    $1b National integrated poultry project pilot phase set to commence – Tegbe

    The Director General and Global Liaison of Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership NCSP, Joseph Tegbe has disclosed that the $1 billion National Integrated Poultry Project pilot phase is set to commence.

    Enugu, Kaduna and Oyo states have been selected  for the pilot phase. Tegbe said the project would be expanded to states in other geopolitical zones of Nigeria in the coming year.

    He made the disclosure while speaking on Saturday at the Chinese New Year Temple Fair and the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China. The 2026 Chinese New Year is the year of the horse.

    Tegbe said when completed, “the project will deliver a combined output of six million eggs daily, house over seven million laying birds and more than two million broilers, and cultivate over 60,000 hectares of maize and soybeans.”

    He also noted that “Beyond feedstock for the farms, this initiative will support existing farmers through subsidized feedstock.

    Tegbe who also highlighted China-Nigeria collaboration on steel production said with the revitalization of the Ajaokuta, the country would be expecting an output  of 10 million metric tonnes per annum.

    According to him: “The revitalization of Ajaokuta Steel Complex marks another inspiring chapter in our partnership. Long a symbol of unrealized potential, Ajaokuta is now poised for renewal through collaboration with China. With an expected output of 10 million metric tonnes per annum, a revitalized Ajaokuta will transform Nigeria’s economic trajectory, powering industries, creating jobs, and positioning Nigeria as a leading manufacturing and innovation hub in Africa.”

    He stressed that the government is determined to ensure the country recorded tangible progress that signals the dawn of a new industrial era.

    In the area of Knowledge Exchange and Educational Partnerships, Tegbe said  it has “continued to open doors for Nigerian students to learn from Chinese institutions, while welcoming Chinese scholars to Nigeria. These exchanges are building enduring bridges of knowledge and mutual understanding. In the year ahead, we seek to deepen cooperation through increased scholarships, joint research, and shared innovation, culminating in the development of new industrial parks that will serve as hubs for manufacturing, technology, and shared expertise.”

    NCSP D-G, Tegbe embarks on two-week visit to China

    The Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), Joseph Tegbe has embarked on a two-week working visit to China, marking a significant step in furthering the comprehensive strategic partnership between Nigeria and China, with the goal of building a high-level China-Nigeria community with a shared future.

    Upon arrival, Tegbe was warmly received by representatives of the Chinese Business Community and officials from the Nigerian embassy. 

    He also held an engagement with CSSC Holding Ltd, a leading manufacturer of medical equipment to discuss the upgrade of selected teaching hospitals in Nigeria.

    Tegbe was at the Headquarters of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of the People’s Republic of China where his delegation was received by NDRC Deputy Chairman Mr Zhao Chenxin and other top officials.

    The delegation moved on to the Nigerian Embassy where they interacted with some members of the Nigerian Community in China, as well some visiting members from the Chinese Business Community.

    He also visited the Headquarters of the China Civil Engineering and Construction Company to discuss infrastructure development in Nigeria.

    While in China, he is also expected to engage with more Chinese government officials and participate in a series of strategic meetings aimed at sealing agreements that will bolster the Nigerian economy in key sectors including agriculture, alternative energy, mining, healthcare, education and technology transfer.

    Tegbe’s visit underscores the commitment of both nations to deepen their economic cooperation and foster sustainable development.

    The event brought together influential Chinese companies and investors, alongside reputable Nigerian businesses, to explore opportunities for collaboration within the Nigerian market.

    This groundbreaking forum featured a robust matchmaking session designed to facilitate direct engagements between interested Chinese investors and prominent Nigerian companies.

    Tegbe, in his opening remarks, emphasized the mutual benefits of fostering a closer economic relationship between the two nations.

    He highlighted how strategic partnerships such as these can unlock Nigeria’s economic potential by attracting foreign investment, improving technological transfer, and creating jobs for the local population.

    “The Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership remains committed to fostering synergies that yield tangible benefits for both countries.     The roundtable discussions addressed critical areas such as infrastructure development, renewable energy, manufacturing, and technology, identifying key sectors ripe for investment.

    Participants expressed optimism about the long-term benefits of such collaborations, noting that China’s vast industrial expertise combined with Nigeria’s market potential creates an unparalleled opportunity for economic transformation.

    A highlight of the event was the matchmaking session, where Chinese investors were introduced to reliable Nigerian business partners.

    This initiative is expected to lead to concrete agreements, paving the way for the establishment of joint ventures and other collaborative projects that will boost Nigeria’s economy in line with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

    As the forum concluded, stakeholders lauded President Tinubu’s commitment to fostering a robust partnership with the People’s Republic of China, noting that the activities of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership initiatives are pivotal in furthering a mutually-beneficial relationship between both countries.

    DG Tegbe to China: Tinubu committed to sustainable partnership

    The Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, Joseph Tegbe has assured the Chinese delegates from the China National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of Nigeria’s commitment to a greater relationship with the People’s Republic of China in line with the agreement reached by the Presidents of the two countries; Nigeria and China.

    Tegbe gave this assurance in a statement when he received a delegation of the Chinese Government, represented by senior officials of the China National Development and Reform Commission.

    He noted that Nigeria aims to expand the bilateral relationship from commerce to a mutually-beneficial development partnership involving industrial collaboration and knowledge exchange.

    The leader of the Chinese delegation, Zhang Huanteng noted that further to the agreements reached by the two Presidents in September, the delegation was in Nigeria on an introductory visit, to formally present the signed agreements and highlight the priority areas of the Chinese Government, as stated in the 3-year development plan. 

    He then invited the Nigerian delegation to a follow-up meeting to discuss and agree details of the agreement in Beijing.

    While expressing his pleasure at having the team in Nigeria, Tegbe highlighted the need for the two countries to establish a clear communication mechanism in pursuit of mutual goals as envisaged in the partnership. 

    He reiterated the focus of Nigeria in the areas of Infrastructure, Energy, Mining, Agriculture, Manufacturing, Education and Technology, noting the need for knowledge transfer for mutual benefits.

    While welcoming the delegation on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Honourable Minister for Budget and Economic Planning, H.E Sen Atiku Bagudu thanked them for their hospitality to the Nigerian delegation that visited China in September.

    He recalled that five agreements were signed, with the China National Development and Reform Commission driving three of the agreements and he noted that the Belt and Road initiatives has listed priority projects and collaborative platforms which Nigeria is fully committed to. 

    The Minister assured the Chinese delegation that the Director-General would brief the President on the progress made so far, and the two countries would schedule subsequent meetings to finalize grey areas and put timelines to each initiative.

    JUST IN: Tinubu appoints Tegbe to lead Nigeria-China strategic partnership

    President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership. 

    This move follows the president’s visit to China in early September, where Nigeria and China agreed on key areas of cooperation.

    This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday, September 29, by Special Adviser to the President on Information on Strategy, Bayo Onananuga. 

    Tegbe, a 1988 first-class graduate in civil engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, will report directly to the President. 

    He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. 

    He will immediately submit a strategic action plan to enable Nigeria to benefit from the agreements between the two countries in Beijing. 

    As the czar of the strategic partnership, he will lead day-to-day operations, engage continuously with the Chinese counterparts, and ensure that all deliverables are met and synchronised with national development goals. 

    In the strategic plan, he will outline the specific deliverables, timelines, and key performance indicators for each area of cooperation. This will include priority projects, projected investments and expected socioeconomic outcomes. 

    At the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), President Xi Jinping pledged 360 billion yuan, or about $51 billion, in new financing to African nations in the next three years. He also pledged support for 30 infrastructure projects to boost connectivity across the continent and create one million jobs.  

    During his official visit before the FOCAC, President Tinubu also obtained a commitment from President Xi to support Nigeria’s economic diversification plans, infrastructure development, technology transfer, and job creation. 

    Nigeria and China, among others, agreed to collaborate on expanding Nigeria’s rail network, upgrading power distribution, and creating new industrial parks.  

    The two countries committed to establishing hospital alliances and collaborating on medical research. Under the agreement, Chinese healthcare professionals will be deployed to support Nigeria’s healthcare system. 

    China and Nigeria agreed to collaborate to advance education and talent development, focusing on vocational training, STEM education, and academic exchanges. Joint initiatives, such as establishing engineering technology academies and providing scholarships, will help equip Nigerian youth with skills needed in a modern workforce. 

    The two countries also planned to improve Nigeria’s agricultural practices through knowledge sharing, technology transfer and investment in sustainable farming techniques. 

    Tegbe, who will ensure the actualisation of the agreements, is 58 years old. 

    After his education at Federal Government College, Ogbomosho, and Obafemi Awolowo University, he had about 35 years of experience in business strategy.  

    He was the senior partner and head of advisory services at KPMG in Africa, with a portfolio and responsibilities that included the Middle East. 

    He has worked for many Fortune 500 companies and African conglomerates, advising on strategic planning, investment, and portfolio reviews. 

    He also led subnational governments, such as Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Benue, and Bayelsa, in investment drives to South Africa, Denmark, China, India, Singapore, and the UAE.
