    Another tanker explodes in Ibadan as business operators, others count losses

    Business operators on Saturday lost property worth millions of naira to another tanker explosion around Lead City University road, Ibadan Toll gate end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

    The incident which happened at 2:45 pm on Saturday has thrown the owners of the affected shops into agony.

    It was gathered that one of the affected shops was loaded with Computer sets worth millions of naira.

    Also, some of the cars and motorcycles that were packed along the road were razed by fire.

    It could not be confirmed as of press time, if there was any casualty from the incident.

    A source, however, said the driver of the truck and his assistant narrowly escaped death.

    The men of the Oyo State Fire Service ably supported by operatives of the Federal Fire Service were on the ground to bring the situation under control.

    The owner of one of the affected shops who refused to mention her name said, “I just heard a bang from outside. Initially, I mistook it for a gunshot.

    “Before I realized what was happening, the atmosphere had been enveloped with thick smoke.

    “Calls were put through to the Fire Services. But before they arrived, the deed had been done. I have lost everything to the inferno. I don’t know where to start again.”

    Also, the sympathizers blamed the incident on the diversion occasioned by the ongoing rehabilitation of the road in the area.

    But a source said the driver of the truck and his motor boy narrowly escaped death by the whiskers.

    Operatives of Oyo State Fire Service supported by the Federal Service were on ground to bring the situation under control.

    Confirming the incident, the General Manager of Oyo State Fire Service, Rev. Akinyinka said his men are on the ground at the scene of the incident.

    He said the men of the State Fire Services have been able to put the spread of the fire to other shops in check.

    A tanker exploded on Tuesday evening on Otedola Bridge along Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, causing panic among commuters on the route.

    The Nation learnt the incident has resulted in traffic congestion on both lanes of the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.

    The explosion, according to eyewitnesses, occurred around 8 p.m which ignited a fire spreading rapidly.

    Reacting, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that LASEMA’s Tiger Response Team is on the scene working to bring the situation under control.

    Tension as petrol-laden tanker explodes in Osun

    From Toba Adedeji, Osogbo

    There is palpable tension in Ijabe community in Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State on Saturday after a fuel-laden tanker exploded while commuting the road.

    The Nation gathered that the incident occurred around noon when the tanker which was heading toward Kwara State suddenly exploded.

    There is no casualty as at the time of filing this report but men of the Fire Service are on ground to put out the fire.

    The incident caused heavy gridlock along the road as commuters were forced to take alternative routes.

    Some residents of the community joined Fire Service men to extinguish the fire.

    A resident of the community named John said, “the tanker was going towards Offa, Kwara State when it suddenly caught fire at Ijabe. We fled, we don’t know where the driver is, but we were told that he escaped with his motorboy.”

    When contacted, the spokesperson of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Osun State Command, Kehinde Adeleke confirmed the incident.

    She said “A Thirty-three thousand liters tanker fully loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) is on fire presently at Ijabe town, right on the highway which links Osun state with Kwara state.

    “The cause of the fire outbreak is yet to be ascertained. The incident has led to blockage of road and has also caused obstruction to vehicular movement, which in turn has brought about panic to the dwellers, travellers and most especially the farmers around the area.”
