    The draw for the European play-offs took place at the home of FIFA in Zurich on Monday afternoon as the eight nations that remain in the race for a ticket for the 2014 World Cup found out their opponents and four enticing ties await next month.

    Cristiano Ronaldo and his Portuguese teammates face a tough task to make it to Brazil as they were paired with the Swedish team led by PSG star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

    France will meet Euro 2012 co-hosts Ukraine in another key playoff tie.

    Finally, Euro 2004 winners Greece take on Romania, while surprise package Iceland faces Croatia.

    Goal.com reports that the first legs will be played on November 15, with the returns scheduled to take place four days later.

    NIGERIA’S Golden Eaglets have been handed a tough group after being drawn against defending champions, Mexico, Iraq and Sweden for the FIFA cadet youth championship in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E).

    The official draw conducted on Monday at the Hotel Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, Abu Dhabi saw the Manu Garba team pitched Nigeria in Group F.

    The development means CONCACAF champions Mexico will start the defence of the trophy they won two years ago in Mexico City in Al Ain, Dubai, against Nigeria on October 19.

    The Golden Eaglets have won the U-17 World title three times in 1995, 1993 and 2007.

  • Nigeria’s imports from Sweden hits $825m

    The Federal Government has said that imports from Sweden to Nigeria has steadily increased over the years ,hitting $825 million in 2011/12.

    Foreign Affairs Minister Olugbenga Ashiru made this in Abuja known to a Swedish delegation led by the Minister of International Development Cooperation, Mrs. Gunilla Carlson.

    Ashiru described the relationship between the two countries as ‘’traditionally cordial and very strong’’.

    Pointing out the trade imbalance between both nations, the minister put the exports from Nigeria to Sweden in 2011/12 at $26 millions which he viewed as a huge drop from the $88 million recorded in 2010.

    He called for increased bilateral ties between the two countries for mutual benefits.

    “We assure you that we deeply appreciate our relations, and we’re looking forward to increasing our economic cooperation,” he said.
