  • Man in court for defiling neighbour’s daughter

    A 28-year-oldman, Victor Onyekamuo, who allegedly defiled his neighbour’s under- aged daughter, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

    The defendant, a trader, who resides at Bankole Street, Oregun, Ikeja is being tried for defilement.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed on Feb. 21 at the defendant’s residence.

    Ogu said that the accused sent the girl on an errand and on her arrival shut the door and defiled her.

    The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The accused, however, entered a “not guilty” plea.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Akanni adjourned the case till May 8 for mention.

  • Man arraigned for defiling 2-year-old

    A 21-year-old man, Olusoji Arogun who allegedly defiled his neighbour’s two-year-old daughter, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    The accused, a computer operator, who resides at 65, Ifesowapo St., Ijegun, suburb of Lagos is being tried for defilement.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu told the court that the offence was committed on March 22 at the accused’s residence.

    Ogu said that Arogun defiled the two year-old baby in his house.

    “The accused fingered his neighbour’s daughter until the girl started bleeding.

    “It was the cry of the girl that attracted the neighbours and the accused was apprehended,’’ he said.

    The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    Arogun, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge, and the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni granted him a bail of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Akanni adjourned the case till April 26 for mention.

  • Woman in court over N400,000 theft

    The police on Wednesday arraigned a 22-year-old woman, Mariam Lasisi in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for stealing her employer’s N400,000.

    Lasisi, who works in a petrol station in Aboru, a Lagos suburb and resides at no. 27 Ero Family Street of the same place, is standing trial for theft.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed on March 22 at the filling station.

    Ogu said that the defendant failed to remit the N400,000 she made from sale of cooking gas in the filling station to the company’s account.

    He added that the company’s account was audited and discovered that the defendant did not remit the amount, an offence which contravened Section 278 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    However, Lasisi pleaded not guilty and the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Akanni adjourned the case until April 4 for mention.

  • Two women in court over N9.8m fraud

    Two women who allegedly stole N9.8 million belonging to their employer were on Friday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    The accused – Helen Ayorinde, 30, an accountant, and Oluwafunmilayo Lawal, 30, a cashier, were charged with conspiracy and stealing.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offences were committed between January to February, 2017, at Mohagafar Oil and Gas Ltd, Abule Egba, Lagos.

    Ogu said that the defendants and the manager of the company, who is now at large, conspired to defraud the company of N9.8 million.

    “The owner of the company noticed some discrepancies in the company’s account and he employed the services of external auditors.

    “It was discovered that the two accused and the manager failed to remit N9.8 million to the company’s account,” he said.

    Ogu said that the two accused were apprehended, while the manager escaped.

    The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted them bail in the sum of N2 million each, with two sureties each in like sum.

    Akanni adjourned the case till March 22 for mention.

  • Woman arraigned for cutting off neighbour’s ear

    A 34- year- old woman, Comfort Oloro, was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly cutting off her neighbours’ ear with her teeth.

    The accused, a fashion designer who lives at 5, Aganga Williams Street, Off Haruna Bus Stop, Ogba, a suburb of Lagos, is standing trial for causing grievous harm, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

    The prosecutor, Inspector Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed on June 20 at the accused’s residence.

    Ogu said the victim, Mrs. Gladys Oboh, was separating a fight between the accused and her daughter.

    “The accused bit off Mrs. Oboh’s ear and ran away,” he said.

    The offence contravenes Section 244 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

    She adjourned the case to September 5 for mention.
