Testimony Jaga blends worship with massive community outreach

The One Jesus One Church One Hallelujah Programme, an annual praise, worship, and humanitarian outreach initiative organized by popular gospel music minister Testimony Jaga, recorded another landmark outing as it held its sixth edition, impacting hundreds of lives through worship, empowerment, and social intervention.

The programme, which attracted a massive turnout, featured extended praise and worship sessions led by notable gospel ministers, including Minister Lilian Nneji, Esther Igbekele, Dare Justified, Elijah Daniel, and several other worship leaders who joined Testimony Jaga in leading the congregation to appreciate God through songs and thanksgiving.

Speaking during the event, Testimony Jaga stated that the Hallelujah Programme was established purely to glorify God and serve humanity.

“This programme is about lifting the name of Jesus and appreciating God. This is the sixth edition, and every year I intentionally invite ministers to come and help us worship God and thank Him for all He has done in our lives,” he said.

Unlike conventional gospel concerts, the Hallelujah Programme deliberately combines spiritual activities with structured humanitarian outreach. This year’s edition featured a children’s party, a free medical outreach, and a boxing programme, all designed to engage different segments of the community.

A major highlight of the event was the large-scale distribution of empowerment items and relief materials to beneficiaries drawn from the community and the general public. Items given out included tricycles, bicycles, mini buses, industrial sewing machines, deep freezers, grinding machines, and other valuable equipment aimed at supporting entrepreneurship, mobility, and self-reliance.

Explaining the motivation behind the outreach, Testimony Jaga revealed that the programme is closely tied to his personal background and ongoing scholarship initiative.

“I grew up in Alagbado, Lagos, and I currently have many students there under my scholarship programme. This Hallelujah Programme is anchored on that vision, giving hope, supporting education, and empowering people from the community that raised me,” he explained.

Jaga further disclosed that the initiative is largely self-sponsored, noting that no corporate or institutional body officially partnered with the programme.

“I am the only sponsor of this programme, with support from some of my church members. There is no organization partnering with us in funding or execution,” he said.

However, he acknowledged that some brands showed support through participation.

“We appreciate Kellogg’s and Indomie for lending their presence at the event. Their show of support encouraged the programme,” he added.

According to Testimony Jaga, the ultimate objective of the One Jesus Church Hallelujah Programme is community transformation through giving.

“The purpose is to touch lives and make a real impact in society. Worship should not end on the altar; it must reflect in how we give back and care for people,” he stated.

Beneficiaries and attendees described the programme as both spiritually uplifting and socially impactful, noting that the combination of worship, empowerment, and outreach set it apart from regular gospel events.

Over the years, the One Jesus Church Hallelujah Programme has continued to grow in scope and impact, establishing itself as a faith-driven platform for praise, compassion, and community development, while reinforcing Testimony Jaga’s message that true worship is expressed through service to humanity.

Gospel artist, Testimony Jaga has appealed to the Lagos State Government to urgently intervene in what he describes as a “humanitarian disaster” following the demolition of homes and shops along AIT Road, Kola, and the Powerline axis by officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA).

According to the singer, the government’s operation carried out under the justification that the structures fell within high-tension powerline extensions has plunged countless families into sorrow, homelessness, and in some cases, physical harm. Jaga said many victims are elderly people and widows who have nowhere else to go.

He alleged that despite the government’s earlier claim that the cleared land would be used for the construction of a BRT garage and a Mechanic Village, the same land is now reportedly being allocated to individuals while construction of a mall and rows of shops has begun.

He expressed concern that the government’s shifting plans are raising suspicion among affected residents who originally believed the demolitions were for public infrastructure.

The gospel artist further revealed that landlords in the community allegedly contributed a total of ₦25 million, which they reportedly paid through community channels to the Ministry of Environment, hoping their buildings and businesses would be spared. Instead, he said, the demolitions still went ahead, leaving many feeling cheated and abandoned.

The demolitions, which lasted for days, shattered the lives of hundreds. Many now sleep outside, exposed to rain, mosquitoes, hunger, and the cold Lagos night.

Testimony Jaga urged the government to return to the original development plan of a BRT depot and a Mechanic Village, arguing that these projects would create jobs and improve the economy of the community rather than displacing vulnerable people.

‘This situation is bigger than politics. It is about real human lives, real suffering and real families who have been pushed into despair. These people deserve justice and immediate relief,” said Jaga.

Gospel musician Testimony Jaga has shared testimony of how he gave his life to Christ after a life-changing experience in jail.

In 2011, Jaga said he was wrongfully arrested and jailed for a crime he didn’t commit.

Speaking with Pulse, Jaga said he had been living with a friend who promised to help his music career, but things took a drastic turn when some people came to their house and arrested him for stealing along with everyone else in the house, despite being innocent.

This experience made him realise the harsh reality of life, and he eventually found solace in his faith.

After spending six months in jail, Jaga was cleared of all charges and released.

This marked a turning point in his life, as he decided to give his life to Christ.

He said: “In 2011, I gave my life to Christ after I left jail. I found myself in jail, not because I was a thief or anything. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“Some people wanted to go do something, you know, like stealing. They came to the house where I was staying. I was sharing a house with someone who had promised to sign me.

“I was there, and stuff like that happened. When the police came, they arrested everyone around. That was when I saw the reality of life. I got myself into that mess, but with God’s mercy, I was saved. After six months, I came out of jail and gave my life to Christ.”

Testimony Jaga: I faced harrowing experience as an upcoming singer

Gospel singer Testimony Jaga has shared a harrowing experience from his past, highlighting the importance of a mother’s prayers in protecting her children.

Speaking on the Honest Bunch podcast, Jaga recalled his desperate pursuit of success in the music industry, which led him to associate with a powerful figure who was later revealed to be involved in criminal activities.

Hoping to advance his career, Jaga stayed at the man’s house and performed menial tasks like washing his car, unaware of the danger surrounding him.

However, his world turned upside down when he discovered a gun inside a bag in his room, triggering a chaotic and life-threatening confrontation.

Gunshots rang out, and Jaga found himself in a terrifying situation, struggling to escape while facing accusations of being part of the criminal operation.

He repeatedly asserted his innocence, insisting he was a musician, not a thief.

Jaga also mentioned that his father had given him protective charms to wear, but they proved ineffective during the crisis, reinforcing his belief in the power of prayer over superstitions.

How Testimony Jaga is winning souls with music, charity

As far as gospel music goes, Testimony Jaga, one of that genre’s contemporary torchbearers, is a non-conformist. All over the world, gospel music is about the pure and the holy, sublime, soothing, spiritual, and soul-stirring. But away from the old, predictable style of gospel music, Jaga has taken the road never travelled to be the purveyor of feel-good and spirit-filled gospel music while imprinting his name in the sands of time.

A multiple-awards winning singer, instrumentalist, and producer, Jaga’s infusion of Fuji, otherwise considered backstreet music, to his craft caught on like wildfire and has turned him into a bona fide music star with a rich repertoire including the very popular ‘Biggie Biggie,’ ‘Not Normal’ ft Akpororo, ‘My Style,’ ‘My Evidence’ ft Frank Edwards, and ‘Power in my praise’ among many others.

The Ogun State native whose real name is Salau Aliu describes his style of music as Fuji-pop.

His debut EP, ‘Jesus is Here, Jaga is Here,’ is a seven-tracker that underscores his versatility as he seamlessly blended Fuji, Afrobeats, R n B, highlife, and dancehall to give Christendom an invaluable musical gift. The EP, a reflection of his life’s journey delivered via uplifting lyrics, features collaborations with other gospel singers like Adeyinka Alaseyori, Henrisoul, and Neon Adejo.

Finding Christ at a most vulnerable time in his life, Jaga, a street-savvy boxing buff, has now gone back to the streets but this time as the founder of Street Gospel Movement, an evangelical outreach that employs the twin forces of music and social welfare to win souls for God. According to him, so much is hidden in poverty and that for any man to even want to listen to the gospel; he must have quenched raging hunger.

Also, the convener of the One Jesus, One Church, One Hallelujah, Jaga, a protégé of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, had been stomping Lagos streets under the auspices of what he terms Radical Prayer through which he reaches out to the unemployed, youths, and widows.

“I am passionate about impacting the lives of as many people as possible. The essence of Christianity is actually to spread love, which are the principles I live by. Spreading the gospel to the streets and the ‘unchurched’ (people who don’t attend churches) through my Street Gospel Movement,” Jaga said.

“When people come to our program, we feed them with soul-lifting music, the word of God, and empower them. I believe in making an impact in people’s lives. So far, we have reached out to over 20,000 people since we started. Apart from giving out interest-free cash grants ranging from N100,000 to N250,000, we have given out cars, tricycles, and mini-buses among others,” he said.

Last Christmas, with support from Pastor Oyakhilome, Jaga gifted food items including rice, eggs, and chickens to hundreds of Lagos residents. On January 12, 2024, he will hold his annual mega outreach in the Alagbado area of Lagos.
