    SUNU Nigeria’s Free Mammogram/Breast cancer screening receives positive feedback

    SUNU Assurances Nigeria Plc, a leading insurance company and SUNU Health Nigeria Limited, a reputable health maintenance organisation (HMO) in Nigeria, have received positive feedback from beneficiaries of its recent free 3D mammogram-breast cancer screening initiative.

    The programme was launched to raise awareness about breast cancer and provide early detection services, was widely lauded by participants.

    SUNU Nigeria reiterated its commitment to promoting preventive healthcare and empowering women.

    Through the offering of free breast cancer screenings, the company aims to reduce the burden of breast cancer and improve the overall health and well-being of Nigerian women.

    The initiative, which took place at DIAMED Centre, located at heart of Lekki, Lagos, attracted a large number of women from diverse backgrounds. The screening process, which included mammograms and clinical breast examinations, was conducted by experienced medical professionals.

    Mrs Ajayi Funmilola, one of the 100 women who benefited from the screening exercise expressed her gratitude to the company. “I’m so grateful to SUNU Nigeria for providing this free advanced mammogram screening.

    Of course, early detection is key, and this initiative has given me peace of mind. Thank you for prioritising women’s health”.

    Another beneficiary, Arogudade Feyisayo said, “The 3D mammogram screening offered by SUNU Nigeria was a game-changer.

     It was a quick, painless, and thorough experience. I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity to benefit from this initiative, I hope the company continue to be productive as they continue and increase the tempo in the future”.

    Commenting on the initiative, Head of Corporate Services at SUNU Assurances Nigeria Plc, Mrs. Yusuf Japari highlighted the importance of corporate social responsibility, stating that the free mammogram screening is just one example of the company’s commitment to improving public health.

    Mrs Yusuf stated, “At SUNU Nigeria, we believe in giving back to the community. By providing free 3D mammogram screenings, we’re not just offering healthcare; we’re empowering women to prioritize their health and well-being.     SUNU Nigeria’s free cancer screening for 100 women

    As part of its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, SUNU Nigeria is set to conduct free cancer checks for 100 women.

    The programme titled: “Free Mamogram for 100 Women” is targeted at fighting against breast cancer in the country.

    The company in a statement said the company joined the fight against breast cancer as part of its corporate social responsibility commitment to the people.

    The statement read: “SUNU Nigeria which includes SUNU Assurances Plc and SUNU Health believes that discovering breast cancer early is part of the ways to prevent deaths from breast cancer.

    “Breast cancer is easier to treat if found early, when it’s small and has not spread”.

    She disclosed that mammogram will take place from today, October 30 to Saturday November 2, 2024 at DIAMED Center, Plot 7&8 T.F Kuboye Road, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

    IWD: ‘SUNU Group has 50% women’

    SUNU Group is a gender- friendly company with 50 per cent women in its employ as Managing Director and Deputy Managing Directors at the international level, the Managing Director/CEO, SUNU Assurances Plc, Mr. Samuel Ogbodu, has said.

    He made this known during a special ceremony organised by the Group to celebrate SUNU women and the National Association of Insurance and Pension Editor (NAIPE) women on the International Women’s Day.

    Addressing the women at the SUNU Assurances Headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos, Ogbodu  said the Group has 37 companies in 17 countries.

    He said at SUNU Group alone, there are seven members of which four are men and women three.

    On this year’s theme, “Inspire inclusion”, he said it aligned with the core values and aspirations they hold dear at SUNU Group.

    He said: “International Women’s Day serves as a powerful reminder of the remarkable achievements of women throughout history and the ongoing journey towards gender equality. It is a day to celebrate the strength, resilience, and contributions of women in every sphere of life.

    “Inspire Inclusion calls upon us to reflect on the importance and value of inclusivity in our workplaces, communities, and beyond.     The founder and President, SUNU Group Mr. Pathe’ Dione, had set the highest corporate governance standard, it was  said.

    Dione, who passed away last year at 81, had envisioned a conglomerate that would thrive beyond his family and so he put in place a Trust Deed to manage the Group.

    To mark the first anniversary of the death of Mr. Dione, a day-long event was held across the countries.

    In Nigeria, a mass was held at the Catholic Chaplaincy Centre, College of Medicine and Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba Lagos while a Koranic reading was held at the NTA Mosque, Alunadu Delio Way, Victoria Island, Lagos.

    Also, a film on his life and career was shown at the Ebony life Cinema, Victoria Island, Lagos.

    The company announced that a foundation would be set up in honour of its late founder.

    The Managing Director/CEO, SUNU Assurances Plc, Mr. Samuel Ogbodu, described the late Dione as an eminent player in the financial services sector, who devoted his life to the development of Africa by Africans and for Africans.

    He said the late founder lived his vision in the insurance and other financial services sector.

    Ogbodu confirmed that the founder put in place a trust where he put in people, including his children, that would run the company.

    He said: “The trust indicates that SUNU Group would continue to run for life. Even the children cannot take over the company. There is a trust deed already that manages the company.This is exceptional because most owner companies, especially those founded by individuals, die and crumble when the founder dies. But this will not be the case for SUNU Group.

    “Our late founder did marvellous things. For instance, he was able to establish the solo group which comprises several insurance companies, health insurance, banking and microfinance, among others. He was able to do this in 17 African countries. In totality, he established 34 companies in 17 African countries. It’s hard to find an individual to do this. He had done very well for our profession and humanity.

    “He employed many people, which trickle down to many families. He also developed human resources. The greatest asset of any nation can have are the human resources. He believed so much in training and development of staff. For me, I have gained a lot since I met him. He was an erudite person and we are all are grateful to him.”

    On how the company intends to keep his legacy alive, Ogbodu said a celebration would be held yearly for the late founder.

    Besides, he said a Pan-African Prize called the Pathe Dione Prize would be established in the countries where the SUNU Group is present.

    The Managing Director, SUNU Health, Dr. Patrick Chukwuemeka Korie, said Mr Dione was a great pan-Africanist.

    “He is a man who started off from financial services to health, hospitality services, estate and among others. All this were developed in Africa for Africans.

    “He has companies in 17 African countries and is still expanding in  Anglo and francophone. He believed we had the resources and he did put in effort and inspiration.

    “Today, the resources are here and we have a pan-African country, all from the fruit of his labour. He has left a path and we are striving to keep that path in the health services. He left a path for us to follow and it is, ‘Humanity is the Centre of our Ambition’.

    “So, what he is thinking of is the entire human race because he said humanity is a centre of his ambition,” he added.

    With a turnover of 234 billion FCFA (357 million euros) by the end of 2021 and more than 567 billion FCFA (865 million euros), the SUNU Group is the leading life insurer in the Inter-African Conference of Insurance Markets(CIMA).
