Jealousy, proof of genuine love – Apala

Apala Fusion singer, Terry Apala, has opened up on his views about love, jealousy and trust in relationships, saying men are often more vulnerable than they appear.

Speaking recently, the singer explained that jealousy is proof of genuine love, insisting that no man can claim to be in love and not feel protective of his partner.

“I’m not a jealous lover if I don’t love the person I’m dating. If I love you, I have to be jealous. The only reason you won’t be jealous in a relationship is if you don’t love your partner. As for trust, it comes naturally; it comes with love. The moment you start having a doubting mind towards your partner then there is a problem. Men like to act strong but we are jealous when in love,” he said.

The singer also shared a personal experience, stating that while he would not stop his woman from going to the gym, his attitude would change if he noticed unusual attachment.

“I won’t stop my woman from going to the gym, but when it gets to a point where she talks about a particular guy twice, then there’s a problem. If she’s my wife, then I will ask her to stop going to the gym,” he added.

The Apala Disco crooner has, in recent times, been vocal about balancing music with personal experiences, often reflecting on relationships and emotions in his interviews.

Music artist Terry Apala has sparked controversy by stating that he would never allow his partner to attend a public gym.

Speaking in an interview on Echo Room podcast, Apala shared his experience as a member of iFitness VGC and another gym led him to believe that most women visit gyms to ‘catch’ and create videos rather than work out.

Apala claimed that gyms have become hubs for social interaction and self-promotion, with women prioritising “vibing” and making videos over actual exercise.

While he acknowledged that some women do attend gyms to work out, he asserts that many others go there to “have fun” and “enjoy the vibe”.

“I will not allow my partner to go to the gym. I was a member of iFitness VGC so I’ve been there. I saw what was going down. I feel like ladies of nowadays are just going to the gym to just vibe and do videos. They’re just vibing, they’re not there to actually work out.

“If they really want to work out, they won’t be focused on doing videos. They are just there to seduce men because some men also go to the gym to look for women. I’m speaking from experience. I also once registered with a gym in Megamound Estate. I saw things there. Girls go there to do all manner of things.

“A lot of ladies are just at the gym to have fun. Maybe, few ladies are going to the gym to actually work out, but many of them are just going there to enjoy the vibe,” he expressed.

“So in 2015, I got signed to Nelson Jack because I was the face. I had issues with the record label from the call, they said I am not allowed to drop songs I think for like a year or two. I was not allowed to do anything, no interviews, no shows, like I was not allowed to do anything.”

“All I was doing was to record new songs in my home studio. I was not functioning, I went through hell, but I am back.

“At one point, I was begging for food to eat. But this whole thing taught me more about life. Sometimes, life is always wicked, you have to know what you want. Thank God for the Apala fusion because if I was doing like other sounds, Terry Apala would have gone.”
