  • Edo poll: APC’s victory testimony of good governance, says Okorocha

Edo poll: APC’s victory testimony of good governance, says Okorocha

Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), Rochas Okorocha, yesterday saluted the “doggedness and courage” of the Edo State people for choosing progressive governance, which he said the All Progressives Congress (APC) represents.

The governor, who was reacting to the victory of the APC candidate, Godwin Obaseki, in the just concluded Edo State governorship  election,  noted that the landslide victory recorded by the APC was a testimony of the performance of the party in the state.

He also congratulated the outgoing governor, Adams Oshiomole, for laying a solid foundation that gave the party victory at the poll

According to him, “ the margin with which the APC candidate won the election was an obvious indication that Edo people had refused to go back to Egypt and decided that the progressive light lit by the Adam Oshimole administration in the state should remain aglow.”

He further commended the people of the state for “endorsing progressive governance and also aligning with a progressive party,”  urging other Nigerians still believing the propaganda of the opposition to follow the Edo example.

The Governor  also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for doing a good job in the Edo governorship election.

  • Alleged N15m bribe: Tribunal ends trial without Gaidam’s ADC’s testimony

•Fixes Sept 22 for adoption of final written addresses

The Yobe State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has concluded its trial in the petition challenging the declaration of Ibrahim Gaidam as winner in the April 11 election.

The tribunal ended the trial on Friday without the testimony of the governor’s Aide-de-Camp Zakari Deba, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), accused of paying N15 million into the bank accounts of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Abu Zarma.

As was the case with Zarma on Thursday, Deba, whose lawyer, Titus Ashaolu (SAN), told the tribunal that his client was ready to present his case and testify, failed to attend the proceedings.

Deba and Zarma are named as the fourth and fifth respondents in the petition filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last governorship election, Adamu Waziri and his party. Other respondents are: Gaidam, his party – the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Waziri and the PDP alleged, among others, that Gaidam, in a bid to compromise the REC, made Deba to pay N15 milling into Zarma’s two accounts with two prominent banks.

Ashaolu, on Thursday, told the tribunal that his client was on his way to Abuja, praying that proceedings be shifted till Friday.

But, on Friday, many of those hoping to hear details of how and why the alleged payment was made, were disappointed when Ashaolu announced that his client was no longer willing to testify.

He said: “We met with our client yesterday (Thursday) and, having perused the evidence on record, led by the petitioners and the 1st and 2nd respondents (Governor Gaidam and PDP), we discovered that there is no cause of action against the fifth respondent (Deba) to warrant him being put in the witness box.

“Earlier, we had raised a preliminary objection, which we will further amplify in our written address, to the extent that this tribunal has no jurisdiction to try the fifth respondent and that all actions alleged against the fifth respondent do not affect the conduct of the election. We are closing our case.”

Zarma’s lawyer, Abeny Mohammed (SAN), on Thursay, gave a similar excuse for his client’s absence.

Mohammed said: “The short adjournment afforded me the opportunity to review and evaluate evidence adduced to by the petitioners. Our conclusion is that we are not calling any witness but to rest our case on the case of the petitioner. I, therefore, close the case of the third and fourth respondents (Zarma and INEC) in this petition.”

In the course of the trial, the petitioners called officials of the banks and an investigator with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who testified on the transaction and confirmed the payment.

“We recommended that Deba and Kukawa be prosecuted for attempting to bribe Zarma,” Odofin said.

On Friday, after Asaholu closed his client’s case, the tribunal Chairman, Justice Mojisola Dada announced the end of trial in the petition. She gave the respondents seven days, within which to file and serve their final written addresses; the petitioners, seven days to file their reply addresses, and extra three days for the respondents to reply on point of law.

She adjourned till September 22 for the parties to adopt their final written addresses, following which a date will be chosen for the judgment.

  • LG Nexus 4 testimony

“Before buying the Nexus 4, I needed a good phone. But to me it is an investment. I don’t believe in buying a phone every now and then for the fun of it. It is better than nearly every phone in the market. It is a superior handset In more ways than one. This is a real Nexus.

”I have been using the LG Nexus 4 for close to two months now- it is super. Regarding capacity, I was concerned about it before buying, but now I see I don’t need much. All movies and audio I can get through DLNA from my external drives, with Windows Media Player and ArkMC installed on Nexus 4. Overall, the device is very convenient.

“From my observation, the LG Nexus 4 is also very popular with the younger generation; the phone is more like a status symbol for them. It comes complete with specifications and applications to brag about. When compared to other phones in its league, the Nexus 4 has better resolution, faster processor, newer operating system as well as an ergonomic body. “

That was how Rosemary Osunde a 35 year old woman detailed her thoughts and experience after two months of using the Nexus 4 phone recently introduced by LG Mobile. The computer analyst could not help but say more about the mobile device and all the amazing impact it is having on her performance and productivity level at work and at home.

“This new smartphone from LG comes complete with my favorite Google Apps, an amasing Photo Sphere camera, cutting edge hardware, and access to my favorite entertainment on Google Play – Nexus 4 puts the best of Google in the palm of my hand,” she added.

For Mr Ebere Bieni, a business executive who resides in Lagos, the LG Nexus 4 phone has empowered him in a great amount of ways so much that he depends on his phone to carry out most of his office tasks, as he can easily access files and documents on his phone even when he is not at his work desk. His old phone which also happened to be a Smartphone was grossly ineffective and inept which made him seek to get a new Smartphone that can perform on many levels. When he heard of the new LG Nexus 4 smartphone, he decided to give it a try. And ever since he purchased the LG Nexus 4, he found that he has become more productive and successful at what he does.

His words: “Prior to acquiring the LG Nexus 4 Phone, the smartphone I was using was underwhelming and boring; it had Wi-Fi connectivity issues which made connecting to the internet extremely difficult. The screen was also too small which made deciphering and reading from the phone a herculean task; the battery was also an outstanding issue because it does not last long enough; as a result I had to charge it again and again. Microphone malfunction was another low point of the device.

My wife had requested that I get a new Smartphone, but I declined due to my experiences with most of the smartphones that were available in the market because in my assessment those phones’ ‘highlights’ are mere enhancements of old features or just plain gimmicks.

“Out of annoyance and frustration, I returned to using a feature phone that I have long neglected, but discovered my performance level at work was dropping as I was unable to access my mails as well as social media. All that continued till a friend intimated me on the amazing capabilities of the LG Nexus 4 smartphone. I was a bit apprehensive, but decided to give it a try. But having used it for two months now, I am hooked.

“In terms of price, this phone is simply amazing; I am impressed with Nexus 4’s affordable price and impressive specifications; it is precisely priced to niggle away at the overpriced market; with a flagship phone that leads the way in both hardware and software it is indeed a breath of fresh air to an overpriced consumer market.

“I will also like to point out that it has got the latest processor, amazing performance, 2GB of RAM and internal memory of 16GB. The nexus 4 also works great for games as well as TV. The fast processor makes for buttery smooth running. On the whole, I am highly impressed with what this mobile phone can do.”

The LG Nexus 4 E960 phone was introduced into the Nigerian market in mid-February and it has been enjoying rave reviews with many users finding it to be a refreshing new way to interface with a smartphone.

With the Nexus 4, navigation is a breeze, as users are able to get to the places they care about quickly and easily with Google Maps. With turn-by-turn GPS navigation, live traffic info, and integrated driving, walking and public transit directions, getting from one place to the other has never been easier.

Users can search for nearby restaurants, businesses and more; recommendations from people in their circles and from experts, as well as full place reviews and summaries from Zagat editors are also easily accessible.

3D Maps and rich satellite imagery is another massive feature on this phone as it gives one a more realistic sense of what’s around while features like Street View and Indoor Maps make sure you always know what’s in front of you.

Weighing a mere 139g, the LG Nexus 4  also known as the E960  comes with exciting features such as the Android Jelly Bean Operating System (OS), an 8 Mega Pixel camera, 16 GB internal Memory capacity, 2GB of RAM as well as a 2,100 mAh Li-polymer battery.

The mobile device in a massive way solidifies LG’s position as a brand to be reckoned with in the global smartphone market. Since its introduction it has been highly rated by phone pundits.

LG Nexus 4 is a powerful unlocked Smartphone with a beautiful minimalist design and fast performance. It wins on internal performance and user experience. The Korean giant, LG Electronics strategically designed and manufactured the E960 in partnership with Google. The introduction of this high-end phone is informed by the company’s quest to achieve its primal objective of meeting the needs of its esteemed consumers.

  • Students give testimony of varsity

Applause rented the spacious, air-conditioned hall. Many guests were on their feet, completely mesmerised. But for their physical presence, they would have dismissed most of the transformation stories as too-good-to-be-true. But the tenacity of the students, the innocence on their faces and the first-hand experiences most of them have had were too convincing.

This was the atmosphere last week at the testimonial day of Salem University (SU), Lokoja, Kogi State, organised by Foundation Faith Church Worldwide on campus. One after the other, students mounted the podium to share how much transformational impact the institution has had on them since their admission.

During the testimonies, guests, parents and guardians were surprised over what their wards have become in a short time.Eunice Adako, 300-Level Economics, described the university as a character refinery. She said her uncontrollable anger problem had waned through constant exposure to biblical teachings. “I had a quick and terrible anger that eventually made me lose all my friends before I came here,” she began. “But when I was trained, the anger was destroyed. I have made lots of friends that have enriched my life,” she said.

Eunice also experienced amazing academic transformation much to her surprise. “I surprised even myself. I was an average student throughout secondary school. But I have developed a deep reading habit that has improved my academic performance,” she boasted.

Yvonne Nnanna, 400-Level Peace and Social Science, said: “Before I came to Salem University, I used to be a person of very low self-esteem. I never believed anything good could come out of me. I was always afraid of my future, especially when it had to do with my getting a job after school.”

Through exposure to entrepreneurial studies offered in the institution, Yvonne said she was no longer fascinated by the prospect of seeking paid employment. “I now know that I can achieve anything I want to achieve. I now know that I am a job creator and not a job seeker. I want to work for myself and never for anybody,” she said.

Adah Ojonugwa, 200-Level Geology, said the university had helped him discover new opportunities in his life.
