  • Army neutralises four militia in Benue

    The Army says its troops have neutralised four of the 20 militia they encountered at Teguma village in Guma Local Government Area of Benue on Monday during patrol, while others fled.

    A statement by Brig.-Gen Texas Chukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, issued on Tuesday said items recovered from the militia were four AK 47 rifles; five 7.62mm rounds of ammunition and 28 rounds of 7.62 police special ammunition.

    Chukwu restated that the Nigerian army was determined to rid the country of criminal elements.

  • Army destroy camps abandoned by herdsmen in Benue

    The Nigerian Army said its troops had destroyed camps abandoned by herdsmen militia in Gbajimba, Kaseyo and Adagu communities in Benue.

    According to a statement by its Spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Texas Chukwu, the feat was achieved during a patrol.

    Chukwu said that one motorcycle was recovered from the camp during the operation.

    He also said that troops had cleared some identified armed robbers and kidnappers hideouts in Shaka, Ananum and Donga settlements of Taraba.

    He said during the operation, they recovered one wooden gun with the shape of an AK 47 rifle at Shaka village.

  • Army arrests Four Boko Haram insurgents in Adamawa

    The Nigerian Army on Wednesday said it had arrested an alleged high profile Boko Haram insurgent, Bubayi Isa, in Adamawa.

    Brig.-Gen. Texas Chukwu, the Director, Army Public Relations said in a statement he issued in Maiduguri that Isa was arrested alongside three other suspects.

    Chukwu listed the names of other suspects as Muhammad Buba, Yakubu Abubakar and Yakubu Abdullahi, adding that Isa was number 37 on the list of Boko Haram insurgents published by the army.

    Chukwu explained that Isa was arrested on March 20, following an intelligence report, adding that the suspect hailed from Panama village of Biu Local Government of Borno.

    The army spokesman said that preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects participated in operations, coordinated by the Boko Haram insurgents at various times.

    “Troops of 23 Brigade, Operation Lafiya Dole on March 20, arrested a wanted Boko Haram suspect, Bubayi Isa from Panama village, Gunda District, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State following a tip off.

    “Further investigation reveals that Bubayi is the 37th suspect on the list of Boko Haram terrorist suspects, published by Army Headquarters.

    “Other suspects arrested with him are: Muhammad Buba and Abdullahi Abubakar from the same area while Yakubu Abdullahi hails from Sabon Gari Gado in Bayo Local Government Area of Borno.

    “The suspects were arrested in Kalaa village in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa.

    “The suspects have also confessed of belonging to a Boko Haram terrorists group and their various involvements, following a preliminary investigation by the troops.”

  • Army warns against persistent killings in Adamawa, Benue, Taraba states

    The Nigerian Army on Sunday issued a stern warning against killer herdsmen, farmers, militia groups and bandits operating in Benue, Adamawa and Taraba states to desist forthwith over the senseless killings, and waton destruction of properties across the three states.

    The army said it was working with sister services and other security agencies to identify and arrest all those involved in the on-going killings regardless of their disposition in the society including government functionaries.

    It also warned that field commanders on the ground who failed to take decisive actions against masterminds of the killings would be made to face court martial.

    A statement signed by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen Texas Chukwu warned that “when troops are called out for internal security operations, they are not to joke or persuade anyone”.

    The statement reads: “The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to the continued disturbing, senseless killings and wanton destruction of properties in Adamawa, Benue and  Taraba States. In view of this, we strongly warn the perpetrators of these crimes to desist forthwith.

    “The Nigerian Army in conjunction with sister services and other security agencies are working assiduously to identify and arrest all those involved regardless of their disposition in the society including government functionaries.

    “We would like to unequivocally reiterate that the Army Headquarters warns the arsonists and the killers to stop or face decisive action by troops.  Our Rules of Engagement (ROE) is clear on arson and murder, therefore, no such criminal acts would be allowed in any of the aforementioned states.

    “The public are please reminded that when troops are called out for internal security operations, they are not to joke or persuade anyone.

    “We have warned our commanders on the ground to take decisive  actions or face court martial”.

    Troops arrest ten herdsmen Benue over destruction of Farms

    The Nigerian Army last night said troops of Exercise Ayem Akpatuma have arrested 10 herdsmen for destroying farm lands in Benue state.

    According to a statement endorsed by the Director Army Public Relations, Brig.Gen Texas Chukwu,  the troops also recovered some dangerous weapons from the herdsmen.

    The statement reads: “The effort of the Nigerian  Army to fish out criminals and protect farmlands in Benue State and it environ on the ongoing EXERCISE AYEM AKPATUMA is yielding tremendous result as troops of Sector 1 Sub-Sector A, deployed at Yelwata while on routine patrol arrested 10 herdsmen destroying farmland at Tse-Tigir and Tse-Ndugh villages on Monday 26 February 2018.

    “While in the act of destroying the farmland the herdsmen sighted the aggressive troops and fled into the Bush. The determine troops pursued and arrest them.

    “Items recovered were  5 motorcycle, 2 machetes, some assorted charms and the sum of One Hundred and Twenty Thousand Naira  (N 120,000:00) only. Suspect and items were handed over to the Nigerian Police for further necessary action.

    “The Nigerian Army is determined to fish out criminals and recover weapons use in killing innocent citizens. Therefore the public is please requested to cooperate and support the Army on the ongoing exercise”.

  • Army embarks on firing accuracy test

    THE 3 Armored Division of the Nigerian Army said it will embark on firing test of its officers to ascertain their level of accuracy in weapon firing and handling from tomorrow.

    The two-day exercise is meant to test their officers on their dexterity in handling weapons.

    A statement by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations from the Maxwell Khobe cantonment, Colonel Texas Chukwu, said: “The exercise involves shooting of guns and is meant for soldiers of the 43 Division undergoing basic engineering course for 2014.”

    According to him: “The two-day shooting exercise, which will start from Monday 21st July at the 3 Division Military Shooting Range Miango in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, is part of the course programme for week 6 which is meant to test soldiers ability on weapon handling and accuracy in firing.

    “The exercise will also involve the use of explosives as well as other accessories expected to generate sound.”

    Chukwu added: “Members of the general public in Plateau state especially residents of Miango, Jebu Bassa, Rukuba, Fulani cattle rearers, farmers and other communities within the range to be aware and avoid panic during the exercise.

    “There will also be sporadic or mass movement of personnel vehicles and equipment during the exercise.”
