for alleged obstruction and assault.

    The accused was arraigned on a  five-count charge of attempting  to commit felony, obstruction, assault, slapping and kidnapping of  special marshals.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offences  on Nov. 14 at  about 8:35 am at  OAUTHC area of  Ile-Ife.

    Osanyintuyi said  the accused assaulted two special marshals, Omopo Idowu and Oderinde Zacheus,  by slapping them  while performing  their lawful duties.

    He further said  that the accused  attempted to kidnap the duo.

    The prosecutor also said the accused obstructed one police officer, Tajudeen Agbaje,  attached to “A” Division in  Ile-Ife by forcing him into  his car while performing his lawful duty.
    The offences, he said,  contravened Sections 356 (2) and 509 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The defence counsel, Mr Samuel Judge, who applied for the bail of his client, pledged to produce reliable sureties.

    Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode, however, rejected  the oral bail  application and asked  defence counsel to produce a written application.

    Ijiyode  ordered the remand of the accused at  Ile-Ife prison pending the consideration of his bail application.

    The magistrate adjourned the case till  Dec.  22  for hearing of the bail application.

    Court remands three persons over possession of cannabis sativa

    An Osun Magistrates’ Court in Ile-Ife on Wednesday remanded Maria Oladunjoye, Taoreed Olajiire and Blessing Ebuka in prison over alleged possession of  cannabis sativa popularly known as Indian hemp.

    Oladunjoye, 48, Olajide, 38 and Ebuka, 20, are facing two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful possession of Indian hemp, to which they pleaded not guilty.

    The Magistrate, Olalekan Ijiyode, ordered that the defendants be remanded at Ilesa prison, pending hearing on their bail application.

    He asked the Defence Counsel, Ben Adirieje, to make written application for the bail and adjourned the case until Dec. 18 for mention.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sunday Osanyintuyi, had told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Nov. 23 at Seventh Day Adventist Hospital Area in Ile-Ife.

    Osanyintuyi said the three conspired to commit felony and unlawfully had lndian hemp with them.

    He added that the defendants were caught with a bus-full of the substance suspected to be Indian hemp, which was unlawfully obtained.

    According to him, the offence contravenes sections 430 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

    Man charged with forgery of varsity’s statement of account

    Mutiu Adedokun, an employee of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife in Osun, who is standing trial for allegedly forging the Postgraduate College’s statement of account to cover up a N221, 000  fraud, was on Monday released on a bail of N200, 000.

    An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court which gave the ruling, also granted Adedokun one surety in like sum.

    Magistrate Risikat Olayemi said the surety must swear to an affidavit of means and be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

    In addition, she said the surety must be a civil servant of not less than Grade Level 05.

    Adedokun, 36, is facing a three-count charge of fraud, stealing and forgery.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offences between April 28, 2015 and Jan. 1, 2016 at Obafemi Awolowo University.

    Osanyintuyi alleged that the accused collected N221, 000 from the complainant, Capt. Bukola Olanrewaju with a promise to help him to pay his school fees.

    “The accused collected the N221, 000 from Olanrewaju and converted the money to his own.”

    According to him, the accused also forged the university’s postgraduate college’s statement account to perpetrate the fraud.

    The offences, he noted, contravened Sections 383, 390 (9), 419, 465 and 467 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun.

    The accused pleaded not guilty and his lawyer, Mr Oluwafunso Adedokun, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms, promising he will not jump bail.

    The case was adjourned until Sept. 27 for hearing.

    Court remands nursing mother, three-month-old baby

    An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Wednesday remanded in prison a businesswoman, Uche Portia, with her five-month-old baby, pending the perfection of her bail condition.

    Portia, 29, is facing a change of fraud and stealing.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Dorcas Ajiboye, had granted the accused N200, 000 bail with one surety in like sum.

    She said the surety must swear to an affidavit of means and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

    In addition, the surety must produce three years tax clearance and provide two recent passport photographs.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on July 16 at Igboye House, Ile-Ife.

    Osanyintuyi said the accused fraudulently obtained N335,000 from the complainant, Mrs Oluwaseyi Sijuwade, with a promise to supply her 50 bags of rice, but failed to do so.

    The offence contravened Sections 383, 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.

    The accused pleaded not guilty and her lawyer, Mr Ben Adiereje, urged the court to grant bail on liberal terms, saying she will
    not jump bail.

    The case has been adjourned until Sept. 1 for hearing.

    Court remands man over alleged cell phone theft

    An Osun Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ile-Ife, on Thursday ordered the remand of one Eluwale Abayomi, 23, in prison for allegedly stealing a cell phone valued at N100,000.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 19, 2017 around 2 p.m. at Adedoyin Way, Mayfair, and Ile-Ife.

    Osanyintuyi said that the accused conspired with others now at large to commit the offence.

    He said that the accused stole one Techno C9 handset valued at N100, 000, property of one Olubunmi Martins.

    According to him, the offence was contrary to and punishable under Sections 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2002.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count-charge of conspiracy and stealing.

    The Magistrate, Olalekan Ijiyode, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until June 30, for hearing.

     

  • Two docked over N5.7m fraud

    Two men were on Wednesday arraigned in an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court, Osun, over alleged N5.7 million fraud.
    The defendants- Adeyemi Oyewole, 46, and Awobode Owojori, 35, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and fraud.
    The prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused persons committed the offences sometimes in March, 2017 at Arubidi Area of Ile-Ife.

    He alleged that the defendants obtained N5.7 million from one Randy Mucus, under false pretence of preparing protection charm for the complainant..
    The prosecutor told the court that the accused persons rather converted the said money to their own use.
    He said that the offences contravened Sections 383, 390 (9), 419 and 515 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.
    The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
    Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode, granted both accused persons bail in the sum of N100, 000, each, with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case until June 5, for hearing.
