President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has celebrated the life and contributions of elder statesman Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, as he reaches the milestone age of 99 on December 5, 2024.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Alhaji Yakassai as a pivotal figure in Nigeria’s political history and a staunch advocate for citizens’ rights.
Highlighting Yakassai’s extensive contributions to Northern Nigeria and the nation at large, the President lauded his enduring commitment to public service and fostering unity.
“His insightful critiques and wise counsel have shaped government policies over the years,” Tinubu stated, referencing Yakassai’s role as a human rights activist and his service as Parliamentary Liaison Officer to President Shehu Shagari during the Second Republic.
President Tinubu also expressed gratitude for Alhaji Yakassai’s unwavering support during the 2023 elections and his belief in the administration’s vision of a united and prosperous Nigeria.
Tinubu assured the nonagenarian of his dedication to fulfilling the trust placed in him by the Nigerian people.
