  • Two suspected robbers mobbed to death in Delta

    Two suspected armed robbers were on Tuesday beaten to death by an angry mob in Abraka community, Ethiope East council area of Delta State.

    The suspects; Uchenna Ezekonyi, 27 years, and Mbachu Sunday, 30 years, were reportedly beaten to death after a failed robbery attack one Moses Emoghene.

    The deceased suspects, who are from from Oguta in Imo State, had snatched a polythene bag containing the sum of two hundred and fifty thousand naira (N250,000) from Emoghene, who had withdrawn the cash from the Zenith Bank branch in Abraka.

    Events went wrong for the suspects when Emoghene, who had drawn the cash on behalf of the parish priest of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, raised the alarm as he was being attacked by the duo.

    The mob that responded descended heavily on the suspects, beating them so badly that the two of them died before the rescuing policemen could get them to the hospital.

    When contacted, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeyinka Adeleke, confirmed the report, saying, “yes. It happened”.

    Gunmen attack Kano town, kill one, others injured

    Suspected armed robbers, Monday reportedly attacked Garo town in Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State, killing one person, while two others suffered varying degree of injuries.

    According to an eyewitness account, Abdulmumuni Abubakar Tsanyawa, the suspected robbers, earlier targeted a businessman in the town to attack him but unfortunately, for them, the bizman was not within the neighbourhood.

    Following the absence of their target, they promptly raided and set ablaze five shops, destroying properties, worth millions of naira.

    According to him, the attack, which started at about 11 pm, forced residents to flee the area to safe haven.

    Confirming the robbery attack, the Spokesman of the Kano State Police Command, DSP Musa Magaji Majiya, said: ”Some robbers invaded Garo town in Kabo Local Government Area of the State. Their motive was to attack a businessman in the area but unfortunately, they failed to find their target.”

    Majia, explained that the robbers opted to attack shops, within the town, razing five shops in the process.

    He said, no sooner the police received a distress call than some crack police officers were drafted to the scene, during which one of the robbers was gunned down, while the other two in a desperate attempt to escape suffered fractures on their legs.

    However, he said investigations has commenced, stressing that the police is determined to nab the fleeing accomplices.

    Men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Cross River State Police Command shot five suspected armed robbers dead Monday in Calabar, the Nation gathered.

    It was gathered the robbers had carried out an operation along IBB Way, but while they were escaping, were intercepted by the SARS squad, who chased them and gunned them down along Barracks Road.

    There was a gun battle before the suspected robbers were killed an eye witness said.

    It was gathered that the vehicle the robbers used was razed by an angry mob after the robbers were killed.

    Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident.

    “Yes five were gunned down after a gun battle and a chase from SARS at Barracks Road. They had robbed around that axis when our men were alerted and chased them. There was a shootout and five of them were gunned down,” Ugbo said.

    She said some weapons and cash were recovered from the robbers.

    Two suspected armed robbers Thursday attacked a bank customer, fleecing her of a huge amount of money.

    The incident occurred at Annex Bus Stop, Apapa, after the woman, said to be a trader had withdrawn the money from the bank.

    It was gathered that the robbers after fleecing the victim, fled towards Koffo Abayomi Street in Apapa.

    They however abandoned their operational vehicle and snatched a motorcycle when they discovered that there was gridlock.

    An eyewitness, Ifeanyi Ikechukwu, who hinted on the incident, said the robbers drove a grey Toyota Camry car.

    He said: “They drove grey Camry ‘big for nothing’ and robbed a woman selling snacks and recharge card near Mobil fuel station at Annex Bus stop.

    “She was said to have gone to the bank to withdraw money to purchase her market, especially recharge cards.

    “The robbers drove through Kofo Abayomi and on meeting traffic; they used their vehicle to hit a commercial motorcycle. They immediately disembarked and snatched the bike from the owner and drove off on it.

    “Although other commercial motorcyclists chased them, they were not able to catch up with them.”

    According to a source, policemen from Apapa Division visited the scene and removed the vehicle.

    The source said they would investigate to ascertain the owner of the vehicle.

    He said: “Per chance the vehicle belongs to the robbers, the vehicle particulars will make it easier for us to arrest them.

    “But if it doesn’t, we will still go to the vehicle licensing organisation to get the details of the owner and ensure they are informed.”

    Meanwhile, Operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Thursday foiled the theft of over 30-meters Light-Up Lagos Project long cable in Ogudu.

    It was gathered that two persons vandalising the cable jumped into a nearby bush upon sighting RRS patrol van.

    The vandals were said to have drawn the concealed cables from the connecting point at the base of a lamp post, before they saw the operatives.

    According to the police, the patrol team leader contacted officials of Lagos State Electricity Board in charge of the area to take over before they continued their routine patrol.

    They were said to have stormed the area around 9:35pm on Sunday on a motorcycle and snatched people’s belongings at gun point.
    Among their victims was Kelvin Igwe of 9, Vijidike Street, off Balogun bus stop, who reportedly described the robbers to the police.
    The suspects were said to have been apprehended during a stop-and-search.
    A locally made pistol, four live cartridges recovered from them and their motorcyle.
    Police spokesperson Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent (SP), said they would be transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Sqaud  (SARS) for further action.
